Of course it was his plan to leave this summer. I think a few need to open their eyes. Yes, the Bayern job is a surprise, but he's been mentioned for the Brighton, Brentford and Chelsea jobs in the last week alone. That doesn't happen if a Manager is dead set on staying where he is. It's just like player sales, there are agents in the background sending out smoke signals to the right people, letting them know that their client is interested in a move. VK has played Alan Pace like a fiddle.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 10:19 pmYou have absolutely no idea that kompanys plan was to leave Burnley, just because a nobody Belgium journo said so for abit of clout. Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
I'm reluctant to say too much at the minute because I have no insight into what is going on. My opinion based upon not a lot is that VK would not want to test his brand with another year in the Championship. I don't think he has played Pace. In his situation, I would do the same because I think he must realise that another good season in the Championship would lead to more problems in the PL.
He isn't thick he must see the project is under-capitalised and the gulf between the Championship and the PL.
The £25 million we have just spent on Esteve and Tresor must have been contractual because no one at the club would want to shell out that much money on Tresor after last season. Esteve is a very good player and I didn't think he would stay or the club would buy him because even £6 or £7 million is a lot of money in the Championship.
Either, ALK has got money from somewhere or the club is an absolute shambles. Of course, my opinion is pretty much well worn on here so I think I will let it unfold. No doubt it won't be as bad as I think nor will it be as good as other think...!
But I suspect VK leaving will be somewhat of a relief to everyone. Even Alan Pace, sitting through those last two home games v Forest and Newcastle must have wondered at the shambles unfolding in front of him and what, if any, progress has been made this season.

This certainly ties in with what I've been told by a number of sources (in the UK and abroad) since early/mid-April. There was even talk as far back as last December that certain staff members where feeling this might be VK's last season at the Turf.jlup1980 wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 8:05 amOf course it was his plan to leave this summer. For what it's worth, I wish VK all the very best if he does - as is now likely - get the Bayern job. He gave us one of the greatest seasons I can remember when we won the Championship and his lack of experience/naivety ultimately cost us this season. But I do think what he was trying to do was interesting. And had he stuck it out next season (and poss the season after had we been promoted) we'd see the fruits of that labour.
Pace has a big, big decision to make now. He needs to show the exact same ambition he did when appointing VK.

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
I watched it for the first time tonight, as a relative outsider, and thought that for every positive thing that’s happening (jj, etc) these guys are taking that and reversing it 3000%
I mean I get your affiliation to the club, but other people are not going to be attracted to your doom and gloom. Literally doom and gloom all day long. Potential fans? Nope. Doom and gloom. Potential investors? Nope. Doom and gloom.
If you could come up with ONE positive stance in the next episode, that would be nice

If he'd gone to Huddersfield then it would have been. Taking one of the half dozen biggest jobs in club football isn't.
Even speaking as a Burnley fan I don't think any of the jobs he's been touted for are ones that he should have passed up to stay at Burnley in the Championship. It's not like going to Bolton.

I think it is debatable whether he was naive or lacked experience. He has a personal brand, which has secured him a job at Bayern. And will no doubt guarantee him a job at an elite club in some role or other for the rest of his life.Ightenhill_Claret wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 9:43 amThis certainly ties in with what I've been told by a number of sources (in the UK and abroad) since early/mid-April. I just never really bought into the fact that he would invest in a long term project at Burnley.
If he had ditched his principles and gone 4-5-1 and come fourth from bottom would that be anymore impressive to Bayern than what he did? I doubt it.

We should be in a strong position when appointing his replacement so there's no reason for Pace and co. to not show ambition. The squad is full of young talent. We're not the finished article, but the right manager could make one or two additions and suddenly turn us into a different animal (think of the difference Heaton, Jones and Arfield made to Howe's squad!).Ightenhill_Claret wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 9:43 amThis certainly ties in with what I've been told by a number of sources (in the UK and abroad) since early/mid-April. We should be pointing at the likes of Maatsen and Tella as examples of how we've developed young talent and now Pace can say his manager has been poached by Bayern Munich. That's quite the sales pitch for any young, up and coming manager.

