Padiham FC Thread
I know a lot on here like to go watch the Storks when Burnley are away etc so thought we could have a thread for the upcoming season on everything related to the Storks.
Brilliant season last season making the play offs but falling short, I’d imagine Padiham will be one of the stronger teams again and could challenge for the title. Bury will be strong spending lots of money on wages again.
First 2 league games have been released, but not the rest.
Litherland REMYCA Away first game Saturday 27th July.
Followed by Bury at home Tuesday 30th July.
Up The Storks

I'm not that clued up on non league football, I try to keep up but obviously not hard enough.
I presumed Bury had been promoted, what happened there then?
(I could google, I know but I'll make use of the messageboard)

Why are they called The Storks ? And why is the ground called The Arbories ? I have seen a few games there in the sixties but not been for a very long time. My grandfather ran a fish and green grocers on Burnley Rd when I was a kid (1950’s)

The Stork is the emblem of Padiham.
Arbories comes from arboreal, it was a wooded area.

Eric Kerr - to be seen these days at the cricket at Lowerhouse with pint in hand.
His grandson plays for one of the junior teams, as do my two.

Eric was a good player.
Played against him lots of times in the 1990s.
Sound lad too - met him in a pub in Whalley a couple of years ago and we chatted about the old days and playing in the local leagues.
I reminded him that when he scored 2 goals against us in the Townley Cup final which they beat us on penalties that he should not have been allowed to play as he hadn’t played for them till the final and cannot have been registered !!

His brother, Colin, could play a bit too.

Bury lost the playoff final to one of the Wythenshawe teams. The other Wythenshawe side won the league, was really confusing with them both up there!

Apparently 2 millionaires run one of the Wythenshawe sides but fell out.
So one of them formed a new Wythenshawe team.
Both clubs have big wage budgets.
Re: Padiham FC Thread
Where did you get that from?
20 years ago both Amateurs and Town were in the Manchester League. Town left to go in a Cheshire League and then applied to the Counties. Amateurs joined from the Manchester League and then recently dropped Amateurs from their name.

I must have misunderstood, did he just take over then?
One of the Wythenshawe teams were trying to sign a Padiham player, offering £500 a game.

Have Padiham announced any friendlies yet? I cant see anything on Twitter
Re: Padiham FC Thread
I’m not too sure about takeovers, just know they were 2 amateur clubs for years. Never been to Amateurs but Town was just an enclosed pitch with no hard standing or seats, that was 2005. Changing rooms not up too much. I would guess both clubs have invested quite a bit to get to the NPL. AVRO were another to progress from the Manchester League to NPL. Their pitches were sold for housing and they took over the Oldham RL ground and revamped it and put a 3g down.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 11:14 pmSomeone involved up at Padiham.

Someone must be bankrolling them if they are paying that much.

Padiham’s first game away at Litherland REMYCA now moved to be Padihams home game. Unsure why ?
Padiham drawn at home to play Golcar United in the FA Cup.
Also drawn away to Thornaby in the FA Vase.

Re: Padiham FC Thread
Padiham drew 2-2 last night in a friendly with Ashton United who are a few divisions above.
Season starts next Saturday 27th July at home to Litherland REMYCA.
Should be a decent crowd with no Burnley game or higher levels that weekend.

They have started a 5 pound a month direct debit for cheaper beers and club house hire.
Same as the cricket club but I don't think it covers entry like the CC.

Re: Padiham FC Thread
Should be looking at pushing for promotion again if they've kept their team together? Colne are pretty much starting from scratch again with a completely new team.

It will be if they do it right.
I certainly get my moneys worth out of the cricket clubs 5 pound a month DD. Free entry to games and a pint of Stella for £3.35.
Morreti and Guiness are reduced to 4 quid for rich folk.

Any idea on how much the beer discount will be ? Not worth it ifs 10/20p etc but if it’s like 50p might be worth it over a season easily.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 8:10 pmThey have started a 5 pound a month direct debit for cheaper beers and club house hire.

Re: Padiham FC Thread
Padiham played Silsden away last night and ran out comfortable winners 4-2.
Silsden play in the Yorkshire equivalent of the North West Counties Premier Division.
Padiham host Burnley Belvedere Tuesday in a friendly.
Then the season starts a week today at the Arbories against Litherland, should be a decent crowd with no Burnley game and no other football etc !!

Re: Padiham FC Thread
I started reminiscing reading this thread, I used play for Ashton United, after one of the games against Colne we had a few drinks and everyone had to pee so bad on the way home, so the coach pulled over on a roundabout in Oldham and the whole team were lined up at the side of the road, it would have made a great photo.

Padiham host Burnley Belvedere tonight 7.45pm, £2 adults £1 concessions.
Also the full fixture list is being released today well now at 5pm apparently.
Isle of Man away will be on many people calendars, hoping it’s early doors so we can book flights without worry of the game being cancelled.

As for the football, Padiham 1-0 up in 2nd minute and 2-0 up soon after. Should have won comfortably but allowed Litherland back in to get a point from a 2-2 draw.
