Trouble at Arbories
From Lancashire Police:
"Police were called at shortly after 4.30pm (on Saturday) to a disturbance at the Arbories Memorial Ground, Well Street, Padiham where a number of people were fighting.
During the fight one man, aged in his 50s, was knocked to the ground and briefly lost consciousness. He has now recovered.
We have launched an investigation, and we are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward."
Padiham FC say that the incident occurred at the end of a local cup final and those involved were not Padiham FC connected.

Seen the video… the lad that was sparked was side swiped by an absolute coward. Plenty of video evidence, question is, will it be sufficient to secure a conviction?

Imagine fighting at an East Lancs league game, absolute weapons.
Was Trawden against Whinney hill followed by Barlick v Feniscowles and Pleasington. Trouble with lads from Blackburn way maybe?

Re: Trouble at Arbories
Team was from Feniscowles a coach load of them they probably never watch football at that level just came over for a day in the boozer.Things like this could have a knock on effect for non league sides having to provide a bit more security at grounds and stop fans having a drink while watching the game.Story I heard is they were threatening the ref during the match and one of their number had just come out of prison and they were celebrating the fact if that's true just shows what kind of people they are.Pleased to say I hear Elmo's allright
Re: Trouble at Arbories
Tbf Feniscowles are one of the better sides at that level and normally seem a decent, well run club. I'd guess the lads causing bother weren't really anything to do them.
Re: Trouble at Arbories
Good job some of Burnley's hooligan element didn't know about it or there could have been some real trouble. Braindeads.

Posh end of Blackburn and crappy end… Blackburn Olympic v Blackburn(Grammar School) Rovers was the first ever recorded occurrence of football hooliganism (1890’s if memory serves - research not there, before anyone is cheeky).

Re: Trouble at Arbories
I was next door at the cricket when word got through of the trouble.
Was supposed to be the bald Centre half for Feniscowles who hit someone in the crowd while playing. Then was involved after the game.
The police were still in the carpark 90 minutes afterwards, when I walked down after cricket had finished.
This story has made the BBC.

I was driving past the Tim bobbin about 6pm on Saturday and a couple of muppets were fighting in the road. BBQ season has begun.

Posh is pushing it but Fenniscowles, Cherry Tree on way out to Houghton Tower is ‘suburbia’ and deffinately a cut above what springs to my mind when I think of Blackburn… to be fair not something I do often.

Re: Trouble at Arbories
You would think Padiham would have to re-think hosting these local league finals next season.
The behaviour from some players and fans has been shocking.

Re: Trouble at Arbories
It's been great watching Padiham this season good crowds turning up sizeable away followings and with no hint of trouble. These games the last couple of weeks as I have stated earlier are not fans of football at this level but more than likely coked up ***** using the game as an excuse for an alternative day out
Re: Trouble at Arbories
It reflects society as it is today though it doesn't it ? No respect,no manners, no boundaries, wherever you host games some people are just hell bent on ruining things for others and know they'll get away with it.
Re: Trouble at Arbories
Can't imagine people running the leagues/referees are too impressed either. If people don't appreciate the chance to play at a decent ground just play the finals on a council pitch in future.
Re: Trouble at Arbories
This is why decent footballers don't want to play Sunday league football. It's just a bunch of racist thugs usually who can't control their own tempers and kick anyone better than them.
Good players have to play on 4g where they get a decent surface and you don't get prats flying into tackles to make up for their ineptitude

Re: Trouble at Arbories
it was worse in 70s when i played because you got away with it some really bad tackles that you never got booked unless you throwing punches then you had to go off , i think the tackle on Casper by Hunter at Leeds i think went unpunished..
Re: Trouble at Arbories
Tbf i think most of the trouble at these games has been caused by people going to watch.Goliath wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 9:58 amThis is why decent footballers don't want to play Sunday league football. Racist thugs? On what do you base that on?Goliath wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 9:58 amThis is why decent footballers don't want to play Sunday league football. It's just a bunch of racist thugs usually who can't control their own tempers and kick anyone better than them.

There is and has always been an element of thuggery in Sunday League football, even when I played back in the 70’s.
As another poster said, this latest unfortunate bout of aggro probably started amongst the two sets of supporters watching it.

When I played Sunday league in the late 70s and early 80's you just knew the thug teams and thug players and just hoped you got through the game still able to work Monday morning or not end up in A and E. It was just systematic of football in those days and went right through to division 1 ie Wimbledon. Hopefully now teams concentrate on technique and skill but since I stopped watching Sunday league decades ago am I just being naive ?

