Appoint him interim to start with and then fly out to speak to him again
It’s only weird if you believe every bit of shoite you hear

Whilst I may prove to be wrong (and I would hope I would be) i firmly believe appointing Craig Bellamy as manager would be a truly horrendous appointment that would signal a lot of trouble for Burnley and a long run in this division with debt mounting up.

You’ve got to ask yourself where the rumours came from about Van Nistelrooy being “very close” to becoming the new man came from.

If it’s not true then why did it come to light?

I imagine that De Telegraaf have a source in the Van Nistelrooy camp who believe he's very likely to get the job and have jumped the gun to be the first to crack the story.

The established print media are still often* more reliable sources than rumour accounts from social media AND even the journalists on twitter.

For a journo on twitter (Nixon, Sacha etc) to post their own story all they have to do is justify it to themselves. They might only want to post something for the traffic it brings. In Nixon's case, he almost certainly occasionally posts stories to wind up fans and/or to fill space in his paid patreon page thingy.

However, for these same journalists to get one of the established print media to publish the story (no matter who it is) they have to persuade an editor as to why they should go with the story. Most probably with a confidential disclosure of their source. The editor is the key thing here. Somebody else has to gauge the degree to which the story might (or might not) be true.

That's why stories that make it to any of the established old print media sites often* have more substance to them.

* Often, but not always.

NB: This is my way of looking at it. You're free to make up your own mind. :)

The worry is what football knowledge do the “others members” actually have? It would not be the right appointment imo. We need a Manager with experience at this level otherwise, well I dread to think.
Yeah Because the last 3 managers that won the league had loads of experience at this level……

Pace flying to Majorca to tell Bellamy he had the job, then saying I'll see you Monday morning for training.
Nobody really believes that do they.
If Pace flew out to Spain to talk to Bellamy it can only be for the following reasons:
A. He didn't get the job and he is trying to persuade him to stay at the club (which assumes that the new manager is ok with it)
or
B. Pace believes he owes Bellamy an in-person rejection and wants to thank him for his time with the club personally.

Let's face it, if the decision has actually been made and he's been given the job he'd say "Get back here ASAP we want to make some corny video announcing you". There's no way he'd fly out to tell him he's got it.

Lots of truth in this Rowls.

My son in law covers football for 2 national dailys...he now has to demonstrate "2-source verification" for every story of any significance.
Along with another reporter friend and an active stringer from the Liverpool area, they have almost zero interest in Burnley FC, and even less in messageboards.
Professional rumour mongers like Nixon carry little if any respect amongst genuine journalists.

Bellamy appears to be the most logical route and will probably be ok working with the new assistant manager. The board will feel there is continuity with him and Jackson if one of them leaves or it proves too much for Bellamy. Not a promotion winning set up imo. Just cannot see a new external high level manager being told he has to work with assistants he may not want.

Look at our time since Sean Dyche’s 2013/2014 promotion and ask yourself how could a club in our position over the last decade (8 out of 10 seasons in the Premier League) be reduced to appointing an assistant who has never managed before?

Surely, surely not.

I don't think Bellamy would be a disaster in this situation. I also don't think we'd reach the dizzy heights of two seasons ago. Bellamy might end up being a decent manager in the future, who knows. But you can't expect too much from anyone's first season in management.

I’m not sure that appointing someone you “can’t expect much from” in their first season, would be anything but a disaster.

Our need for promotion must rule Bellamy out. We really don’t need someone who might be a decent manager, we need someone who already is a decent manager.

More likely to be a reflection on the state of the finances. Why would a 'big name' come here if there's bugger all money to spend, even after a fire sale. He'd be setting himself up to fail.

Maybe I didn't frame that post as I intended. I would be surprised if we challenged for auto promotion in Bellamy's first season. I also don't think we'd finish in the bottom half. So I don't think he'd do a disastrous job by a Championship manager's standards, but yes I can see why it could be seen as a disastrous outcome for us given our expectations.

To be clear I too would prefer someone to appoint someone with at least a season or two in management.

Bellamy for me is an absolute non starter. He only got the job here because he was part of the VK team from Anderlecht. We have since heard that despite a very good playing career (and we must assume he made some serious money) that he had been bankrupt, suffered mental issues and was allowed to work 3 days a week, and has no experience of managing a club. The pressure of managing us with the expectation of promotion, will absolutely finish him off-to add to this he also left the club a few weeks ago and is now recalled. I may be wrong in my fears, but BFC just cannot be in a risk business this season. I also disagree with posters on here about the quality of the managers who have been linked-there have been some very good ones in the mix

I know you mention other factors as well but I wouldn't exclude giving someone a job because of issues with mental health. We can all go through difficult times and you can see people thrive when given an opportunity. I'm reluctant to comment more on someone else's mental health. But I agree that there are some decent options we've been linked with that I would approach first if I was AP.

I wouldn't have an issue with Bellamy. Knows the club, saw what it took to get us promoted, fell out with Kompany as he saw what was going wrong and couldn't persuade him to change tact.
He knows player's strengths and weaknesses something a complete outsider would need time to find out.

I’ve said from the start I’d not be against Bellamy.

- He was part of a team that won us the league with 101 points. 21 points off third.
- He knows the system that achieved that but will likely have his own ideas on how that can be evolved.
- IF he gets on well with the players (varying reports, we don’t know, but Alan will), then he would bring some stability and unity amongst the group - a new manager may not.
- He’s seemed a normal, down to earth guy who has handled himself well from what I’ve seen.
- We don’t know the finances but if signing him saves a few million it’ll likely help cover some of this summers player instalments.

If we keep this squad together - a squad that dropped 28 points or whatever from winning positions in the Premier League but will be facing far less capable defences and attacks next year - I reckon I could get them up tbh. It’s rare in football that sheer quality doesn’t see you through and we have lots of it. If it were a choice of signing Bellamy and keeping hold of more of it, or a big name and losing more because of the additional cost, I’d go for retaining the player quality.

I’d still be surprised to be honest. I do think ‘a name’ is more likely going to fit ALK’s aspirations for developing the image of the club but I would back Bellamy 100% and I wouldn’t be upset about his appointment.

I thought there was a shortage of fantastic managers hence the merry go round going on still!. BUT fear not it's evident this board is full of top grade experienced managers just waiting for that call 🤣🤣

The whole ‘Bellamy knows the club’ argument is a crazy reason for anyone to think he would be a good appointment
He also knows the players, what it takes to win the championship, what went so well in that first season and hopefully what went so badly last season.

Not sure why I feel so compelled to defend him. Starting to talk myself into thinking he'd be a decent appointment

Think I'd still go for RVN before him though.

I’m throwing this into the mix.

Are they making another film/tv series “Mission to Burnley 2”? All this mystery, number of candidates, silence and suspense plus the Chairman jetting off suddenly to meet a former/current employee. All the drama of Kompany’s exodus + the huge German club that he’s gone to.
All good for tv viewing and the associated tv income.

Just a thought. 🧐
