Re: Euro 2024
Amdouni on with 5 mins to go, jogged about and couldn't be arsed even chasing a ball down and pressing the defender (Hendry) then get's a golden chance and puts it wide.
About right that.
About right that.

it's amazing how quick some of our "supporters" are to have a dig at a Burnley player.

His record before that cameo for Switzerland and Switzerland U21s is 16 in 31 games. He's 23 years old. Give the lad a break ffs

Thought the Swiss were dire and that was a poor game in terms of quality. Amdouni , poor miss. You’ve got to get those on target.

Re: Euro 2024
In fairness our fans have endured a season of his mostly rank awful performances. I don't like criticising our own players either but in the case of Amdouni and Tresor I think I make an exception by virtue of my observation of their effort levels for us alone.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 9:56 pmit's amazing how quick some of our "supporters" are to have a dig at a Burnley player.

Re: Euro 2024
Amdouni has had a bad season and just missed the target from about 4 yards out to win the match, all as our record signing. Criticism is fair.
Re: Euro 2024
I think people forget these are young lads thrown into the Premier league by VK. Not their fault. Amdouni has admitted he’s struggled to adapt to the premier league. It’s not easy. We need to get behind them, not bash them at every opportunity

Re: Euro 2024
I really don't get the laziness tag to be honest. I don't know his distance covered, but his defensive stats are pretty good suggestive of someone willing to work. Regardless, I just find it disappointing there was a time we'd be really excited to have a young player of 23 playing in a top side at the Euros. And some of the comments on here Id expect for a Blackburn player not a Burnley one. I really hope he has a cracking season for us next year

Re: Euro 2024
What are you talking about. It's not even preferable to sprint around aimlessly, it's not how top players find space. Even Leo Messi talks a lot about the value of walking and standing still. Amdouni, ability and potential wise, is one of the best strikers we've had at his age with the experience he has in Europe and Internationally. One collective bad season does that change thatCoolClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 10:19 pmAmdouni nonchalantly jogging about the pitch at 1-1 as a fresh substitute says it all.

I still hope we get to see Amdouni in a Burnley shirt next season, but I suspect we won’t.

I'm talking about when he's just come on tonight and there's an instance where Scotland are defending running back to their own goal and Jack Hendry is running to retrieve the ball, Zeki is jogging at half pace and puts zero pressure on to him where I believe that he should have been busting a gut and really putting pressure on to the ball.
Of course when his team is in possession I don't want him running around like a headless chicken, it's doing the hard yards and willingness to get 'stuck in' which he just doesn't have.

Re: Euro 2024
Not really an obsession when I simply said that I don't think both are up to it, were daft signings for that money and that we'd have faired better with Muric and Brownhill in their respective positions all season (Brownhill attacking mid like he was last season)... and I think that I have been proven right.Hapag Lloyd wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 10:34 pmGood to see that you’ve moved on from your weird obsession with “Traff” unfortunately for Amdouni it seems that you now have him in your sights.

Re: Euro 2024
His defensive stats just don't back up your point of view. In terms of tackles, blocked shots, interceptions and clearances (headed and otherwise) he's up there as one of the best of all our attacking players last year. High bar? Perhaps not, but singling him out makes no sense at all.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 10:36 pmNo sh1t.

Just looked up vs a 34 yr old Jay Rod who had far less minutes than he did and per 90 had better duel win %, not that I'm particularly bothered about analysis done via random data points - that's what brought us that sh1te we all endured last season.
The fact that twice we went down to 10 men, took Amdouni off and played far better as a result speaks volumes to me.
He's skilful - of course but not a player that will thrive in English football or when the intensity steps up, doesn't have that dog in him.
Will be happy to be wrong but just can't see it.

Re: Euro 2024
Fair enough, I hope he proves you wrong too! I'm not saying he had a good season, far from it. But it takes some players a while to adapt to the physicality, and part of the problem was having so many young players trying to adapt at once at the highest level. It will be interesting to see who suprises us this year, because I suspect there'll be a few.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 10:52 pmWho consists of our attacking players from last year?

Re: Euro 2024
The Amdouni miss sums his season up. He did the hard work by getting ahead of the defender to meet the header, then fluffs his lines. He's very much the nearly man. He was an odd signing though as I've never understood where he fits into the VK model. Tella worked his socks off every week, Barnes was physically a handful. These were the guys we needed to replace for the system and Zeki doesn't fit into either category. His style of play couldn't be further away from Tella's.
He's a luxury player, that much is obvious. He's not going to bust his balls closing down defenders and that's fine as long as your positive contributions to a match outweigh the lack of running. We've had players like him before, Robbie Blake didn't press from the front for example. He was consistently quality on the ball though, all be it playing at a lower level. I suspect Zeki would also be brilliant in the Championship as he'll get time to show his real quality. Unfortunately I don't see him being a Burnley player in August.

Re: Euro 2024
I’m indifferent about Amdouni. He can be a skilful player at times, however he appears to lack the minerals to cut it in the English game. My main concern however, is that he cost around 15 million pounds along with that other skilful waste of money the ineffectual Mike Tresor.
If both of these had been signed for nominal fees we could cut them a bit of slack and be more patient. The problem the new manager will have is that to get a monetary return for Alan Pace on these two, he will need to play them every week. Here lies the problem.
