What I would say at this stage is that I'm glad the board are taking their time over this appointment. If you have to lose a manager, then right at the end of the previous season isn't a bad time to do it. So many clubs either panic mid-way through the season or are left in the lurch, resulting in them having to make hasty decisions with who is available at the time. I am optimistic that we will make a good appointment having weighed up all the options.
You should always be ready for this eventuality and have targets in place ready to move. We shouldn’t be taking time, we should have been prepared.

A true master stroke from Dyche. Similar to putting long balls over opposing defenders heads (particularly fullbacks) and asking us to play in their half…

For what it’s worth I think Dyche is exceptional in his defensive coaching and it’s not as easy to get a side well drilled for 90+ minutes each week to shut teams out as some posters have suggested, but he’s not as talented in giving his team the freedom to be creative. The football under Kompany last year (when the players got to grips with it) was phenomenal and stuff only Dyche can dream of.

He’s moved from 8/1 to 4/1 on Sky Bet since I posted. I know we shouldn’t be taking too much notice but I’m beginning to suspect that he might be under serious consideration now.

You prefer the football that sees us win two out of nineteen league games with an astonishing 43 goals conceded do you? You might like that, I don't and I was delighted when the manager left. Last season was soul destroying and a manager who never one accepted any responsibility for it.

Any Premier League manager could get their team playing like Kompany had us play last season. And it would result in relegation for 14 teams out of the 20, which is why they don't bother. Aye, Dyche could only dream of it.

I believe he is and that on his way out of the club, VK told the owners they should look no further than Bellamy. My understanding is that he will be given the job with a 6 month grace period to see how he does. With us seemingly having found an assistant and no mention whatsoever of any imminent appointment of a manager, this to me seems the most likely outcome.

So you don’t believe the Telegraaf article that states RVN is close to agreeing a deal?

I would love Bellamy to stay on but I question whether he's manager material. That's unfair of me I know, he might be brilliant. A pure hunch.

If this is true then it’s a complete joke to be honest.

1) why listen to what Kompany has to say at all
2) where the heck in football do we see a ‘6 month grace period’, let alone when there is expectation of promotion

I never like those kind of agreements to be honest. Either back him, or don't. The reality is, any manager doing horribly after 6 months this year will get the chop as we'll try to get a bounce for a playoff run. If you think he's the man, give him a proper contract and set him up for success. Or get someone else.

I believe he is not and that on his way out of the club, VK told the owners they should look no further than Bellamy, so they completely ignored that advice. My understanding is that he will not be given the job and we will appoint an actual manager with experience. With us seemingly having found an assistant and many mentions of ann imminent appointment of a manager, this to me seems the most likely outcome.

You cannot have grace periods when your debt is sustained by Premier League TV income (predominantly). Whoever the manager is needs to deliver promotion - this isn’t a time for experiments.

I have nothing against Bellamy but it would be underwhelming in the extreme and you’d think he’d have crawled to Munich after Kompany if he had been given the option to do so. I always think it’s good to get new ideas/concepts into the side after such a terrible season in any case. The club needs another evolution and a fresh pair of eyes to assess a squad which desperately lacks leadership and experience to go with its youthful vigour. We are naive and weak in some areas and my hope was that someone (like RVN - who I read enjoyed managing youth alongside experience) would come in and give things a shake up like Kompany did back in 2022.

On the basis that the Kompany/Bellamy relationship had broken down completely I’d suggest, even if asked, he’d have said no such thing.

With all the reports that Bellamy was leaving if kompany stayed, what sense would it make for kompany to recommend Bellamy for the job?

Wasn’t Scott Parker 6/1 yesterday and now 18/1, Bellamy 25/1 at some point this week and now down to 5/1

Sky bet having a field day with these odds, randomly chucked rydstrom in at 7/1 from nowhere and he’s now 25/1

Yeah the betting market is so small that even just a few quid on a candidate will lift them up into favourite territory.

I kept getting told that Bellamy was under serious consideration although not sure if it was a VK recommendation or not.

