It matters v little whether the new head coach is announced tomorrow, next Tuesday or the Wednesday following.

It matters v much that it’s the right person for all involved.

They’ll be a lot more going on in the background we’re unaware of.
Both things can be true. Clearly I'm not saying we should just get someone crap so he's in place for pre season.
But it's far from ideal if we've got people in temporary roles taking the first week or 2 of pre season.
The last 2 managers who have got us promotion have set the tone on day 1. The longer you leave it the more you have to play catch up.

Both started pretty poorly. Especially the Dyche season in the championship after relegation when he’d already been in charge for a year or two

Kompany started poorly? Did you see the Huddersfield. What transformation was incredible and showed just how important pre season had been.

I was talking about Dyches first season but just in general he and the players always talked about how important It was. The poor start that season was more due to not having the squad in place. Gray and Barton came in late. Luckily we accepted very quickly that Hennings and Vossen weren't going to cut it

Results were far from great. Only 4 wins in the first 12 games (admittedly only 1 loss).

1 loss from 12 in the first 13 games with a whole new squad and a totally new style being implemented. That seems pretty good to me.
I'm not sure what point you're making really. Are you suggesting pre season isn't important? That would go against what basically all managers and players say

No, I was making the point that we only won 4 of the first 12, which is isn't that great. I didn't mention the weather, the general election, or the importance of pre-season! ;)

I think that the new assistant was Bellamy's replacement, he would have needed a work permit so he could have been approached before Bayern came knocking.

For that reason, I’d be surprised if we did but I wouldn’t be disappointed.

I think it’s important we follow a professional process and assess the whole market. Likewise feel it’s important to have an interim in place to plan pre-season and deal with any immediate issues.

I think Bellamy has things going for him, namely continuity. He was part of a management team that smashed the league and was 21 points off 3rd place so even accounting for some slippage in that given his own inexperience and notwithstanding I think we now have a stronger squad overall, you would expect him to be able to get us up. Plus he knows the players, system and would probably be much cheaper which might be attractive given the revenue loss this year. If it’s him, I’ll get behind him and wish him well.

I would think that Alan would want ‘a name’ in order to develop the image of the club and attract investment though.

The 39-year-old Dane joins from Swedish side Kalmar FF and has previously had management roles at Danish women's side Fortuna Hjorring, as well as IFK Norrkpping, Linkopings FC and Midtjylland.
“It just felt like a good fit after good conversations. It just felt like we fit together," Jansen said.
“I’ve followed this amazing, historic club. The playing style, the facilities and Turf Moor... I’ve seen matches and the atmosphere just seems amazing.
"To go out on that pitch is going to make me extremely proud.”

I wonder if he’s actually been to Burnley to watch a game.

It's utterly baffling people are following the betting markets for this, betting markets which have been shaped by people inventing links to random European managers, which bookies will not have given a second thought to other than a possible slight awareness of how immoral it is to make money off mugs.

Equally baffling how often people have decided portents have divined the next manager will be x, or made up scenarios in their head that prove the next manager will be y.

It is fun to speculate on the next manager I think, but there are a lot of people in this thread who need to take a step back and realise it's ok that we don't know.

Agree - completely bizarre people constantly paying attention to movement in the betting odds, finding the process torturous and dreaming up links like two people being from the same country.

If you were a professional player that signed for Burnley because of the lure of VK, watched him fail, then were told the assistant to that failure was taking over, would you want to stay? We have no idea what Bellamy's relationship was with the players, it could have been toxic too.

Equally, if you are professional in Europe looking for your next big move, would Bellamy lure you?

We won't appoint Bellamy.

It would be an even more amateur move from the owners to pick a manager that several players like when said several players still have a full transfer window to be sold

This happens everywhere whenever a caretaker is appointed. The trick is to avoid the temptation to actually give them the job.
Luckily we've been quite good at that as a club when there were shouts for Steve Davis/Terry Pashley or even Stuart Gray to be given the job. All would have been disastrous.

The idea of given someone the managers job at this level because some of the players like him is ludicrous.

I've seen matches and the atmosphere *seems* amazing. Think when he says he's seen them it's likely from the TV or it would be an odd use of the word seems.
