More fun for us at the top of hill from tonight
"Final phase of the Town2Turf scheme started tonight - Monday, June 3.

Centenary Way and Church Street will now be closed to vehicles each night from 10:00pm – 5:00am until Sunday, June 22, with Yorkshire Street between Church Street and Belvedere Road closing from 8:30pm.

While traffic will still be able to pass through on Centenary Way and Church Street until 10:00pm, motorists are being warned to expect delays from 8:30pm. Access will be available at all times for residents, pedestrians and cyclists"

Good, will speed things up and minimise the hindrance to road users by doing it at those hours. Starting to come together nicely now.

4 way lights have been at the bottom of Lancaster drive this past week in Padiham. This morning they blocked the road up doing work causing angry residents to come out. It has now reached a point whereby drivers are just ignoring the lights and driving as normal. I don’t blame them, totally unnecessary.

The lights are only there to protect workforce and pedestrians from any traffic. Sometimes it can look like overkill but it only takes one time for someone to walk out into the road around works and get hit by a moving vehicle for it to be fatal.

Frustrating for drivers in traffic yes, but to make folk safe it is necessary.

Walked in front of the Keirby, on the roundabout side this afternoon and it does look quite good. Hopefully the central reservation under the culvert is coming out, otherwise the lanes look tight.

There’s fencing up to protect the workers and the lights are on a junction anyway! People naturally give way. Plus they are stuck on red. As I say, totally unnecessary.

The lights at the bottom of Cambridge Drive weren't working again this morning at school run time. One guy stopped and told one of the THREE workers (workers being a loose term) and was told somebody was on the way. Three hours later they were still not working and the three guys seemingly oblivious. My wife stopped to ask why they still weren't working despite them saying someone was coming three hours earlier to be told they were working and have only just stopped working. A blatant lie.
The entire project of upgrading the gas pipes in the area around Lancaster and Cambridge Drives has been a s***show from start to finish. Besides being way behind schedule they have been incredibly ambivolent to the local residents. The patchwork of filling in they have left looks a right mess. Just looks amateur. Added to that they have punctured water mains at least 3 times. They have dug peoples driveways up and left them in a disgraceful state. To Cadents credit they have been good in that they have attempted to put many right including ours.
Thankfully they are nearly done.

Not using their own labour force is the issue
All councils Sub work to contractors who Sub work out. Then the process is repeated till Steve and his mate from Bacup get the gig as they put in the cheapest quote. They start but have no gear so dig up the road putting up lights.
They move onto the next job and on it goes
A penalty for incomplete works in a given time frame needs imposing or better still a council employed road team
Steve and his mate did my removal a few months back. Good pair of lads.

You don't blame people for driving through red lights. Wow. You sound a right prat. Lets just hope these people don't drive into any of your relatives when they break the law driving through these lights. You might have a different outlook then. Just be patient for a few minutes.

I would go further and say that I hope they don't run into my relatives even when they aren't breaking the law.

The gas network in that area was in need of attention that’s for sure. Collapsing mains pipes and corrosion which has been seen to now . All takes time unfortunately and it always looks dreadful at the time. Protocols to be followed means it’s very time consuming and frustrating for the public .

Before you call me a prat, go and look at the situation first. The lights are NOT WORKING and haven’t been for days and they are at a NATURAL JUNCTION. Bellend.

Great. Then the drivers can wait at the red lights then like normal. I honestly don’t understand what drivers are expected to do in these situations which increases frustrations on morning school runs and getting to work.

According to this the plan was always to complete in summer 2024. Sounds like it's a bit behind schedule but not as much as people in the town like to suggest.

You stated that "It has now reached a point whereby drivers are just ignoring the lights and driving as normal"

This suggest that people are going through red lights, which you astonishingly showed delight in. So yes, you are a prat.

Where have I ‘showed delight’? Stop making stuff up. People was driving through the red lights at the junction yes. If you actually looked at where they were stationed, and the reasoning behind it, then you’d get a better perspective of why I said what I said.

Watch out if you are travelling via Centenary Way today. 4 way temporary lights outside Tesco and bus station. Will be chaos at peak times.

Not only did I go through a red light at a temporary traffic light last weekend (near Kirkby Stephen), I also told someone else he should do so as well. Doubly bad. (I could have driven the 20 mile detour, and legally that's what I should have done, but sod that for a game of soldiers.)

The vast majority of people comply with laws because they believe it is the legally and morally correct thing to do. However, you are always going to have a section of the public (usually morons) who for whatever reason are never going to comply with the law. And would you believe that we don't have one, but two of them on this messageboard, who are bragging about breaking the law and in doing so putting other peoples lives at risk. You are both egotistic idiots.

Pushpinpussy. If you are referring to me, then you have blatantly ignored any context of my previous posts, and are commenting on a situation you now nothing about as I assume you never bothered to check it out yourself. I am a law abiding citizen, but I also have common sense, something which you clearly lack.

And just to add, show me where I have bragged about breaking the law? Not once have I ever said I drove through a red light. I have said I have seen others do it and on that occasion, as the lights were BROKEN, I didn’t blame them. It’s evident you do not drive locally because it is a complete **** show and has been for months.

Yesterday afternoon the town centre was at a standstill with school traffic etc..
Thankfully the mainline buses to and from Colne were rerouted to avoid joining Centenary Way.
It's difficult to understand why the Tesco lights have been switched off and replaced with temporary lights...

Part of the Town 2 Turf works includes some work on the junction between Centenary Way and Red Lion Street, the latter becoming one way in the direction of Centenary Way, so I'm assuming it's that.

Part of Brunshaw Road has collapsed (near the speed camera).

United Utilities have said that it will be a 'complex repair' required, so the gods only know how long it'll be out of action.

I noticed the other day that all the cones blocking off the overtaking lane on Todmorden Rd alongside Towneley Park have been removed.
They’ve been there ages. Has anything been done or was it actually the case that someone forgot they were there as someone on here stated?

The centre section has been repaired, it was in a terrible state before.

Temporary traffic lights on Casterton Avenue and Colne Road (near the Oaks) are gone.

New temporary lights were at Burnley Road in Brierfield yesterday.

Thanks. It’s took them quite a while to do it. Must be some sort of record for cones in place before the job actually gets done.

Yesterday afternoon the town centre was at a standstill with school traffic etc..
Thankfully the mainline buses to and from Colne were rerouted to avoid joining Centenary Way.
It's difficult to understand why the Tesco lights have been switched off and replaced with temporary lights...
All the bus services coming into Burnley from the east are being rerouted until further notice.

Absolute lunacy to start the work at Tesco before finishing the job at the other side of the bus station.

Very few people (you being perhaps the only exception) would sit all day at a broken traffic light on a deserted road because the light was red.

The problem which such smug "the law is always right" attitude comes when a fire brigade or ambulance is trying to get somewhere to save lives, and someone (again, it may be only you) would not squeeze onto the pavement or move a foot across a red line to let them past, because "it is the legally and morally correct thing to do".

We have had lunancy throughout this project regarding the phasing of works and in particular because the temp lights, signs and cones etc have been sub let. Once they are up they stay up regardless of whether work is being done. It's been and continues to be a disgrace.

Yorkshire Street could have been 2 way months ago, thus relieving pressure on the Sparrow Hawk junction and adjacent roads and Parliament Street.

LCC have a lot to answer for. The work would have been done much quicker and with massively less disruption had it been undertaken by a private contractor, working under the direction of the old County Borough of Burnley, because local accountability would have ensured it.