Bellamy of course had already handed in his notice prior to the final game of the season and was set to leave after his relationship with VK soured (various rumours as to why).

Get the impression from speaking to people that Bellamy is very well liked by the squad and was the more influential of him and VK on the players last season and certainly post-Christmas.

Henriken is now following Rydström out of the reckoning. It was fun for an afternoon though. Corberan now heading the same way by the looks of it.

Saw this interesting article today.
if reports are true that the new assistant is Henrik Jensen ..he was Bo Hendrickson's assistant at one time. Hendrickson . took over Mainz in Bundesliga in February when the side were in the relegation zone, but a fine run of form meant they climbed the table and actually ended up finishing 13th, clear of the bottom three.

So, Henriksen’s stock is high at the moment, and he has previously worked for Midjtylland and Zurich among other clubs, so he has plenty of experience.

And, with reports claiming that Henrik Jensen, his former assistant, is set for a coaching role with Burnley, there's increased speculation that the pair could reunite at Turf Moor.

Exactly sky bet adding names and changing odds by reports on social media, sure if enough people on social media said a random name had been interviewed the would be added.

Interestingly igor Tudor never got added by the bookies

You sure about that? Because I can remember that most people on this board were surprised and said it's "Nixon talking ******** again". I guess we all also knew Bellamy is considered? You also probably think that anyone with "a bit of an idea about football" would have known that we are signing Drinkwater, Twine, Ramsey, Obafemi, Cornet and Collins. Those are just some of the stories he broke that I personally remember.

But I will stop posting about Nixon because I've clearly touched the nerve. I guess it's easier to believe some Swedish site no one has ever heard of or some random UTC member saying "he heard" or "has been told" something.

The Telegraaf seems the most reliable source. It's basically the Dutch version of The Telegraph and they're usually pretty accurate with transfer news.

Bookies odds are a mathematical risk model, based purely on how many people are betting on those candidates and the size of the stakes.

It means they always win, and don't need to know anything about a market.

"Outwit" is a relative thing.

One can "outwit" a dog by pretending to throw a stick.

A team that plays as suicidally at the back as we did last season is primed to be "outwitted" by some basic charging down.

Really want it to be RVN and would happily burn the twenty quid I’ve wasted on my Bo Henriksen bet if that turns out to be the case, but still can’t work out how it fits with the Henrik Jensen story so I’m cautious.

Excited today for the first time in this whole manager hunt. Hope to goodness Sacha / Telegraaf reports are on the money.

If we end up with Bruce now!!!

Amazing how many people don’t understand that on here. We’ve had hundreds of posts on the betting odds and they’re totally irrelevant as to the reality of who our next manager will be. Obviously when a new manager is close there will be a leak and the bookies will twig and close their book, until then the odds are completely meaningless.

You should always be ready for this eventuality and have targets in place ready to move. We shouldn’t be taking time, we should have been prepared.
I suppose that regardless of how prepared we are, we still have to actually hold the interviews and that can itself change our thinking if someone doesn't interview particularly well or rules themself out of the running in the process etc. Perhaps someone who we'd never considered declares their interest and that can then change things up again. I'd imagine we already had some managers in mind even when Kompany was with us but if that's not the case then I agree that we need to be more prepared than that.

Whoever gets the job have a lot of wheeling and dealing to do and hopefully get a team good enough to get back up at first time of asking because some of them player's who played in the Championship last time were hung out to dry ....

Phenomenal?

I think you have gone way over the top with this adjective. There was no phenomenal football served up last season under Kompany.
I and a thousand or so others were at Stamford Bridge for our voted for best away day of the season. The football that day was exciting and the players were all up for the challenge. No way was it phenomenal.

Conflicting reports about how close a deal is, but two separate reports claiming that RVN is part of the conversation.

The question now isn't so much about whether he's in the running, but who has something to gain from sharing it with the media and why.

Talk sport now reporting he's a contender but that a deal isn't close. Someone is wanting to get his name out there.
