Losing dressing rooms normally are. If you are not getting into a losing team you wonder what is the point. Find a mate thinking similar you form a clique.
I believe it was way beyond that

Exactly this. It’s really easy uniting a winning squad/team. Much harder with a losing team.

I have exactly the same in grassroots football. Team losing in a top league, players falling out, blaming each other, everyone not playing so much thinking they’d do better than those that are. Start winning again and they’re all best mates.

That was one skill and area Dyche excelled. Keeping a group together that were often on the wrong end of results. I think he did it in a way by having a core 11 then a group who were maybe lucky to be there pushing on the door but not unhappy about not being on the pitch. Will be interesting to see if the club have reflected on that after last season and it changes the makeup of how we recruit going forward. I suspect not.

One of those places it’s difficult to place but I always consider Sheffield to be north and Chesterfield is only a few miles down the road.

It isn’t going to work judging by the comments on here friends I have spoken to and colleagues at work are all very split on Parker before a ball has been kicked…

Folk are already not having him which isn’t a good sign ..

Having an unhappy squad go through pre season without a manager is a recipe for disaster. It'd be a miracle if we went up this season

I think the cliques may have been under VK. It appears more and more that he got out as quick as he could with the mess he created. Bellamy was on his way out.
Too many players.

Would Parker have been my choice? - NO
Am I excited about his expected appointment? NO

As I've said before
Was I excited with Chris Waddle's appointment? YES
Was I excited with Sean Dyche's appointment? NO

Will Parker get my full support? Of course he will. We have had managers in my time watching Burnley who I've eventually been pleased to see the back of, and the last one fits into that category, but a Burnley manager is assured my full support and that's what Parker will get. Although, I will not be buying any overprices cardigans from the club shop.
Agree with that CT and I can add disappointment with Jimmy Mullen taking over as well as Owen Coyle; delighted with Bond, Buchan, Waddle and VK who more than most was brilliant and then probably our worst performing manager over a season in our history; still cannot believe 2 home wins but against 10 men-shocking.

Maybe, but I want us to have a successful team with a good manager and not a big name. In my time we've probably had three big names managing us in Martin Buchan, Chris Waddle and Vincent Kompany.
You've forgotten the big one - John Bond!

Actually Chesterfield join the Sheffield leagues (not Derbyshire) for a lot of sports.

Kids football being one.

So yes, from the north I reckon.

I can only assume that they were unhappy at VK and the way he 'managed' the squad.

I would also, by the same token assume that there will be an air of relief in the dressing room amongst the players knowing that a fresh start will be made.

Players like Muric, Zaroury, Benson, Twine and Jay who were marginalised by VK last season may well have a renewed vigour. So to say that we currently have an unhappy dressing room is unfounded speculation based on the feelings that were evident under VK's management.

It can't help when some are marginalised as you say. Twine was out of it on loan but Benson was there all season, Zaroury for the first half of the season and Muric until he was recalled.

But, as said, it was widely reported, initially by The Athletic, who have very good sources, that the tight dressing room had gone and cliques had formed. That's a recipe for failure at any club.

I'm happy to give Parker a chance, saw some good comments about his character from Spurs and West Ham fans on a you tube clip posted here earlier on the championship play off group game against Forest i think it was, a leader in the pitch, committed, body on the line etc. Sometimes you have to judge a man on his performance as you see it not not as the herd does. I will wait and give him support from the beginning. Cliques in dressing rooms! Maybe Bellamy and Jackson could have looked into that, touted as managers.

I had heard, via a friend of a friend, from a player at the club. I'll not say which player, but it also confirms the reports of disquiet with the manager and cliques of discontent from 'experienced' players. We have also heard about a fallout between Kompany and Bellamy. None of this is really surprising when you consider the car crash of a season in the Premier league. I must admit that I am not exactly enthusiastic about Parker, if this is indeed true, but must be an improvement and will get my full support.

My 2 main concerns about Parker are firstly he has been very much a southern based player and Manager barring a spell at Newcastle. Burnley will be a complete shock to his system
Secondly he was sacked by Club Brugge after just 12 games. This hardly instills confidence
As with all new Clarets players and Managers I hope we will give him a fair chance but Burnley can be a very unforgiving place
I think the advent of Cars and Motorways will resolve the issue of location. I think Shearer lived in Formby when he played for Rovers.

