It’s not a sign of confidence but merely setting someone up to fail. Setting the bar so high that it is almost impossible to succeed at the task being given. If he succeeds no credit is due it was expected, and if he fails you can guess the reaction.

We clearly have a far superior squad of players and anything less than promotion will be a failure by Parker and Pace

It's better than the board being drowned with pessimism. Nobody wants to read a poster saying how bad we're about to be or how much they are worried or concerned.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2024 5:04 pmI dont know how anyone who watched us last season comes to that conclusion

I don’t think I’ve ever gone into a season in 40 years watching Burnley, expecting us to definitely win promotion. Setting yourself up for disappointment

Re: Next manager
It certainly won’t pay to be so over confident and a degree of caution is sensible IMO.
Promotion with ease will only come if the new manager establishes a tight unit for the first team squad. He probably needs to sell or off load around 15 players and fill in the left back/ centre mid / striker positions with reliable new signings.
We will need the luck that brings with it freedom from injuries and rub of the green with refereeing decisions going more often in our favour. Players who clearly had a loss of form in 23/24 must up their game to the required levels.
I remember in 1970-71 season we had a team and squad brimming with talent and one of the top British coaches. We were expected to return immediately to division one but failed to do so due to the above reasons. I know it’s a long time ago but the principles above still apply. UTC

Pace has had to choose the best option for Burnley and we have to understand although Parker wasn’t our first or even second choice he is the most likely give us a chance of promotion

Re: Next manager
So many on here are so confident of promotion. Are ye expecting other teams to roll over. In Kompany promotion team … there were games we won 1 0 and games we scored very late on. I actually think we were lucky that year. Everything went out way.

Re: Next manager
Lucky

We absolutely battered every side we played at home after the first ten games. Even games we scored late, we’d ran over them and forced them into submission.
Take off every 85 minute+ goal we scored and we’d still probably have ended up winning the title.

Re: Next manager
Yet even in those games we were getting 70 odd % possession. We weren't clinical enough, yet still walked the league. I wouldn't call it lucky.

Re: Next manager
Also games like against Blackpool where we were 3-1 up and ended up drawing 3-3. We dropped so many points in those first dozen or so games that we could and should have been nearer 110 points.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2024 5:56 pmYet even in those games we were getting 70 odd % possession. Re: Next manager
I struggle to think that pace and co interviewed Parker and was like don’t like what this guy is saying but will employ him anyway and they are trying to build a brand of football club
Yes they have been stung by Vinny in terms of if we are too good people will come knocking but he must have interviewed well but must of impressed especially if dyche was ‘sacked’
so just trust the process…although this new ‘coach’ and right and left back certainly wasn’t signed by Parker! Haha

I have to say...SP would make a good Mormon...appearance wise. Clean cut, smartly dressed. Of course this would have no bearing on the boards decision.

We didn’t sign him because VK gave him no recognition for what he did for us .. instead thinking if was all his doing why we got 101 points and he could do just as well with a completely new team .. when it backfired he escaped through the fire exit

Lampard and Rosenior apparently, but see Vegas clarets comment above.Carlos the Great wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2024 8:54 pmLampard knocked us back ? An ego much bigger than his managerial talent .. his days as a manager are over ..ten secret is out .. he’s crap
They weren’t overly enthusiastic about Parker either and played some clips of him slagging his team off.
Re: Next manager
Hard to believe Lampard and Rosenior knocked us back. We will know better when they get they get appointed to manage whoever in future.