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
He is much maligned by some on here so a controversial view from me but I think we have to have great sympathy for Alan Pace (and for the others like Watt). I agree with the sense they have been played like a fiddle.
In this profession and this precise industry, paying someone huge 7 figure sums annually who then messes up and leaves the organisation in the mire does not guarantee any loyalty or intent to remedy those errors. It’s appalling, immoral and hypocritical, and it wrecks any legacy when that manager is talked about in the future, but we all know it happens regularly.
So I think some sympathy for the owners and support while they try to remedy this mess would be very good for us to show. I just hope they remain ambitious because our only real hope is to maintain our status as the biggest spenders in this league.

I agree with this. Alan must be feeling very let down, probably a deep and painful sense of betrayal. It is impossible not to have some sympathy for him.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 1:08 pmHe is much maligned by some on here so a controversial view from me but I think we have to have great sympathy for Alan Pace (and for the others like Watt). Whatever else we can say about his stewardship of the club, he backed Kompany all the way. Now he and his business partners are left with a large bill to pay and a big mess to sort out.

Come on now, they're big boys, they know how this industry works. They showed they can be ruthless with the decision to sack Dyche. They also should know that if you hire a 'name' manager like Kompany, that's going to attract a lot of attention, a lot of noise, a lot of the time. Did they expect Bayern Munich to come calling? Almost certainly not, but they should have been ever mindful that clubs would be knocking on the door for him and have sufficient contingencies in place for that. If they haven't, that's on them.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 1:08 pmHe is much maligned by some on here so a controversial view from me but I think we have to have great sympathy for Alan Pace (and for the others like Watt). All part of the gig when it comes to club ownership. £15m probably about to hit the bank account soon, too. This is far more of a preferable situation than having the potential decision as to whether to sack him, at considerable cost, if the season got off to a bad start and having to make these same decisions mid way through a league campaign.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 3:18 pmWe’re just saying have some sympathy for them and the stress they must be under, that’s it. Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Pace is a money man with zero experience of running a football club. Same goes for the other directors. I think he was so taken with attracting such a big name as VK that he was in awe him and last season added to the attraction and allowed him total control over who he bought and sold. Once it became clear that it was going wrong, so around October last year, he was too bought into the 'project' and too inexperienced to make a change. And if the contract details are correct, couldn't afford to replace VK, so had little choice other than to continue and hope things improved.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 2:27 pmCome on now, they're big boys, they know how this industry works. The contingency is if anyone wants VK, the price is 20 million. And as others have said, if it was going to happen this is the best time to allow for a proper recruitment process and the new man to bring in his people and ideas.

As for Kompany’s plan. We ignored it last summer when he was being linked with clubs and we initially ignored it this time round until the last few days. He was clearly using us as a stepping stone.

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
I said this on here on April 15 last year at the height of the clubs success and got pelters for it. The context is not the same but I think that not only was it likely he would leave for an elite club but he has an elite mind-set that made him completely unsuitable for managing a team in the PL with a squad of players that are not elite.
And I think he cultivated it whether consciously or otherwise as his brand to good effect. And I also said last year that Pace has an evangelical mind-set prone to seeing VK as the messiah.
I think the Pod Squadders referred to an air of aloof arrogance about the club. I just think there was an inevitability it would end like this....!
"I think elite athletes have a mind-set and a belief in their own ability that the rest of us don't have.
My perspective would be Spurs is a risk why bother...! I think Dyche would look at it the same and make a calculation as to the risks involved.
I see VK as having the potential to be another Pep who jumped from Barca B to Barca first team and was a huge success.
I guess Daniel Levy looks at Arteta as another example of an elite athlete who moved quite quickly to a big club. So, did Zinedine Zidane. VK is possibly one of those.
But my main point was it's a discussion forum and regardless of what we want it's hard to know what is going to happen but it's interesting to consider what is motivating Levy and whether VK has the same mind-set as a Pep or Zidane."

Better to have one man in control than a load of middle managers. I’m sure he consults with all the main players.

Kompany: wins a championship with Burnley, manages one of the biggest clubs in the world.
I’d say going to Burnley is good for your career.

