I doubt this would have happened if Kompany remained in charge.

Some will be gutted by this but I’m delighted. Good player and we will need experience around this squad.

Some people are strange. Why would you be gutted at us resigning someone who proved he could still hit around 20 goals a season at this level when first choice.
He might not start every week but he brings us quality and experience.

Pleased to see has chosen to stay on, says everything that he has turned down a two year deal from his mate Duffo to continue his Clarets love affair.

Ok for another season in the Championship, as others say, his experience useful.
Re: ARTICLE: New deal for one of our own Jay Rod
We will need his experience more than ever next season. Does this though suggests the new manager either comes from within or has liased with the club ?

Re: ARTICLE: New deal for one of our own Jay Rod
As it’s been said previously I think it’s great news, good experience to have around a young squad & we know he can get goals in the Champ.
It just depends if the new manager uses him or not obviously

Definitely need his experience around the place now.

He knows what it means to sit on the bench for Burnley.

Re: ARTICLE: New deal for one of our own Jay Rod
He's still too good for the Champ. He was scoring for fun until he got his injury in 22/23.
Doesn't have the legs to get about but footballing ability wise he's better than the Champ. Get people running in beyond him and play it into him and we'll be fine.

Not the most flattering picture CT.
Still delighted he’s signed though.

Re: ARTICLE: New deal for one of our own Jay Rod
The deal was offered while Kompany was still manager so no need for them to have liaised with any potential new manager.

Wants to score against Rovers for us before retiring doesn't he?
As for the deal, no brainer tbh, We are desperately short up top.

As much as I think he’s way past it as a player if it’s on low wages it’s not a bad decision to keep him as a backup.

Re: ARTICLE: New deal for one of our own Jay Rod
Amazing news…
I think most of us realise that experience pro’s like Jay and his presence is very much needed, not only on the pitch but in the changing rooms, and on the training ground.
In my opinion this is great news and priceless experience we need at the club right now.. Especially when it’s going to be a busy summer of movement…
So to have someone like Jay in the camp then he could be our Ashley Barnes type character, especially if we are looking to go back up at the first attempt…
Great start to the summer Mr Pace..

He hasn't wanted to sign a deal with us while both our last two managers were in charge.
I'm sure he can play at this level though.

I'm chuffed!
We need an older head or two. As well as the wealth of experience he offers, he's 'Burnley'.

If Jay, Foster, Weghorst and Obafemi are the answer - I've no idea what the question is.

Pleased with this. Have no doubt he can still be a threat in the Championship and he bleeds claret and blue. Always room for some old heads in amongst the youngsters.

Not sure what I think about this. We’ve got a squad of 40 plus players and how many minutes is he going to get?
Also all those ITK saying he was going to the states…

I'm the same. I'm not sure it's a great move. He's a great lad but we need to trim the squad significantly. Having said that I expect Amdouni, Obafemi and Weghorst to move on permanently this summer so that would only leave us with Foster and Jay. Neither fill me with confidence though. We still need a proper, reliable number 9 in my opinion.helmclaret wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2024 1:40 pmNot sure what I think about this. He was linked with Stoke and Huddersfield. Funnily enough his agency are very busy in both clubs.helmclaret wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2024 1:40 pmNot sure what I think about this. We’ve got a squad of 40 plus players and how many minutes is he going to get?

I noticed on twitter some Huddersfield fans kicking off about their agency and Cartwright bringing in people from there.
They thought Jay Rod was only coming in because of the links.
Not sure on America but heard he had offers there.

Waste of a wage when squad needs trimming. Little bit bizarre.

Nothing against Jay at all but this smells of a signing of financial implications as much as squad strengthening - short term, though not necessarily cheap, deal in case we maybe can't afford others without outgoings ?

During his few appearances in claret and blue last season, Jay was one of the few who appeared to actually care that we were delivering abject performances and looked desperate to do something about it during the scant time he was on the pitch. For me he will still do a more than adequate job at Championship level.

Signing a player when managerless? Concerned that Bellamy may be taking the managers job.

Re: ARTICLE: New deal for one of our own Jay Rod
It’s obvious that Jay is past his best! At his best he got an England call up! Had he not had his injuries I’m convinced he’d have gone to a big club. Poch wanted him at Spurs. He’s a better footballer than all of our other strikers and gives us a bit of experience and composure in the Championship. What’s not to like.
Re: ARTICLE: New deal for one of our own Jay Rod
How many posters on here who like people to think they are 'in the know' have been telling us for a while now that Jay is definitely leaving for pastures new.
Its a kick up the bum for those people who have been giving out duff information.
Not that anyone believes them anyway!

Re: ARTICLE: New deal for one of our own Jay Rod
Some will will disagree but when Jay Rod first played for us I saw him as more of a Delli Alli type player. He had a totally different body shape, as thin as a lath was a bit quicker than he is now but had clever feet and seemed to ghost into the box from deep. I was not surprised when he was called up for England - he really was that good. Of course, he then got injured.
I actually thought he played some of his best football prior to Xmas under VK in a slightly withdrawn role prior to being injured . Last season, he played mainly as an out and out striker when Foster was not playing whereas I think he is better suited to a more deep lying role playing alongside an out and out striker.
Of course, he is a bit of a unit now but I thought he played well last season and still has an eye for goal but he's not a centre forward. I think a lot will depend on whether Amdouni, stays and if the Championship suits him more than the PL but certainly Jay Rod will be a good backup because we know at this level his footballing brain is still there even if the speed isn't...!.
