It might be suggested that THB realised that Kompany was a very good championship manager but didn't fancy him for the Premier league. How very incisive that young man was.
THB wanted to join us 100%

VK didn't want him for the PL.
Could be any reason for that.

not my understanding and I never come on here and pretend to be ITK about anything, I know one person who knows one person reasonably high up in the club and that's what he was told a few weeks before the season ended. I obviously can't say it's fact or otherwise though.

I can never understand fans who say we should’ve signed Tella, THB & Maatsen.

I understand the Tella arguments, although he went for a huge fee too, but not Maatsen because he didn’t want to come and certainly not THB at £20m. I hope it comes off for them but it’d have been a huge risk for us.
Instead we signed god knows how many wingers, was it 9 and Kompany still got it wrong.

Not sure I agree with that.

The bones of a strong team is there.

Mcarthy
Walker Pieters, THB, New, New
Aribo, New, S Armstrong
Brooks, New, Edozie

I’m not sure they will make the same mistake as us. I think they will stick with the core of the team and add a few quality additions.
They had better buy 6 wingers and a goalkeeper then.

That’s Summerville & Gnonto gone.

They’ll be a very different team next year.

I've seen this reason/ excuse before for not signing THB and am baffled by it. Can't honestly recall a game where he was exposed because of pace. Neither did he appear any slower/ ponderous than any of his defensive teammates.
Two promotions in two seasons for the same loan player could be some kind of record( I don't know because I don't keep such facts). All I know is he appeared to fit well in our team and ditto with Southampton. Good luck THB.

Yeah I agree tbh, I think we saw 15 million as too big a risk (which is laughable given the other signings). Good luck to him though.

There was a few - Hull at home springs to mind.

It's because VK wants/wanted to play a super high line and squeeze the pitch in the opposition's half - that's why O'Shea and Esteve became the favoured partnership due to their recovery pace.

If we played a bit more sensibly and lowered our defensive line (it was one of the highest in Europe - 89th percentile) then he'd have been fine.

Good lad and I'd have been happy to have signed him but I get the reasoning.
