Re: Rob Burrows and Kevin Campbell
Just read about Rob Burrow. Inevitable but really sad news. Just 41 years of age and succumbing to MND. What a brave man.

Re: Rob Burrows and Kevin Campbell
So tragic re Rob Burrow. What an absolutely horrific disease MND is. His family and Kevin Sinfield have been absolutely incredible this past few years.
Re: Rob Burrows and Kevin Campbell
There was a false statement going around earlier on Kevin Campbell fearing the worst, but it seems that has been quashed

Re: Rob Burrows and Kevin Campbell
What a horrible thing is MND. Burrow battled manfully for over 4 yrs supported the whole way by his family and the Inspirational Kevin Sinfield. Usually sufferers have about 2 yrs from diagnosis - as was the case with my brother in law.
41 is such a shockingly young age to die. Let's hope research finds a treatment or better a cure for MND soon.
RIP Rob Burrow

Re: Rob Burrows and Kevin Campbell
Absolutely gutted about Rob, but I do hope that he can now sleep well. An absolutely tragic illness. Loved going to watch him whilst at university and he did amazing things for his sport. A tremendous player, but an even better person.
Very sad to also read about the illness to Kevin Campbell - life can be cruel. Really hope he pulls through

Alan who I mentioned was diagnosed in April 2018 and made it to January 2020. At least it gave him time to get married and see us in Europe. Awful to see him deteriorate.dougcollins wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2024 6:54 pmWhat a terrible disease. My extremely active friend lasted exactly one year from diagnosis.

I wish medically we could be at the same pace as technology but we are nowhere near. Medical advancements is a snail vs a Ferrari. Hopefully technology (AI) will help a lot over the coming years.dougcollins wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2024 6:54 pmWhat a terrible disease. My extremely active friend lasted exactly one year from diagnosis.

Re: Rob Burrows and Kevin Campbell
My first thoughts are ,what a blessed relief and peace for Rob Burrows and his family and friends, and a release from his suffering .
Awful disease and he fought it very bravely . The work Kev Sinfield put in was nothing less than heroic, that is what you call friendship .
RIP

Very sad to hear the news about Rob. A lovely man and taken far too young. I feel so sorry for his wife and children.
Re: Rob Burrows and Kevin Campbell
Inevitable but absolutely heartbreaking, has raised awareness of MND along with his big mate Kevin Sinfield and how they have not been knighted is a disgrace, R.I.P. Rob and sincere condolences to his family and Kevin Sinfield.
Prayers and thoughts with Kevin Campbell

R.I.P. Rob Burrow,a rugby league legend who sadly passed away today after a long illness of MND..A true legend along with his best buddie Kevin Sinfield who has devoted his life to Rob over the past few years and both have raised millions for the MND cause.

They’ve just sown Kevin Sinfield on TV carrying Rob Burrow at the end of the marathon. Again I’ve tears pouring out.

Re: Rob Burrows and Kevin Campbell
Kevin Sinfield is that friend that everyone needs. Just wonderful and again, a simply sensational player that has done so much for the game and then for charity. I very much doubt that he’ll ever stop working for Rob, in his name.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2024 8:28 pmThey’ve just sown Kevin Sinfield on TV carrying Rob Burrow at the end of the marathon. Re: Rob Burrows and Kevin Campbell
I just watched the clip from BBC SPOTY 2022 when Burrow was given the Helen Rollason Award, and Kevin Sinfield was then presented with a special award by the son of Doddy Weir who also died for MND.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2024 8:28 pmThey’ve just sown Kevin Sinfield on TV carrying Rob Burrow at the end of the marathon. Re: Rob Burrows and Kevin Campbell
Inevitable news but that doesn't take away any of the sadness. Both him and his mate Kevin Sinfield tackled his MND in the same way they tackled on the RL pitch. 100% effort and no quarter given. They have been absolutely inspirational.
MND is a truly awful disease and I witnessed a family friend suffer for 2 years until he lost his battle. It is the same person who Tony knew. If you followed the Clarets from the 70s onwards, you would have seen Beeky. Probably heard him first though!
Sadly MND seems to affect sporting people disproportionately, with our ex skipper John Pender struck down. The sooner a cure for this is found the better.
RIP Rob Burrow, a true warrior to the end.

So true Herts,Beeky was a great lad who I was pals with from our youth days. A great lad who I had many a great time and laughs with. Especially our trainspotting jaunts out.Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2024 9:05 pmInevitable news but that doesn't take away any of the sadness. I was just making a salad for my lunch tomorrow when the opening piece on ITV News was about the passing of Rob Burrow. I am blaming the onions I was chopping for the tears that rolled down my cheek.....

Re: Rob Burrows and Kevin Campbell
very sad news to hear about Rob just wish there was a cure for this awful disease as it effected my family member a while ago ...
Re: Rob Burrows and Kevin Campbell
Just to restate what I posted on the John Pender thread. We are well aware of the increased risk of developing MND at an early age in contact sports, but we are not sure why, and we know that this group but particularly footballers suffer disproportionately from dementia almost certainly from CTE and not Alzheimer's. The more money put into research the sooner an explanation why MND occurs-a voluntary levy of 0.5% salary, transfer fee or some such system would raise a lot for research and to help victims and their families of two of the most awful untreatable diseases so prevalent in the sporting world.

What a fantastic programme it was.. The world has lost a superman R.I.P. Rob.
Re: Rob Burrows and Kevin Campbell
Just tried to watch that documentary about Rob on catch up. Twenty minutes in I have had to pause it. Can’t stop the tears rolling down my face.
What a man. His family are lovely and his friends too. Held him in such high esteem and rightfully so.
Thinking about Len Johnrose too at this sad time, because his family would have gone through similar emotions.
RIP Superman Rob and Len (Lenny) who had the heart of a lion.