I know I plough a pretty lone furrow but I see accounts with an auditors cashflow warning. A £40 million spend not even included in the last accounts and a further £25 million already spent mostly on a player that couldn't get a game last year.
That's my issue, and I think I'm entitled to it. Just as you are entitled to not having an issue with it.

Woody - " I hope he has a **** house, I hope he gets found out, you know, I hope the things that we've been saying come to fruition, and you know and he gets you know, potted by christmas and he turns into Owen Coyle mark 2 or Frank Lampard, ******** to him"
Bodes - ha ha ha ha
Simon - So I'm going with you haven't quite reached that zen moment then...

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Good episode. Vizeh did well.
Something that struck me going back to the midweek episode was the comment from the German football expert re the spectre of Klopp, Alonso and Nagelsmann hanging over the Bayern job.
This summer wasn’t the right one for the those three to take the job, but if the club get a whiff that next summer might be, Kompany will have to be doing amazingly well for his job not to be in jeopardy.
Fully understand why he’s taking it, but he’s going to be really vulnerable from day one. It’s a no-brainer in lots of ways, but also brave to an extent.

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Yeah agree re Vizeh, was great to have him on and break up the ‘the five miserable bastards’ vibe a little.
I was chatting to Matt (our German football guest from midweek) yesterday and VK is on a bit of a hiding to nothing with that job because he’s essentially the night watchman unless he does incredibly well (which I genuinely hope he does - I wish him no ill).
Clearly has the confidence to go in there and believe he will deliver.

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Think Kompany had to take tis job, he needed to prove himself at a massive club before making the transition into the Man City job which is due to come up in a year or so. He's a shoo in for that job, but as we've discovered has very much brand Kompany so getting a year at a massive club way, way ahead of schedule accelerates his career path by a few years.Ightenhill_Claret wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2024 10:51 amYeah agree re Vizeh, was great to have him on and break up the ‘the five miserable bastards’ vibe a little.

Like Simon tweeted. We're not mad at choosing Bayern over us, we're mad that he's been turd this year and got rewarded.

I though he was trying very hard to not let the accent out!Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2024 9:31 amVizeh spoke very well. But what’s happened to his accent?
Another good episode though. You want the rants and moaning. It's part of being a football fan. We're right to be annoyed by being used as a vanity project. We're also right to believe that the future can be bright if the right appointment is made.

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
And I personally agree with Justin Connelly- being the Burnley manager is the best job in world football! What the hell is VK playing at?
Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Steve Round was mentioned as a possible number 2. Wasn’t he also Moyes number 2 at Everton and United?
Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Woody's rant is the highlight of the podcasts !

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
As ever loved the Pod, but tend to think the Pod Squad was on the deluded end of their dichotomous mood swings. So, NextGen Project? ALK came in backing Dyche: Next Gen?
There is no football project; the project is an investment one. The move from Dyche To Kompany was one of kerb appeal. Big Vince was sexy. Alan Pace likened him to a beautiful woman but when you are in love with a beautiful woman - it's very hard. Everyone wants her, and as it turns out so did Bayern Munich.
But Mr Pace is no lovestruck fool. He spent the money this summer not becuause he backed VK but because he can only get it when the club is in the PL. Mr Pace has changed from commoditising securities to commoditising footballers. It is the concept of the deal that keeps him fully erect in the morning not the charms of VK.
In the end, VK was too sexy for his Burnley shirt: in fact, so sexy it hurt. The club could not match VKs ambition and he proved if nothing else he can't transform £4 million pound players into PL commodities. He didn't really try.
And the point of this rambling nothingness is that you can't understand what is going on the club outside the prism of ALK. VK is the bridesmaid not the bride.

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Enjoyed yesterday's episode- discussing where we think we are on the manager search, interview with Vizeh about his experiences at the US seven a side tournament and talking to JJ Watt, Luca Koleosho etc. Keep 'em coming guys- I need this fix in my weekly routine even if things are a little quiet over the summer!
Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Great show, gets better every week.
Agree on their take on the VK hostage video.
Interesting insight into Ruud Van Nistelrooy.
Agree with not quite getting the vitriol towards Frank.
Thought too much attention was paid to the lap dancer Pardew.
Not into this 7 a side thing, is it a prelude to BFC playing in the USA in future?
