If Southgate lets off the shackles we’ve got a great chance of getting through the next two games. Can’t see him doing it though.

Perhaps that is why they were 18/1 at the start of the tournament since there was no great expectations of them despite being previous winners. They didn’t even have a player with double figures in international goals.

We should definitely beat them, never mind can.

If we don’t get to the semi finals at least now, I’d charge Southgate with treason, let alone sack him!

My God how poor Italy were. The Swiss did play well but they were up against a desperately pallid Italian team.

Bad, but still hit the post twice (admittedly not entirely through their own efforts)

Italy appeared a team without leaders, a common problem amongst poor sides!. Whilst Xhaka was superb for the Swiss and they played as a team. No fear of receiving the ball and comfortable to pass it to any team mate, not always a given in teams.
Lack of Leaders has seemed an England problem yet Pickford, Walker, Trippier, Rice, Gallagher and Kane have all been seasoned club captains. Strange.

Yeah they just showed the replay over here of it, I've only seen one replay - did he move to block him or did he just stand his ground and not get out of the way ?

matter of time before Germany score here

I think it was given because the denmark player that should have been marking the goal scorer was body checked so as to prevent the marking?

It's utterly tenuous at best, anyway.

Yep, its a team game. Players exerting themselves out of their comfort zones to give their team-mates an option/some support goes along way. A fair bit of skill helps but a moderately skilful team playing tightly together and getting a bit of luck can go a long way (as per Greece in 2004). A leader/forceful personality such as Xhaka is a big help.

The previous leaders in the Italia team Leonardo Bonucci, Manuel Locatelli and Ciro Immobile had all retired so the manager opted for youth. One player, Barella had 9 goals from 53 caps and the next best had just 7. No surprise at all.

It was the correct decision to rule the goal out.

How is the defender supposed to track the goalscorer if he’s body checked in the process?

Commentator said the storm arrived earlier than expected which would kind of suggest it might be active for a while. Will it re start?? How would that even work with re scheduling

Yep, you're right. I've become somewhat conditioned to goals being ruled out for slight offsides, handballs or fouls that an actual offence slipped under the radar.

Seem to recall a match being stopped due to a storm in Germany in 2005 during the Confederations Cup.

They should take an early half time, but they won't.... End up playing 5 minutes and then having half time.

The only people being protected here are the players.

Everyone else is sat exactly where they were before the storms started, in the stands.

Where the games we've had abandoned (Port Vale & Leicester spring to mind) abandoned straight off or suspended first, then abandoned?

I feel a bit sorry for Denmark. After a ropey start, they’d grown into the game and got some control. They were looking quite comfortable when the game was stopped.

The break handed the Germans a chance to re-group.

I’m not sure about the Port Vale game but the Leicester one was immediately called off. I probably shouldn’t have said weather, I was more thinking of the storm.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a game stopped and then restarted other than a floodlight failure when I’ve been there although I’m sure I must have.

Remember being at a game at Oldham, 3-3 draw, when thunder and lightning seemed to be very close to the ground and worrying about lightning hitting the corrugated tin roof.

Unless I'm mixing up my Leicester games then the game was called off at half time? I'm thinking of the new years day (or thereabouts) game, about 20 years ago.
