A mate of mine who knows that I'm a fan of Hergé/Tintin sent me this image. He says it's Belgium's second kit for the Euros. If so, then what a great idea. Wonder what the English could do in a similar vein? Doesn't quite work with Sherlock Holmes!

Don't know if it's been mentioned earlier in the thread but where's all the hype ? There does not seem to be much advertising and none of those TV programs featuring by gone tournaments and certainly no bunting and crappy car flags

So soon after the season. Also there’s nowt to really get excited about tbh. There’s not any players or teams to catch the imagination these days.

I’m just not “buzzing” for it.
Why??
Feels like our season has only just finished.
I can also see the “superstars” play live each and every week, twice some weeks. Something that made these tournaments so exciting in seasons past is having access to seeing the greatest players live.
There’s also not a team to really relish watching. No team of 5/6 superstars coming together and seeing how that pans out.
Then there’s expanding it. Just more dross teams to bulk the competition out. Without adding any quality.

What we really need to see is the best player in La Liga joining up with the best player in the Bundesliga playing alongside Phil Foden, Declan Rice and Saka.

With the exception of Qatar don't the Euros and the World Cup tournaments always start when our season finishes?

I quite enjoy watching tournament football - I go into it pretty much as a neutral and just enjoy the games, makes it much more enjoyable.
Re: Euro 2024
I tend to agree with this really. I can live them expanding the World cup but 24 teams at the Euros is way too many, 16 was the perfect number.Dyched wrote: ↑Wed Jun 12, 2024 7:15 pmWhere did I say this?!?

Love the Euro probably more than the WC
De Jong and Koopmeiners out
Lewandowski misses at least first game and no Milik.

I always enjoy international football, even if I don't always enjoy the match itself.
Really looking forward to Spain/Croatia on Saturday, hope Navas and Modric both get on. Last of an era clash, especially with Ronaldo and Pepe likely playing their last tournament.
Mind you I thought this for all four since the 2018 WC, didn't expect any to make Euro 2020+1 but here we are. Modric will probably make North America.

International football is total shite and should be binned off completely apart from the main summer tournaments which are well good. World Cup is obvs the king, Euros is a bit UEFA Cup in comparison but still good. Nice to win but not the main event. That nations league thing is beyond shite.

Re: Euro 2024
How could you have the "main Summer tournaments" without all the qualifying matches to decide who gets to play in them? I suppose you could do without qualifying and have an 80 team tournament, but that might take a while! You also need the friendlies to help the Managers pick their actual teams.quoonbeatz wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2024 1:13 pmInternational football is total shite and should be binned off completely apart from the main summer tournaments which are well good. Got the Les Bleus staying here in Bad Lippspringe. Using SC Paderborn's facilities 10 mins away. Open training session later today. Portugal down the road in Harsewinkel (Kreis Gütersloh) too.

Qualifying is part of the tournament. Friendlies are a waste of everyone's time, even the players don't give a **** about them.CaptainKirk wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2024 2:38 pmHow could you have the "main Summer tournaments" without all the qualifying matches to decide who gets to play in them? Re: Euro 2024
Hi guys, I read in The Times yesterday about the payment to clubs for their players being at the Euros. Apparently, payments are bigger than they have been for earlier international tournaments.
How many players contracted to Burnley FC are in Euro 2024 squads. Has anyone worked out how much BFC might receive from UEFA based players under contract being at Euro 2024? I'd assume UEFA pay the club the player is under contract with, so, for example, a player such as Wout Weghorst who was out on loan last season the money is paid to the parent club.
Of course, players may be on a bonus with their club (or may not be) and might receive a percentage of any UEFA fee paid.
PS: Is this the right thread to ask this question?

We drew for each other: I picked England for one bloke and he then drew Georgia for me! Didn't even realise they were in it.

hoping BBC coverage is better than ITV, same bland pundits rotating from every tv and radio outlet.

Oh, with lorraine kelly being interviewed just to add to the dross.
ITV is like a ryan air flight to benidorm.

They both have pros and cons. I like Lineker and Shearer but can sometimes prefer the ITV commentary. I can't be doing with the ITV adverts though. Neither are perfect.Wile E Coyote wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2024 7:43 pmhoping BBC coverage is better than ITV, same bland pundits rotating from every tv and radio outlet.
