On Angus Gunn - he played for England up to under 21level but then declared for Scotland in March last year. He’s now played eleven times for them.

I thought he was very much culpable in Norwich’s play off hammering at Leeds last month. He’s Norwich’s first choice goalkeeper.

I watched most of this game (frankly I got bored by Germany's dominance). Germany impressed for so early in the tournament. They looked sharp, tidy, effective and, particularly in the first half, their shooting was lethal. I don't blame Gunn for the first goal - it was struck so hard he did well to get down to it - and he made an excellent save from the no penalty/freekick when the shot came through a ruck of players.

Scotland by contrast were ponderous and clearly a couple of levels lower in ability.

What pleased me was the general attitude of the players - no diving or feigning injury (except Porteous before he was rightly sent off). The referee and VAR were top notch.

I too was in France for the 2016 Euros....I saw England fans wearing Irish shirts because they were so embarrassed to be English !.....also witnessed a Leeds fan wearing a Burnley Shirt ??

Lads you are getting mixed up here .
Just to put it all right for you as there are many 2nd and 3rd generation Irish with very strong English accents , they don't class each of them as English they are 100% Irish simple as that .

Now even thou i was born in Ireland i have this massive Burnley accent which i have never been able to shake and trust me i am Irish .

Germany were excellent. Scotland not at the races. Set up wrongly until 2nd half, 10 man adjustment.

Players did not change in first half and suffered the consequences. Manager should take responsibility, for getting it ao wrong. Players for not using their experience and adjusting.

Disaster result. Not actually going to affect anything. Scotland, Switzerland and Hungary. 2 from 3.

There was plenty of diving on show as usual.

I'm fully aware that England under Mr Southgate may well give us a similarly disappointing performance during these Championships, but until then ...

In world terms, Scotland are a tiny nation,they are fortunate that their proximity to England allows some of their players to get better development opportunities than if Scotland was a country stuck in the North Sea. Without our assistance Scotland would be treated like Finland etc, total no hopers but because some people see them as almost like England it seems to give them a status they don't deserve and cannot live up to. Last nights result was to be expected.
We also have a bigger reputation in our minds than.our performances over the decades justifies, because we invented the game, have a jingoistic press,won it as a host nation and currently pay obscene wages.

Scotland provided the 1st British European Champions, and four of the greatest British Managers, Matt Busby, Jock Stein, Bill Shankly and Alex Fergusson ...

I never had a beef with the jocks and would root for them in World Cups etc. But I changed my mind after living there for 7 years. Yesterday's result really brightened up my whole weekend.

Similar story with me, would always root for them but their " anti Englishness " has worn me down over the years, now I just get a good laugh when they lose .. Love the way you incorporated " beef " into a post mentioning both Uruguay and Scotland, by the way !

Younger posters might not know that the FIFA used the 1950 Home Nations Tournament as a qualifier for the 1950 World Cup. Scotland finished 2nd to England but arrogantly refused to go, because they " weren't Champions ". Their Captain, George Young pleaded with the SFA Chairman to change his mind to no avail. India and Turkey also qualified but withdrew due to " Financial constraints ". Portugal, Republic of Ireland and France were invited to fill the gaps, but none of them took up the offer ... so the Tournament went ahead with just 13/16 Countries !!