Apart from Pep and Klopp there are no managers with unblemished records.

Parker maybe the worst manager we ever have in the history of the club but at this point he is the best qualified candidate for the job.

He has experience of a winning campaign in the Championship and leading a team through 46 games under constant pressure.

His big issue is the fact that he seems a little divisive but I presume the board have spoken to him and feel they can work with him.

Because it's full of human beings who have just had a season where they lost most of the games and suffered a 50 per cent pay cut as a consequence. Those who were favoured by VK will now be anxious and those not may have renewed hope tinged with trepidation for their careers.

A number will be on their way back to PL and huge contracts and a few will be speaking to their agents everyday.

No workplace would be happy given the circumstances the club finds itself in.

It was telling that Jay signed a new deal not long after VK left. I have it from a source close to him (genuinely) that Stoke was his go to club and he had also had offers from the MLS. Obviously that all changed once VK left as he was always wanting to stay here if at all possible.

What’s wrong with recruiting young hungry players. You should want to play in every game and not just be happy sat on the bench. So Ben Gibson wasn’t unhappy at not playing and wanted to leave
I’m not sure I understand your question?

My point was that I think Dyche managed very well the dynamics of a team in the PL often on the wrong side of results. Sure a couple of good seasons helped form that spirit I’m sure, but in general he fostered that band of brothers feeling and kept a group in line. I think he did that by, in the main, having a core team and then a group like Pope, Hart (at different times), Long, Bardsley, Pieters, et al who were quite happy to be in the premier league at that stage of their careers and on the bench. Gibson an exception, Vyds was also rumoured to be unhappy but we got by.

Enter Kompany and all his signings are young lads wanting to play. As they should. But so many of them gives rise to Tony’s information of unrest and cliques. FWIW, and I’m not doubting the information, but there’s lots of evidence points to players being happier than reported - Beyer was one of said unhappy players because of a reported issue on his injury treatment but he spoke very positively about the club in a recent interview so maybe the feeling isn’t as bad as reports suggest or the air has been cleared - but I think it shows the challenge of your squad being filled with that profile of player.

To be fair to Kompany and the club, our situation has been hindered by trying to rebuild a squad in a relegation-promotion-relegation yo-yo with Championship and then Premier League quality players. A rebuild needed precisely because Dyche had relied on a lot of squad players coming to the end of their careers.

It can't be any surprise that a squad that was way too big (especially an outrageous number of wingers) had issues. Throw in the number of defeats, weird use and timing of subs and stubborness to try something different, and surprise surprise we go down.

I can easily imagine the dressing room has been in turmoil under VK .. The team that got Burnley promoted flung aside with new players doing a poor job week in week out .. I think VK handled players terribly showing many no respect ..when you look back at the chaos of last season it was a horror show

that the tight dressing room had gone and cliques had formed. That's a recipe for failure at any club.
No it’s not, cliques are normal in all dressing rooms, I’d assume at professional level with international players cliques will form based on language. Mainly to settle in, it’s completely normal but for some reason you keep using your voice and reach to smear Kompany, simply because he isn’t Dyche. Very disappointing to see for a manager who produced such a magical season here.

What would you prefer?

1. A team that gets beats 5-0 and then the manager tells you it will be the worst performance all year. You then play the same way for another 9 months not improving but it is all part of 'The Project'?
2. A manager that loses his first 3 games including one 9-0, then tells you it is because your owners were trying to sell the club so didn't strengthen on promotion?

I think I prefer the honesty of the latter. It is clear, 3 games against top 6 sides isn't a fair way to understand if the manager could have turned it around. We know manager 1 could not.

It’s a bit like the fans that smear managers that produced a lot more than one good season isn’t it.

Please tell me you’re a parody account. It would start to make sense then.

Agree totally.
VK got too big for his boots after the Championship success.
He appeared to think of himself as Burnley's Saviour who could do no wrong in team selection. He abandoned all his players & staff loyalties and principles in the dressing room.
Result; car crash of a season and glad he went.

I listened the Under the Cosh podcast and they had a player on that talked about going to Birmingham when they had a massive squad. The reaction from all of them was that it was a given that it would be toxic. Found that interesting after what came out in The Athletic about us.

Either that or he's been reading 'The Catcher in the Rye'...
