His career earnings I think are around $150 million dollars plus. His final 2 year contract was $35 million dollars. Its mega money for a sports star. Surely His likely return on an investment with us would pale into insignificance.
He won't want to lose masses, but I just can't see how this could be a purely money driven move for him.
If he was just in for the money there's loads of better investment opportunities than Burnley FC.

Interesting to hear him suggest this is basically a role he's doing to gain experience in running a football club.
I wonder if that's the big indicator of what his real reason is for getting so involved in English football.

Doesn't he say in the video that his long term plan is to own an English football club? I'd originally "guestimated" that JJ Watt may have invested $5 million to become a co-owner of BFC, and possibly Kealia Watt had done the same. But, listening to the video I got the sense that $5 million may be an underestimate - and $5 million isn't really enough money to allow someone to describe themselves as a co-owner. From the way JJ Watt talks about Burnley, from the way he makes comparisons with Green Bay and Wisconsin, I can imagine that Burnley Football Club is a great fit for his long term plans.

He's a Chelsea fan.
He's addressed this 100's of times. He picked them when he first started watching the Premier League because he didn't know any different. Now he's 100% Burnley.
And you know that, too.
Kinda weird how you deliberately ignore that.

Yes I'm surprised it hasn't been picked up on.
I wonder whether he thinks that will be Burnley or another club? I don't think he'd struggle in managing to get a group of investors together to help fund it

That doesn’t fit the negative narrative people seem to want to give regarding JJ Watt everytime he does something regarding Burnley.

That's my point, it doesn't make sense for him to invest a large sum of money into the club in the circumstances many are describing on here.
Therefore I don't believe he has. I think it's exactly as he says, he want to learn the business side of the Sports Industry. The question is whether he would want need to invest £10 million to do that and he clearly doesn't need to because he offers valuable PR and ballast to the clubs credentials as an investment vehicle in the US.
It's Occam razor, he is probably working in return for equity. if he has invested that much then he failed to understand the first law of succeeding in business, which is to know your own worth. He is much bigger than the club in the US.

It might not "make sense" to you, Pete. It's how JJ Watt and Kealia Watt sees it that matters. He makes the comparison between Green Bay, the city and Burnley, the town ("city" and "town" being the difference between American English and England's English).
If I might add, $10 million is not a lot of money to a successful person in the US, whether that success has come as an sportsperson and athlete or in business or any other walk of life. If the club was bought by Alan Pace, ALK and VSP with a £200 million valuation, how much do you think a "co-owner" would have to invest to describe themselves as a "co-owner?"

Whilst I am concerned at home we are owned, the presence of Mr and Mrs Watt can only be commended. They have both been excellent for Burnley FC , the people and the town itself.

He is a rare thing in an American in that he seems to enjoy taking the pee out of himself. That video was cringeworthy but deliberate and funny. He appears to be a diamond, I can see why he got in all those all star teams.

He is currently (and correctly) addressing the shrinking size of burritos in his jjwatt foundation shirt.
If you get a burrito from family restaurants here in New Mexico, they are giant, like a pound of food. For $6. You get one from a chain it’s about 4 ounces for the same price.

Just spotted this very odd comment. No idea why people take offence at everything nowadays because there really is no need.
It is well acknowledged the different between British and American humour, it wasn't a criticism of somewhere I have spent a lot of time, the world would be boring if we were all the same. Brits tend to make the main character a joke, whereas the Americans make the main character tell a joke. That self deprecating style is a rare thing in the US, most people aren't comfortable doing it, which is why I found it so welcome in JJ because that is my style of humour.
Not yours clearly

For someone who's only followed the club a fraction of the time most fans have, he speaks a lot more sense and is far more calmer and logical. You could say that's because he's a bit more removed from it emotionally but people seem to have taken Kompany leaving incredibly personally and I'm not sure why.
