Clive Tyldesley
Last commentary game for ITV tonight.
Bit odd mid tournament ?
Always think he’s decent.

Re: Clive Tyldesley
Wasn’t bad on our 4th Division season review VHS, but I find him a bit annoying. Not as annoying as Matterface though who sounds like he’s been writing his script for weeks.

Really like him. There’s something not right there. He should never have been taken off England duty, to be replaced by the dreadful, Sam Matterface

Re: Clive Tyldesley
He went public with his complaining when they axed him as no 1 for Matterface (who I think is appalling) and he’s gone public again with this although strange they are finishing him part way through the tournament.
He’s off to work for CBS covering the Champions League.

I really enjoy listening to him and McCoist together.
From the outside looking in, he's been poorly treated by ITV in favour of the utterly boring Matterface.

Re: Clive Tyldesley
Totally agree. But Sky axed Tyler for Drury and all he seems to do is shout out a player’s name when he’s shooting at goal.
I reckon it’s a really tough job. We’ve had some really good at it and some not.

Think Mccoist is a superb pundit. Anyone compared to Matterface will be superior as a commentator.

I remember him as a commentator on the old ITV Championship programme and I don't remember him being that bad back then.

Re: Clive Tyldesley
Be interesting to hear what him or Mccoist say if anything towards the end of the game.
It was mentioned briefly at half time and they did a very short montage but very poor treatment after 28 years of service.

Poorly treated? They’ve paid him very well for 28 years!
No doubt if this was BBC decision it would be classed as being ‘woke.’

Re: Clive Tyldesley
Can’t stand his commentary, he’s always been bottom of the pile for me so can’t say I’m sorry to see him go.
Re: Clive Tyldesley
He hasn't. He's retired. Now you can enjoy of'v Matterface.
Re: Clive Tyldesley
He used to do my head in a bit with his scripted quips, especially whenever England were playing....until Drury came along and turned that particular dial right up. It's because I detest Drury's commentary so much that I warmed to Tyldesley in recent years. I'll always be thankful for the Champions VHS, he did a brilliant job with that. So many memorable moments.

Not a big fan of tyldsley but McCourt as a foil is brilliant - says it as he see it - probably best commentator on tv - blows the rest away - and as a result raises the lvl

Wherever you get your news from you want to ditch it. He most definitely hasn't retired

Re: Clive Tyldesley
Shame he’s been let go. I don’t mind him but I can’t stand Matterface. Would love there to be an option to just have the crowd noise and no commentary.
Re: Clive Tyldesley
Although to be fair Tyler’s most famous piece of commentary is him just shouting a player’s name.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2024 8:40 pmTotally agree. But Sky axed Tyler for Drury and all he seems to do is shout out a player’s name when he’s shooting at goal.

Re: Clive Tyldesley
Best commentator for me is Gary Weaver who does the championship. Matterface awful, drury just about bareable but seems to have an obsession with players hair styles.

Re: Clive Tyldesley
Always quite liked Tyldesley , good overall commentator whose style actually worked well with co commentators/summarisers. He’s almost 70 though and Tyler must be 70+? so surely retirement beckons . Though with so much football on tv ,pretty sure he could bag a good deal with a non Uk network who need a familiar voice .
Drury is JUST about “ ok” though Matterface is grating .

Re: Clive Tyldesley
Not a huge fan of Drury, but Tyler long outstayed his welcome - rambling commentary and seemed to be surprised when teams scored. Daniel Mann one of the very best and should be on the big games.
I don’t mind Tyldesley but he’s a bit Partridge. Matterface is good on the radio, but sounds more nervous on TV.

Not sure how anyone else can be bottom of a pile that includes the likes of Jonathan Pearce and Sam Matrerface.

Drury is horrific,he thinks he's Shakespeare and as for his shouting the players name we could all do that job.

Will be sadly missed by me at least. He's 10x the commentator Matterface is. No idea what it takes to work in media but when dweebs like Matterface and Drury are getting the top jobs there's clearly something going wrong.

Re: Clive Tyldesley
Maybe I’m showing my age but No commentator will ever hit the same standards as Peter Brackley on Football Italia or Brian Moore on Champions League games in the 90s.
Re: Clive Tyldesley
The thing that winds me up most about Matterface is that he calls Kyle Walker Karl Walker.
