Game over 1-2 to Spain.
Thought the Spanish just about deserved that but only just.

At that price I'd be in the bar too!

Good game that, this young Spanish team are running on empty now, England are running on the choke with a full tank.

Re: Euro 2024
How many players are Spain missing against France or Portugal ? They seemed to have loads booked and the 'misses next match' caption popped up
Re: Euro 2024
Yet another top game.
I don't like Germany but fair play to them. National teams all have cycles, they have come back from hell.
However, they will need to replace players like Rudiger, Kroos, Gundogan, Muller, Can.
Playing ET is beneficial for their opponents.

France v Portugal next. Don’t really care who wins but I think France will probably shade it 1-0.

Ronaldo must have one of the biggest Adams apple in the World. Looks like he is trying to swallow a chair leg.

Re: Euro 2024
Irony?
This isn’t Dyche at Burnley. How many top 10 nations has Southgate beaten? How many in tournament finals?
He’s a flat track bully - hoovers up the little sides then struggles against the big ones, all while making it a painful watch that nullifies our best players by sitting back on leads.
He’s a nice guy but just isn’t an elite manager.

I’ll repeat, the most successful England manager in 50 years. He has flaws, but those are facts.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2024 8:11 pmIrony?

Progression in tournaments. ‘Success’ isn’t just a binary outcome from winning a trophy or not, it’s not his fault Saka and Rashford kicked the ball poorly in key moments. He’s won more knockout stage games in his tenure than we had in the previous 40-50 years.

He's had the most talented squad of players a Manager could have for the last 3 or 4 tournaments .he should be progressing !RVclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2024 8:28 pmProgression in tournaments. ‘Success’ isn’t just a binary outcome from winning a trophy or not, it’s not his fault Saka and Rashford kicked the ball poorly in key moments. Re: Euro 2024
This isn’t the first time we’ve had a so called golden generation. Gareth has got us further in tournaments (WC SF 2018, Euro Final 2021) than anyone since Alf Ramsey or Bobby Robson. The football under Gareth has never been exciting but when has England ever played exciting football ? I think he’s done a brilliant job. I was just surprised that he’s reached 100 games already (probably my age). But he has done well.

With the players he’s had at his disposal, not winning the last euros, when leading 1-0, at home, is a clear indication of his management abilities. Chris Waddle could match what Safegate has…. The only time we’ve looked like we were trying to win this tournament, was when the players took it into their own hands for the final 15 v Slovakia. Then, after grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck, Safegate told em to let go….
It’s not the players that desperately need changing, just the message and the mentality. And that’s ALL Safegate….

Re: Euro 2024
Not going to argue about this point but that is an opinion not a fact. One not shared by a decent chunk of people. Which is fine, but it was my post you jumped on not the other way around.
He had some very lucky draws, I think that is closer to a fact. But when we come up against decent opposition, we lost.
Tell you what, if we win the whole thing having to beat a big team in the final I will apologise to Gareth and graciously give £50 to Cancer Research UK. Can’t be fairer than that and it is an important good cause.

Lack of quality in the 2 games today, don't know if it's down to the ball or not, no team in the tournament so far has looked head and shoulders above the rest.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2024 10:05 pmIs this make of ball particularly light? lots of skied shots.

Re: Euro 2024
Got to admire Mbappes desire if as Lineker implies he hasn’t slept for days and is in constant agony. He certainly has played like it.
Now it is 10 vs 11 instead of 10 vs 10. Or 10.5 for each if we are being charitable.

If it’s not a fact you’re going to have to name the more successful managers in the last 50 years. Good luck!CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2024 10:07 pmNot going to argue about this point but that is an opinion not a fact. One not shared by a decent chunk of people. Re: Euro 2024
If you define being successful with the sole metric being 'progression in major tournaments' then factually, yes that's true, he is the most successful manager in the last 50 years.
Its not going to be, and isn't the sole metric he gets judged on though.
