Amdouni Fitness
I think most agree there is a real player in there, who often flattered to deceive last year. Maybe in a better team would have done better, maybe at this level if he stays will tear it up like Rutter who Leeds signed for £25m and was shocking but did great last year.
But one thing that has caught my eye in the Euros group games when he came on was how much fitter he looked. Didn't have much time to make an impact really but genuinely looked about half a stone lighter. I don't think he was overweight or unfit for us per se, but he definitely looked a lot more in shape which surprised me.
Wondered if anyone else had noticed it?

Re: Amdouni Fitness
At his age and with a pretty injury free career he should be fit as the proverbial fiddle.
I haven’t noticed him any fitter at the Euros.
What I did notice is how many times when he came on for Switzerland in the group games he over ran the ball - his first few touches were atrocious and he never looks to be in control of the ball or the situation.
He must have some potential to be in the Swiss squad given how consistent they have been as a team in recent years. That to me was always the most logical explanation for the size of his transfer fee. Yet to see much of that potential at all in a burnley shirt. Hopefully with the right coach he can improve as he fell short in so many basic areas last season.

Re: Amdouni Fitness
It was brilliant business by FC Basel last year - they bought him for €4m from Lausanne Sports after a loan and sold him to us for €18m two weeks later.
Re: Amdouni Fitness
He’s okay but I didn’t see anything from his last season that stood out.

Re: Amdouni Fitness
I’d be really interested to know the terms of that deal. Making 4.5x your money so quickly like that must surely have included a lot of incentives/conditional payments.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 11:25 amIt was brilliant business by FC Basel last year - they bought him for €4m from Lausanne Sports after a loan and sold him to us for €18m two weeks later.
I hope the way we structured last summers deals was more sensible than they looked at first glance.
To say we could’ve got Mikautadze for less than Amdouni is looking a bit of a mistake now but I’m also not sure whether he’d have the physical presence for the premier league.

Amdouni needs a manager to give him some structure. No doubt there’s a player there but he needs some guidance.

Basically, he was on loan at Basel in 2022/23 and from what I read, they had an option to buy should they wish to. With Burnley sniffing too they took the decision to exercise that option and then sold him. Lausanne must have been pretty brassed off though.NewClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 11:33 amI’d be really interested to know the terms of that deal. Re: Amdouni Fitness
Perhaps looked 'fitter' due to the lower intensity of the games vs the PL and not being quite as rushed.
Echoing BVK here - his first touch is really poor and seems to be a reoccurring issue, as well as constantly looking 'rushed' when in possession, compare that to say Adam Wharton who always seems to have time on the ball (sign of a good player imo).
Just think he's suited to lower intensity, slower paced football but I'd happily like to be wrong if it means he becomes a good 'un for us.
Daft signing for the money and what we needed last season though.

I'm not sure any Burnley fan looked at Amdouni last season and thought he needs to lose some weight?
The odd comment about he needs to bulk up maybe?

I recognised a top player who needed decent passes off team mates
Zeki will be a star with Zaroury and Benny feeding quality balls.I fancy him to score v England if he gets on.

Absolutely agree, he 'flattered to deceive' even with better players.Big Vinny K wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 11:17 amAt his age and with a pretty injury free career he should be fit as the proverbial fiddle.

Re: Amdouni Fitness
He doesn’t put himself about enough for me, still be nice to see him score at International level.
Re: Amdouni Fitness
Amdouni has a few good skills, his hard and low shooting is a particular strength, but I just don't think he has the heart for it. As others have said, his touch is often appalling as well and he frequently overruns and loses control of the ball when he's moving with it.
A very poor signing and nowhere near good enough for the league we were in last season. Hoping we can get some money for him this summer.

Re: Amdouni Fitness
Agree with all this. I think the pace and intensity of the premier league makes it so hard to know how players will fare when asked to do everything two seconds quicker than they have to in their own league.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 11:41 amPerhaps looked 'fitter' due to the lower intensity of the games vs the PL and not being quite as rushed.

International football is much slower and one of the reasons England fans struggle to enjoy watching England in my opinion.
I think Amdouni will tear up the Championship though so hope he stays.
Re: Amdouni Fitness
Being part of a dreadful side hasn’t helped him. I’d like to see him in the Championship but don’t think we will.

Re: Amdouni Fitness
Nobody knows, we’ll find out if he’s still here in September, but I feel confident in saying that potentially being a good Championship player is not why we paid about £15m for him last summer.
Re: Amdouni Fitness
Another signing where we've had our pants down. Along with Trafford, Ramsey and Tresor (a player we didn't even want). The figures involved for these are eye watering. Anybody who thinks any of these are capable of tearing up the Championship are in for a rude awakening.

Re: Amdouni Fitness
Yes, which given they’d only just exercised their option at a much lower price gives me some hope that they would’ve also agreed for our fee to be conditional on retaining premier league status, for example.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 11:38 amBasically, he was on loan at Basel in 2022/23 and from what I read, they had an option to buy should they wish to. Just a guess but I would imagine European clubs and maybe South American too, are more comfortable negotiating higher headline fees but based on success than say English clubs would be. Personally would much prefer we do deals like that where we only pay if they’re a success here.
This is the reason I wouldn’t personally loan players unless we have control of a buy option though. I just don’t see the point developing players for other teams to generate the profit, particularly now our squad is huge - different last time in the Championship.

Re: Amdouni Fitness
The only way I've come up with to try to ascertain an evidence based view of the transfers is to use the figure cited in the post accounts notes up to July 31 because they cleary pertain to activity after July 31 and do not include amortisation etc. So, Berge, Delacroix, Odobert and Ramsey come to around Eur 45 million.NewClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 1:23 pmYes, which given they’d only just exercised their option at a much lower price gives me some hope that they would’ve also agreed for our fee to be conditional on retaining premier league status, for example.

Unfortunately, Amdouni was a July purchase and not an August one but the August purchases triangulated to the post accounts figure of around £40 million surprisingly well. Of course, it's always possible I dropped a proper ricker and it was just co-incidentally close.
So, I'm not sure to what extent the conditional clauses in the contracts are cited on sites like Transfermarket and how material they are....!

Re: Amdouni Fitness
I'm with those who think we've (potentially) got ourselves a (possible) real gem on our hands. (Maybe.)
The lad clearly has potential. It's whether he or whoever becomes manager can coax it out of him or not.

Is that VK or someone behind the scenes, signing all these maybe maybe not?

Do me a favour. A couple of years ago you said that Bellingham was an average player massively hyped up by his agent and the media. Now you’re saying Amdouni is a a top player who “needed decent passes”Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 11:50 amI recognised a top player who needed decent passes off team mates
