Subway from Burnley Bus Station
It’s now closed on a permanent basis. There are currently temporary pedestrian lights for crossing Centenary Way.
I was thinking that it would at least mean no one would have to clean the subway before realising the filthy hole hasn’t been cleaned in years.

Re: Subway from Burnley Bus Station
With all the works that have been going on the past season, we ended up using the subway for the first time in what could be 20 years after 1 game. I am glad it is now not an option.

Re: Subway from Burnley Bus Station
I’ve used it regularly for years and it’s an absolute disgrace. I’ve a doctors appointment this morning and that was the route only to see it permanently closed since yesterday. Just walked up Yorkshire Street and it’s still a mess.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2024 9:18 amWith all the works that have been going on the past season, we ended up using the subway for the first time in what could be 20 years after 1 game. Re: Subway from Burnley Bus Station
only a little longer to wait now until its all finished, looks like it will be a massive improvement once its done. looking forward to seeing the finished article.
little bit of pain for hopefully many years of improvement

Re: Subway from Burnley Bus Station
It’s been needed but it’s been allowed to get into a shocking state over many years.
With the roundabout gone there is a hell of a lot of pavement but I think it will look so much better with the four planting areas with the small trees already in.

As I won’t be visiting Burnley until the start of the new season, is there any chance the works will be completed by then?

Used to say we've all been around that old roundabout
Will miss the old underpass, not for the state of it, but used it for decades.

Burnley was quite a violent place at the time the Rose Room was in its pomp. Had to have your wits about you to avoid unsolicited aggro on your way home.ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2024 9:51 amGot beaten up in there once, after leaving the Rose Room.

Re: Subway from Burnley Bus Station
Thanks guys, so it looks like this project will be completed almost on schedule. It does seem like it’s been going on forever though.
I’ve only been slightly impacted by it on match days. You guys have probably had it on a daily basis and the knock on effect on traffic around the town centre.
Hopefully we will have appointed a new manager before its completion!

Re: Subway from Burnley Bus Station
Subways are very safe means of crossing the road and don't hold up any traffic
Re: Subway from Burnley Bus Station
Ah yes that subway was notorious for it's safety.basil6345789 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2024 1:58 pmSubways are very safe means of crossing the road and don't hold up any traffic

That subway at Wolves certainly wasn’t safe. Well not if the locals knew you were away fans.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2024 2:17 pmI stopped thinking subways were safe after going to Wolves 1 year
It’s quite good now. There is a bloke who sells local butchers pork scratchings on matchdays just at the stadium end of the subway.
Best scratchings you will taste in a long while. “Bostin”.

For anyone who has never been through the subway - here it is
Re: Subway from Burnley Bus Station
Several times probably Tony. And you hopefully came out at each end of it before and after the matches with your facial features intact? It was a hairy experience though in the bad old days. Not for the faint hearted.

I have walked through that subway thousands of times and never seen any bother.
I also walked through the Wolves subway on a Friday night game back in 95ish and despite most Wolves fans in the ground looking like meatheads, it was peaceful back to the coach.

Fair enough, should have left it then. Looks pretty welcoming on the picture.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2024 3:58 pmI have walked through that subway thousands of times and never seen any bother.

Re: Subway from Burnley Bus Station
Excuse my ignorance but could someone tell me the exact location and which two roads the subway connected? Even though I was born and raised in Burnley but left some fifty years ago, I have no recollection of the subwayClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2024 3:23 pmFor anyone who has never been through the subway - here it is

One thing missing from the picture though Tony. The bloke in there with his cans of Tennants Super Strength, asking for change when you walked past him. Wonder where he’s gonna go now?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2024 3:23 pmFor anyone who has never been through the subway - here it is

Re: Subway from Burnley Bus Station
Definitely either 1973 or 1974 when it opened. I think that might be when it was last cleaned.

Re: Subway from Burnley Bus Station
That's because they use soft rolls which squelch quite easily under the tyres... You don't get that annoying bump though the suspension that driving over pedestrians causes

Good riddance to the dirty, grotty subway.
They should build a shiny new modern subway. Out of local stone...

Well, I got beaten up 76 or 77, and it had only been open a couple of years, so we're talking circa 75.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2024 4:39 pmTo save me looking it up, when was the subway first opened?