Surely it was supporters causing trouble not the players?
What's rasism got to do with anything?
Re: Trouble at Arbories
From playing in those leagues. Some of the changing room conversation is a disgrace and I wanted no part of it in the end. There's a team called Paak Fc in one of the leagues, you can imagine the comments aimed at them and about them on a weekly basis.Jamesy wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 10:27 amRacist thugs? (I'm aware that racism formed no part in the story I was just adding my own observations about the type of people playing in these leagues)

I could be wrong in Goliath assumption, but he may be alluding to the ethnic backgrounds of the teams playingJamesy wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 10:27 amRacist thugs? On what do you base that on?

Re: Trouble at Arbories
I feel sorry for those who put the hours in running Padiham. They really don't need this. Twice in two weeks isn't a good look, especially for football at this level. Seeing how the police have been called to both of them, authorities at quite a few levels will now be looking into this.
Re: Trouble at Arbories
It's quite naive to think the supporters of these teams aren't usually good friends of the players with similar behaviours..sheep mentality. They will all be having a laugh about it I'm sure.
Re: Trouble at Arbories
Wrong end of the stick there. I was just stating my own observations of Sunday league football in the last 2 or 3 years. I've no idea about the ethnicities of the 2 teams involved.
Re: Trouble at Arbories
I imagine it's slightly better than those days but it's nowhere near acceptable.bfcjg wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 10:34 amWhen I played Sunday league in the late 70s and early 80's you just knew the thug teams and thug players and just hoped you got through the game still able to work Monday morning or not end up in A and E. Re: Trouble at Arbories
I’m fully aware of the ethnic backgrounds of the teams. However, if tensions are running high on the pitch and supporters start fighting on the touch line why are we bringing racism into it?
It was a major fall out with two sets of supporters and players, not good but just that.
Re: Trouble at Arbories
So the teams were of different ethnic backgrounds?Jamesy wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 10:53 amI’m fully aware of the ethnic backgrounds of the teams. However, if tensions are running high on the pitch and supporters start fighting on the touch line why are we bringing racism into it?

Re: Trouble at Arbories
Bizarre that ethnicity has been brought into it.
Re: Trouble at Arbories
Ok fair enough.
It would be good however if we just accepted it was probably another football match where it got heated on the pitch and amongst the crowd and a major brawl broke out.
It isn’t good, and unfortunate for Padiham having two serious incidents in the last week. No place for behaviour like this in amateur football.

Re: Trouble at Arbories
I was watching a game between Williams Bar and Danehouse up at Upper Townley early this year and it was a competive game with good banter until this big lump with one brain cell for Dane house came on as a sub and floored the centre half off the ball and had only been on minutes, obviously he got a red card and was looking for afters with the Williams supporters on his way to an early bath or not.

Re: Trouble at Arbories
I apologise to all for making that assumption, but I wasn’t the one that brought race into it initially.
I was assuming that with it being Daneshouse, who incidentally are a fantastically run club doing lots for the community, people would be aware that it is a predominantly Asian club

Re: Trouble at Arbories
This is embarrassing and unfortunately the fault of Padiham FC as if they want to have finals etc played on their patch then they need to steward matters better and be more professional.
Re: Trouble at Arbories
Easier said than done. If you have got several dozen grown men intent on having a brawl then half a dozen stewards wouldn’t be able to keep order.pushpinpussy wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 12:34 pmThis is embarrassing and unfortunately the fault of Padiham FC as if they want to have finals etc played on their patch then they need to steward matters better and be more professional.

Re: Trouble at Arbories
I understand a few of the comments regarding some of the teams mentioned but the trouble between us (Barlick) and Feniscowles was nothing to do with ethnicity. Every game played against these lot has resulted in some form of bother; I'm not saying Barlick are totally innocent but last week was fuelled by Feniscowles and there absolute thugish behaviour on the pitch which led to the scenes after the game. It does appear that Feniscowles have been kicked out of the EL league off the back of it and the chairman resigned straight after the trouble. The guy who attacked people with a screwdriver (who was already tagged!) will hopefully back behind bars for some time.
Such a shame for Padiham, who do a great thing in offering the facilities for the finals, then to be linked (unfairly) to the trouble. Every time I've visited it appears a very well run and friendly club; always enjoyed my days out there. I hope it doesn't put them off offering again but could understand it if they think it's not worth the bother.

Re: Trouble at Arbories
Trained stewards are their to maintain crowd safety throughout the game and possibly their presence might prevent the disorder happening initially.
