Hungary deserved to win that to be honest, better of two bad teams.

Re: Euro 2024
In a must win game they had 5 attempts and 1 on target, can't have any complaints. Steve Clarke football makes Southgate's tactics look like Guardiola

Re: Euro 2024
Scotland were pretty dreadful in all three games. No point waiting until the last 10 mins of their tournament to have a go. They had all the possession in the first half tonight and barely mustered a shot.

Re: Euro 2024
Are you Burnley in disguise? Sums up the naivety. With the two in Spain and Italy groups on 1 pt with the big boys to play I suspect 2 pts would have been enough.

Looks like the Jocks were probably robbed of a penalty.

Re: Euro 2024
Can’t believe these pundits! To me it was obvious that Armstrong initiated the contact and even had hold of the defenders shirt.

Re: Euro 2024
To be fair though Armstrong jumps into the defender away from the ball. The defender has no chance of avoiding contact there.
Maybe if he'd been braver and tried to play teh ball and shoot ...

Re: Euro 2024
The punditry here in England is, to say the least, a little biased.
It looks to me like there's a clear reason the penalty wasn't awarded - the Scot literally jumps in front of the defender. He's trying to turn the player / protect the ball but at that point he's no longer in control of the ball. He jumps away from the ball to do this.
Nobody can argue about there being "contact" but that's not the point. The Scot jumps in front of the defender and away from the ball to instigate the collision. If anything, it's a fk the other way.

Re: Euro 2024
Two things to take from that. European refs are on a different level to ours and Scotland are a fairly average League One side.
Re: Euro 2024
Middle of the pitch that’s a free kick 100% of the time, players are entitled to put their body between the ball and the opponent. I’d be furious if the clarets hadn’t got a pen for that.BabylonClaret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 10:12 pmThis. He looks back jumps across the defender and totally forgets he is in front and has a chance to score. Deserved nothing

Re: Euro 2024
It’s never a pen. We’ve been left behind in England (and Scotland). In Europe, they moved on from all that ‘there’s contact’ nonsense. Go down.. play on, squeal like a baby.. play on, intitiate contact.. play on.
It was easier to just get a shot away instead of manufacturing a collision. 100% his fault.

He's entitled to get his body between the ball and the opponent only if he is in control of the ball. And by jumping the way he did, he was not in control of the ball.

Re: Euro 2024
It's a funny game when the player who is attacking the goal pauses, jumps a little bit to his left, puts his arm on the defender approaching from behind, pulls the defenders shirt and then claims a penalty when the defender's knee bumps into the back of his leg.
The referee and the VAR (assuming var thought it was worth var reviewing) got it right.
Referees and VAR have been so much better than we see in the Premier League.
