Up The Clarets
Runs today, Musselburgh 2.50.
2 yr old, only had 1 race and won it.
No idea what price it is, my son just texted me with a heads up.

It’s favourite. Don’t know the U.K. odds. It’s $2.35 here in Oz.

Re: Up The Clarets
Not an expert on horses but I do know that studs want to churn out as many as they can as close after Jan.1st, all horses birthdays.
Noticed it’s birthday as April 15th which seems quite late.
What am I missing?

Re: Up The Clarets
Fast facts. Racehorses are allowed to race from the age of two. Often these compete in what are called Juvenile races. All horses born in the same year share January 1st as their official birthday.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2024 3:50 pmNot an expert on horses but I do know that studs want to churn out as many as they can as close after Jan.1st, all horses birthdays.

Re: Up The Clarets
Came second I see.
Mr A Tattersall & Partner have two other horses that have run (A Tattersall also has at least one other ownership involvement)
Classy Clarets and Vintage Clarets
The former has raced 4 times, not won but placed once
The latter is a fairly successful 5 year old bay gelding - has won over £100k

I've backed him a few times myself, unfortunately not on the occasions he's won

Re: Up The Clarets
Is a gelding he or it?
Re: Up The Clarets
Strange question. I'm sure there's been another horse called Up The Clarets. Are racehorse names not under some type of copyright arrangement.
Re: Up The Clarets
Classy Clarets runs tomorrow at Nottingham.

Re: Up The Clarets
I remember 40 years ago Bill Watts trained a horse called Teleprompter. It couldn't win a thing because all it was interested in was chasing the fillies. They had it gelded, and it went to America and won the Arlington Million.
Re: Up The Clarets
So it's stud value would have soared...except he couldn't do it!Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2024 9:37 pmI remember 40 years ago Bill Watts trained a horse called Teleprompter. Re: Up The Clarets
You wouldn't be allowed to reuse the name of a really good horse, so there will never be another Red Rum or Shergar. But lesser lights aren't protected once they've retired.

Re: Up The Clarets
There were 2 horses in the late 90’s I think
One was called Turf Moor, the other was called Up The Clarets
Don’t think Turf Moor ever won, but I can remember up the clarets winning at around 14/1.

Re: Up The Clarets
Do our friends down the road have any horses running, or do they just use them for other purposes?

Re: Up The Clarets
Racing Post has a site where you can look up horses that have run in UK
For "Turf Moor" https://www.racingpost.com/profile/hors ... -moor/form
Mare that had 19 races; one 2nd, one 3rd, no wins. Youdve lost a lot of money backing this.
There have been two "Up the Clarets", one born 1995, one in 2020
The latter (a colt of Kodiac) ran twice mid May/early June this year with one win, one 2nd. Changed owners then ran at Royal Ascot 18/6/24 finished 22 out of 22- hopefully better to come. Doesnt have any forthcoming entries nominated yet.
