Quite a contradiction there. Do you think playing TAA is the safe and defensive option?
No, I think playing our best players, in the best form, in their preferred position is the way forward.

Novel, maybe, but I believe in it.

Wharton and Mainoo the form players at the end of the season so fully makes sense to drop them for an out of position Trent, who is comedic defensively.

Does allow Safegate to drop to a back 5 once we’re one up though.

We’ll see, anyway.
Probably less safe with TAA than others. He’s in there because of his forward play.

In an ideal world that would be the case. But I don’t think football players necessarily have to be pigeon-holed into a single position - it’s quite a simplistic view of the game. Did you not see Burnley’s right backs moving into midfield during our Championship winning season?

Can’t say I’m particularly convinced with TAA in midfield, but it’s clear that he offers a range of passing and incisiveness that is otherwise missing from our midfield.

Absolutely saw them starting at Right back and moving into midfield to stretch the opposition, then returning to right back when needed defensively. I.e. Right back, playing right back.

Conversely I saw what happened in the PL, when we played Vitinho on the wing, and how wrong that went.

At the end of the day, I don’t think it’ll matter against the opposition tonight, but just as the Spanglish played their 16 year old because he was the best man for the job, we should be playing Mainoo or Wharton in our lineup and not crowbarring Trent in for bants.

Edit - obviously he’ll now have a storming game tonight 😂

Yes, but they played in the middle of the pitch didn’t they. So football players aren’t consigned to one role and one area of the pitch, it’s just too simplistic a view on a game that is now quite complex.

And TAA isn’t in the side for bants is he. I’ve given a couple of things he offers that Mainoo or Wharton don’t, and the game against Iceland showed we’re lacking in ideas when it comes to facing up against a side with a deep line and 11 men behind the ball.

Anyway, let’s see how it plays out. Could go either way, but I suppose that contradicts the ‘Safegate’ nickname.

Not normal how good Bellingham is. Plays like it's his fourth Euros. England's youngest ever captain? Bobby Moore was twenty-two.

Central defence is where we look bad, not left back. I don't think a single player has took us on at left back.

Bellingham, Saka, Walker and Rice all very good.
Foden is a luxury and Trippier not too good, which is why we only threaten down the right.
