Sky contract renewal- Help.

Post by beddie » Thu Jun 20, 2024 2:36 pm

Help once again required please. My 18 month contract runs out in 2 days. My package is the basic signature along with sky sports. No phone line or anything else. The price quoted from Sky going forward is £57.84. Whilst that doesn’t sound a love it’s still a hike to us of around £15.00 p.m. I’ve just spoken with them and they won’t reduce it. Just wondered if anyone else is in the process of renewing and if they’ve any tips. I’ve mentioned cancelling but they didn’t seem overly bothered. Thanks in advance.

Commit to cancelling, eventually you'll get through to someone who will give you what you want. Thats what has usually happened for me

Hi Beddie. If Sky are not budging on the price, depending on where you are based look for an independent Sky Installer.

I had Sky for years and due to family circumstances had to look for a more fitting package. Sky would not move on price and wanted over £127 per month which was a no go for me as I didn't think the service warranted that amount.

Anyway went through an independent supplier and got full package ( Channels, Box Sets, Movies, Sports and even Netflix ) for £60 per month ( a smaller package will be cheaper ). Even Sky had to come out an fit the new dish and box which were already fitted on old system. Only issue which I didn't think was an issue was it's a 2 year contract.
I phoned Sky and gave 30 days notice, when asked why cancelling told them it was due to price and was going through an independent supplier. After 23 months all you have to do is ring Sky, give 30 days notice and get a new deal with your independent supplier in another persons name within the household.

Sky don't like it but nothing they can do.

PM me if you need more info.. Where are you based ??

Just cancel and leave it for a few weeks, they'll be back.

They tried telling me if i did, I'd lose my "platinum VIP" membership or whatever... I don't even know what that is.

At the very minimum I would ask to speak to cancellations - they can usually come up with a better offer. But they are getting tougher to negotiate with.

They are definitely tougher to deal with now - gone through with cancelling which is the 30th June, so far nobody has tried to call me or via the app. Been a customer for 21 years but refuse to pay more than my last deal.

A few months ago I cancelled Sky Sports & Sky Cinema, and a few other options and saved over £60 p/m.

I bought a Fire TV 4K device for £40 off Amazon, and a 12 month IPTV subscription for £50, and haven't looked back.

Like what others have said, you need to cancel it and say that you are going to look at alternate options.

I have just cancelled it and I am in my 31 day notice but I don't intend to renew it. I have looked at what I watch and I seem to spend most of my time watching stuff on YouTube/Apple TV/Netflix/Prime and the free to air channels.

I have an apple TV now so are just going to that and will get NOW TV entertainment for £6.99 a month for 6 months for the limited sky programs that I like to watch.

Not sure what the situation will be with watching Burnley for the away games this season given more games are going to be on Sky but assume there will be a way to access the international iFollow service for all games.

I think iFollow has been scrapped because of the new tv deal with Sky.

EDIT: international service not scrapped

I've done the Sky Sub Renewal Dance many times. Ask to speak to cancellations. First theyll keep you on hold. Then when you speak to someone, they engage in pointless BS, and after a while they will reduce their offer

You refuse this and tell them to cancel. Don't budge, even after your service has been cancelled. Its a silly waiting game, but sooner or later, they'll come down to what you are currently paying. Leave it a little longer and you'll get an offer that's even less.

As mentioned. Commit to cancelling.
You get put through from one to another, neither seemingly knowing what you have previously said.

Ask them for a better deal. See what they say, then say 'nah, just cancel it'. They get panicky.
Whilst doing it, look at the deals for a new customer. See if the offers match what they are offering. If it doesn't question it (they'll tell you that it is for new customers only).

The other week I got to this point and said 'If I can't have the I'll cancel... are you saying I can't?'
Then wait... Make sure they speak before you.
They offered me what I was willing to pay (increase of £5 rather than £35)

Thank you good people for your responses. Does anyone know if you can have just Sky Sports football as against all the sports. I.e. the full sports package. If so I would assume that’s cheaper?

I always do this on live chat, coincidentally I had to renegotiate my broadband deal today. It can be quite slow - it took over an hour - but I was at my computer anyway and I find it easier than doing it over the phone.

Here is a little tidbit…..if you don’t already know, you can re-contract at any time during your 18 month contract, You just have to pay a £15 re-contrct fee for the ‘offers’…..so…..when Black Friday comes around or you see a good offer on one of the comparison sites give them a call. YOU need to reference the offer, they can’t guide you to it….where Black Friday is concerned you can get some cracking bundle deals, you just need to tell them which you want. Yes, it will cost you an ‘admin’ fee but you will continue to save a packet without having to do the cancel dance!

Might leave you without telly for a few days in the middle but you could always sign up in the Mrs name as a new customer and go through a cashback site etc.... You'll end up with one of the new customer offers and also a decent little cashback payout.

I usually tell the broadband company I'm going to do this and they don't reduce the price but give me the equivalent in credit on my account that I would save/get cashback for so it ends up working out the same price without having to switch.

I believe you can but be careful with that. The new Sky Sports Plus streaming channel will only come free to those with a full sports package. You will need that new channel for the Football League games.

Just found this:

Once live, customers with a full Sky Sports subscription won't need to do a thing; Sky Sports+ will simply drop into the existing Sky experience, across Sky Glass, Sky Stream, Sky Q, and NOW
