I was amazed. When managers arrive from Europe I’ve often never heard of them but Walter I have because of HSV who didn’t even make the top three this season. I think they sacked Walter around February.

The majority of fans on this board don’t go to matches - the fans who attend games would fully get behind any manager. You’re forgetting that the most vociferous people on here don’t attend games.

I go to matches and believe Lampard would be relative disaster but would vocally totally support him at the start of next season.

However a point already made by many on here, is because the majority of fans don’t want him and that fans on the Turf backed Kompany all the way last season , if after 10 games to half the matches things weren’t going well I would expect fans patience would wear thin and would vocally turn against him and Pace for appointing a name.

The only reaction to a Kompany last season came at Palace. I was amazed how tolerant the fans were towards him in general and was amazed at the show of support at Spurs with relegation confirmed.

Whether supporters want or don’t want the new manager, I’m certain he will be supported. He will as far as I’m concerned. I’d had enough of Kompany and looking forward to the change even if it’s someone I wouldn’t have chosen.

I'll give any new manager a chance, it's what Burnley's success has been built on these last few years, if it is Lampard, he as all managers start with a totally clean Claret sheet, any other attitude towards the new guy is rude, high handed and not as a fanbase we are known for.

I will be disappointed to say the least if Lampard gets the job. However he will get my support and as long as there are signs of us becoming a decent side (improving) id keep backing him.

Is that right, that the majority of fans on this board, don’t go to matches? I’ve certainly seen a few, who for various reasons, don’t go to games, or only get to a few, but a majority?

Either way, whoever it is, they have to be supported, through thick and thin and most importantly, given time (though that must be somewhat limited given the apparent importance of promotion, to the club).

I’ve said it before but our prolonged successful times always come when it feels like the board, manager, players and fans are all aligned. It was such a feeling, developed under Dyche, that really helped to push us on.

Cracks quickly show when that alignment begins to disappear.

Well about the only three managers I was unhappy we appointed since the 1980s were Mullen Laws and Dyche-yes got a lot wrong I know.

Most of the fans who read this board are older and although many do not go to games for a variety of reasons have been around this loop many times… and have experienced managers before who come with big reputations that “little old Burnley” should be grateful for, many could do a top ten. At one and two I can guess now would be:

Media lovee and giant of the game John Bond.
Manchester United legend and serial winner Martin Buchan.

And people dare call our fans out for being wary.

Looking at what's available and the (very limited) names being bandied about or linked, I honestly think I'd just go with Bellamy (knows the club now and in particular the current squad and what needs leaving and what needs sorting) and Jackson who has got a lot of experience these days and didn't do at all badly in his short tenure after Dyche was jettisoned. Initially I never thought I'd be saying this, but currently that's how I feel.

As with players some managers work out and some don’t. Hard to predict in advance and easy to be wise in hindsight. Happy to stick with Bellamy and Jackson myself but who knows how it will go.

Looking at what's available and the (very limited) names being bandied about or linked, I honestly think I'd just go with Bellamy (knows the club now and in particular the current squad and what needs leaving and what needs sorting) and Jackson who has got a lot of experience these days and didn't do at all badly in his short tenure after Dyche was jettisoned. Initially I never thought I'd be saying this, but currently that's how I feel.

I'd rather go with experience, I don't think we're in a position to take a gamble on someone who has never done it before, and has little pulling power to bring players in.

Took them down in 1999. Also managed Preston for a short time and didn’t win a game. Sacked very quickly. He was one of Pep’s assistants at City but retired three years ago. He’s 75 now.

Kidd did a fantastic job for Burnley at Deadwood. Mismanaged the team and became universally hated by the locals for always referring to them as “the crowd” and never as supporters of fans.

That's quite the most silly article I think I've ever read...! I'm quite stunned that anyone capable of such drivel is allowed to write in a national newspaper.

I think any fair minded person would have reservations about Lampard and Parker given their recent records. And I'm not sure anyone really knows what the fanbase thinks anyway.

Given the current situation the club is in we need a sure fire winner and in reality most managers come with a history of some wins and some losses. I think the fanbase is reflecting the reality that a poor decision would leave the club in a big mess.

I suspect the attitudes towards Lampard and Parker are just a reflection of that.

Serious question. If there are 5 candidates and none of them really impress what does Pace do, stick with Bellamy for now and look at a change nearer Christmas if we are not doing well. That would be my preferred choice.
