Dr Michael Mosley
The science/health TV presenter has gone missing whilst on holiday on a
Greek island on Wednesday, after leaving his wife on the beach to go for a walk.
Hope it all ends well - the authorities are doing eveything they can to find him.

Re: Dr Michael Mosley
He’s on the island of Simi, Which I went to as a child. It’s very close to Rhodes But by contrast, a very small island and you would thought that he might have been found. It’s concerning.
Re: Dr Michael Mosley
It concerns me that he didn’t take his phone with him.

Re: Dr Michael Mosley
There are a subset of people who actually enjoy leaving our phones at home when we go out. I love leaving mine behind if I'm walking the dog but it's safer to take it with me if I'm going hiking.Carlos the Great wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 12:37 pmYes bizarrely never took his phone ..not sure if he had any mental issues but 40 degrees not been seen .. it doesn’t sound good really ..
Anyway, hopefully there's some good news at the end of this story but not looking hopeful.

Re: Dr Michael Mosley
I was on Symi 3 weeks ago and did the exact walk he is reported to have been on when he went missing. Basically it’s a climb up some steps from a beach onto a headland then a clearly defined path across the headland and then gently along the shore for maybe 3/4 of a mile into Pedi , a small settlement at the head of the bay. After that it’s basically tarmac road up into the main village. For the life of me I can’t imagine how he has got into trouble and, even if he has, why they cannot find him .
As you walk along the shore there are a couple of places where it’s possible to access the sea for a dip and the thought occurs he must have drowned. However it’s an enclosed bay and the sea is very benign there so this too is hard to imagine.
Very mysterious and worrying.

Not good at all I’m afraid and leaving without a phone reads a bit like Capt Oaks

Re: Dr Michael Mosley
He must receive a lot of texts / phone calls when on holiday with the work he does. Leaving it behind to go for what sounds like a shortish stroll doesn't seem too absurd to me.

most people would take it but turn it off (or use airplane mode) if they didn't want interruptionsdannyonclarets wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 3:49 pmHe must receive a lot of texts / phone calls when on holiday with the work he does. I can't say what most people would do, but if it was stressing me out and I wanted to go for a walk to chill out I would leave it behind.

There is now cctv, that appears to be him, that shows him in the village of Pedi after completing the walk.

I agree it’s much nicer without a phone .. I’d prefer not have a phkne at all .. but this situation highlights how essential it is have your phkne at all times .. especially when abroadRowls wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 12:43 pmThere are a subset of people who actually enjoy leaving our phones at home when we go out. Re: Dr Michael Mosley
Which makes it even more bizarre assuming it is him, as the village appears to be even less dangerous than the walk. This reminds me a bit of the lady who went missing last year whilst walking her dog and they found her phone on the bench. In the sense that there appears to be few places where he could possibly have vanished.jordsclarets wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 4:57 pmThere is now cctv, that appears to be him, that shows him in the village of Pedi after completing the walk.
Re: Dr Michael Mosley
This is not looking good, such an extensive search would have found him by now.
Some people who commit suicide plan it like they're planning their next meal,no emotion,no fuss and they always look ok before they do it.Im not saying that this is what has happened,I don't know and I don't know anything about him,but I know of 2 people that have done this but they wanted to be found.I can't get my head around this concept, but if Dr Moseley doesn't want to be found,we cannot rule out this possibility.

Re: Dr Michael Mosley
I am sure that going for a long walk/hike in remote locations, carrying an umbrella to shield you from searing heat (over 40 degrees), would not be recommended by anyone let alone a TV doctor.
All very strange and I hope they find him soon.

Hard to work out if this was foul play of just a tragic accident. it was very hot and quite rocky by the looks of it. Must be awful for his family. You don’t go on holiday expecting to die.

Re: Dr Michael Mosley
It is very sad. He was probably suffering from heat exhaustion/dehydration when he took the wrong turn.
His poor wife must have been going through hell for the past few days. RIP Michael.

Re: Dr Michael Mosley
The worst possible outcome. Not surprised he took a wrong turn as I’ve only had severe sunstroke once and it is incredibly disorientating; Natasha thought I had had a stroke because she found me as helpless as a baby to the point I could not even remember her name let alone where I was.
My thoughts are with his family and friends. Just demonstrates you never know when it is the last time you are going to see a loved one. How sad.

Re: Dr Michael Mosley
So very very sad. My heart goes out to his wife and family.
Heatstroke as previously mentioned, renders you completely disoriented, dizzy and a total unawareness of your predicament. Happened to me in the mountains in Crete but was with a walking group so very very lucky.
Taught me never to underestimate the hot weather and to keep well hydrated.
