Re: Next manager
I can’t pretend to know much about him other than he has two promotions from the Championship but was a bit rubbish in the PL and in Belgium. General sense that he is a London geezer and might not play the most exciting football. Overall meh but not horrific. Are the strong opinions against due to personality or due to something else (genuine question?)

Like it Tony, we only seemed to be totally dominant when both Tella and Maatsen were playing.
I do think we are at least as strong , but having Tella in particular running at championship defences was a very enjoyable thing to watch.

Scott Parker wouldn't have been my, 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice, but only because he isn't exciting.
As a manager, the only negative I have against him, is his very questionable dress sense.
He was one hell of a good professional player though. If it is him, he will get my full support. I hope the players can get behind him.
I can't see how 'this name' will attract players to the club though.

i can’t understand how anyone thinks we have a stronger squad now than the the one that got us promoted .. we had some fantastic players who have shone at their new clubs at higher levels

Re: Next manager
No doubt Parker under achieved with the Fulham team in the prem.
However he was hard done by at Bournemouth, they spent no money due to the upcoming sale and he made some comments after being stuffed by Liverpool.
Hopefully he’s learned from mistakes and uses it to help him when he gets us promoted

Re: Next manager
I wish people would stop commenting on Parker’s dress code. He’s intitled to wear what he likes. As long as he stabilised the team win games and gets us promoted.

Tella Barnes Cork JBG is better than what we had last season IMO is pie in the sky and with the present players the assumption that we are favs to go up like last time is blinkered to say the least

Re: Next manager
Not overly enthusiastic, underwhelmed, but he has got 2 promotions (and the second place was only 2 points behind Fulham in Bournemouth's second season after relegation)
This was the team he used most frequently and Solanke went from scoring 15 goals in 42 games to 29 in 46 games in that season.
Didn't get much of a chance when they got promoted after a tough opening schedule culminating in the 9nil loss to Liverpool and falling out over a lack of ambition in the transfer market (which was partly due to the ownership takeover to the current ones being in process). Fulham record still relegated after he got them up but more points than us last year and some good performances
Got to back him and give him a chance, still only 43 and hopefully will have learnt something from those two spells. Club Brugges was a disaster but it was 12 games taking over mid season (December 31st) so could have been many factors at play
Don't like it but hope for the best and he can prove me and others wrong

Re: Next manager
The squad comparison is pointless.
Currently we have lost half a dozen to a dozen players (some loan, some not). We have 2 months to sign replacements. On the flipside, some we have now (e.g. Weghorst) are not expected to be here when we start,
Conversely, when we were promoted we had the squad in place - but by this point in 2022 we did not. When I compare the squad now to the squad then this squad is miles better. We had no Tella (Aug 11th), no Maatsen, Cullen or Muric (mid July).
So by all means let us judge on Sept 1st. But not before.
(aware this is the manager thread but there has been a big debate on it)

Thinking the same thing. Let's get promoted first this season.
As for the crying and fountain bed wetting, that can be done next season - and personally I just put the dog right in the middle of it and tell the wife she should have taken her for a walk last night.

This is pretty crap and dull. I doubt he will be here very long.
Alan Pace will get bored of him and look for someone with a higher profile internationally when he realises the Kompany champ season wasn't the norm.

Wouldn’t be my choice and I cannot articulate as to why that is, but…we desperately need promotion and he has (however it’s been achieved) delivered that twice. We need an appointment now, so I’ll take this at this point because it’s getting ridiculous. Good luck to Scott (I absolutely refuse to call him Scottie).

Did Brian Laws win 2 promotions to the premier league ? He was a terrible appointment which saw us plummet from mid table to a relegation

We get a manager who none of the fans want. It will only end badly.
Underwhelming is one thing, but this guy is disliked by many. I have only heard bad stories about him as a person.
I still refuse to believe the Pace would be this naive.

My first opinion on this fiasco of the last few weeks. Summed up for me by Notts Claret. It's years since he was involved in Championship football. It's moved on; well beyond his capabilities. Re: Next manager
Sky Sports reporting it now that Parker set to be appointed.
Burnley set to appoint Parker as manager
Burnley are in advanced talks to appoint Scott Parker as their new manager, according to The Athletic.
Parker was on an initial shortlist to replace Vincent Kompany, alongside Frank Lampard and Liam Rosenior.
A number of other candidates, including Ruud van Nistelrooy and current acting head coach Craig Bellamy, also held talks, but Parker has now emerged as the club's preferred candidate.
The 43-year-old has been out of football since leaving Club Brugge in March 2023, having won just two of his 12 matches at the helm of the Belgian club.
Burnley have been on the lookout for a new manager since Kompany was appointed as Bayern Munich head coach in May.

Aye because it was a binary choice between those two.
I also didn't want Dyche nor Kompany to be sacked btw, just thought the latter completely f*cked it last year.

Re: Next manager
Parker certainly wasn't my no.1 choice for the position. If the reports are correct and he is our chosen man, he's clearly demonstrated something to the board to make them think he's the right man. The board have clearly taken their time and I'm sure have been diligent in the process and their thinking.
Managers come and go. Some have been underwhelming initially and far exceeded our expectations. I've learnt to reserve judgement until they show us what they can do. Might as well get behind him whilst he's here.
Beam us up, Scotty.
