It is very true, I avoid them at work or in my social life, negativity breeds. They drain the life out of youblatherwickstattoos wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2024 10:46 pmWe will get behind him. On paper he’s proven in this league. It’s the step up to the prem I’m worried about but he’s still young and he’s hopefully learned a lot. Cmon you clarets!!!
Re: Scott Parker - First Interview
Interesting thattThe interviewer refers to him as manager, not head coach. I wonder how much authority he'll have.

It was interesting that he mentioned he was on holiday with his family when he had the first interview and then was pictured leaving an airport in Portugal last week, alright for some a nice 4 week holiday

How to become Burnley manager: history, values, connection with community etc… repeat, repeat
All copyright of Sean Dyche, who however was the only one to study and grasp the true meaning and value of what he was talking about.
I’ll judge him by his actions and results, but I honestly fear this will turn into a disaster

Re: Scott Parker - First Interview
There's a few cynics and sceptics need a bit of a cold shower I think.
There's nothing ground breaking in that interview, and whilst it might be a bit Sean Dyche, it wasn't unique to Dyche either. A great many managers start with a similar pitch. It's a good, studious email. As AG says he appears quite a serious bloke, perhaps a bit quieter but similarly intense than Kompany, and my hunch is he places a greater emphasis on leadership and experience within the playing group than Kompany did. If so, it's fair to say that is likely to be a good thing.
The one real insight was thar he clearly has a positive relationship with Bellamy- to the extent that VK and Bellamy leaned on him for Championship insight two years ago. That suggests that unless Bellamy gets the Wales job or otherwise leaves to become a number 1, he's staying and I think at least in the short term that continuity is a positive.

Biggest positive for me was that he wasn't wearing a cardigan so must have read this forum which is a good sign

Re: Scott Parker - First Interview
He won promotion in his first season on the only two occasions he has managed a championship side.
I really don't get the negativity of some of the posters on here.
Ok, his appointment does not get the pulses racing, he's not big-name and foreign. But he has my full support, and I think he'll do alright.

He never said anything groundbreaking and seems very mono-level.
I hope he makes a good start for his and our sake, but have a niggling feeling this could be a poor season. I’m not sure if he’s suited to the players we have, unless of course he’s going to get rid of most of them and bring his own in.

Like someone alluded to above the critical thing initially is how the Bellamy relationship is going to work. Did they play together at Newcastle?
Anyway, good luck SP. Can’t wait for the season to start now

In the interview with Parker that the Club posted last night, Parker mentioned how Bellamy/VK were in contact with him when they first took the Burnley job, regarding what to expect/insight etc for the Champ.

Re: Scott Parker - First Interview
I don't see anything negative with the appointment. A club like us needs someone more pragmatic than VK. Perhaps Scott can add a much needed bit of experience and steel to compliment the undoubted talent we have in the squad. His promotion record speaks for itself. As he alluded to, there'll be bumps along the way of course but I back him to do a job.

Good first interview. Looks like hard work and discipline will be required. I think he’ll command respect from the players. He has done it as a player and done it in this league as a manager.
Re: Scott Parker - First Interview
Near perfect appointment. No doubt he will have added knowledge since he left his last club.

I find him hard to warm to, but that's nothing to do with anything he has or hasn't done. Wishing him all the very best. He's got a big job on his hands but one which could be very rewarding.
Re: Scott Parker - First Interview
I think our PM Sir Keir Starmer's father was a toolmaker also.
Re: Scott Parker - First Interview
"Born in Southwark, south London in 1962, Starmer was the second of four children to Rodney, a toolmaker, and Josephine..."
(Source: New Statesman)
The comment was either an attempt at humour or made to show Parker's credentials.

I know the players all speak English - some as a 2nd or even 3rd language - but we do need someone to translate what he says into a recognisable version of the mother tongue.
I understood him perfectly well btw.

Re: Scott Parker - First Interview
I thought he came across very well. He knows what's required in this league and in English football in general. I'm quietly optimistic that he'll fit seamlessly into the club and with the help of Bellamy get a good idea of strengths and weaknesses PDQ. Welcome and good luck Scottie.

He’s clearly a good manager at this level but god that interview was tedious. Never has someone said so little in so many words.

All this talk of it turning ‘toxic’ after four games is ridiculous!
We were absolutely abject last season and it didn’t turn ‘toxic’ then. He’ll get backed by the majority of fans.

Re: Scott Parker - First Interview
Just found this comment under a youtube video about Parker:
"Bournemouth fan here - Parker got us up with Jayden Anthony, Jordan Zemura and Ibsen Rossi, also Gavin Kilkenny (we hadn’t heard of any of these youth team players!) and they were key for us! He brought in Cahill which was a master stroke and Mark Travers was incredible that season. Solanke played his first decent season with us that year and Philip Billing was different class. We didn’t spend that big, all signings were loans or only cost about a million. We were decent to watch,. Whereas we were awful under O’Neil and terrible to watch, the worse football I have seen was with GON, it was so boring and negative. Parker will get Burnley back up IMO, I don’t understand the bitterness of Bournemouth fans, Fulham fans are bitter about him because he walked out on them and went to us when they went down."

I remember the negativity on this board when we appointed Dyche - look how that turned out.
Re: Scott Parker - First Interview
Yes. They were both part of one of the last decent Newcastle team for a generation.Winstonswhite wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2024 10:31 amLike someone alluded to above the critical thing initially is how the Bellamy relationship is going to work. Did they play together at Newcastle?
Both got jettisoned, parker, being sent south and replaced by joey Barton while he was still in dick mode, and Bellamy sent on loan to Scotland as souness (I think) had a row with him. Most Newcastle fans would rather that souness had gone instead and that they'd kept parker.

The new Head Coach's English is mangled and although, like you, I understood him I do wonder if that same level of understanding will be there for those players (and there are many) where English is not their native tongue.
Like us all, I do wish him every success.

Re: Scott Parker - First Interview
To be fair, Burnley fans are more likely to back the manager for longer than most. Even last season, it was more a modicum of disgruntled moaning rather than a concerted push to get rid of Kompany. I can't say I heard a single widespread chant against VK even when the football was at its direst!hoskinsgoalatswansea wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2024 5:28 amThe problem for a manager that isn’t a widely popular choice, is he needs to make good start, especially that 4th game, or it will turn sour then toxic very quickly. It’s not right or fair, but it’s sadly the reality.

There are 10 miles between Burnley and Blackburn and the accents between the two are very different.
Make no mistake Scott Parker is English. I’m sure he will be understood by the players.
