Muric's mistakes were the most obvious, the ones vs Brighton and Everton were as bad as any I have seen in top flight football.

I thought we needed to sell players?
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Burnley interested in Nat Phillips, valued around £8m. Can't say I see much point in this one.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Think now that Parker is in, there will be a lot of links to ex players who he's managed before. Just lazy journalism tbh

If Phillips comes in that would surely see at least one centre back leave.

Hadnt realised Phillips is 27 now. Hasnt played 100 games yet .

Weren’t we linked with Phillips whilst Dyche was here?

Nat Phillips Liverpools answer to Big Kev Long
A good defender overlooked by Klopp but seemed a decent player when used.

Why is Burnley obsessed with wingers and centre backs???
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Why do we need Phillips. Our current centre backs are all better than him.

Maybe he wants to play three at the back? I'd argue we already have the players for that though anyway!

Pretty sure there is not going to be a fire sale, couple of major sales for big money & other nominal sales to trim both squad & wage bill.

Starting to feel similar - Trafford and Odobert I reckon (then the likes of Weghorst, Twine, McNally shipped out).Stockbrokerbelt wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 2:53 pmPretty sure there is not going to be a fire sale, couple of major sales for big money & other nominal sales to trim both squad & wage bill.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Not so much a fire sale, but our squad is just too big. Oversized squads lead to discontent, which now appears to have been an issue last season.Stockbrokerbelt wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 2:53 pmPretty sure there is not going to be a fire sale, couple of major sales for big money & other nominal sales to trim both squad & wage bill.
I always feel that 26 is the right number in-house. Over that can go on loan, but anymore left to twiddle their thumbs is a problem.
Besides we could do with paying off some of the debt on the back of last season.

Phillips payed 17 odd games for Bournemouth in 2022. Was Parker the manager then ?

I know several celtic fans in Glasgow, and every one say in the few games he did play he was awful. We have so many CBs with twice the ability of this guy and at a better age. Hopefully nonsense

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Our current centre backs are O'Shea, Beyer, Ekdal, Al-Dakhil, Delcroix, McNally.
Only O'Shea is proven at Championship level and started to look OK in The Prem.. You might say Beyer and McNally are proven at Championship level and Ekdal should be able to cope. Al-Dakhil showed promise but we don't have Taylor or THB. To me we don't look reliably strong in this area, especially when looking at fitness levels. Again, apart from O'Shea, none of the others is proven in The Premier League if we are looking to the future.
I don't know what Phillips capabilities are but lately he seems to be Championship/Scottish Prem capable.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Think I came across something earlier suggesting that a Turkish side had offered €4m for Phillips and Liverpool turned it down. Maybe just them trying to get a few more quid for him and using our name . We have an abundance of central defenders we simply don’t need any
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Beyer was superb in the championship. Ekdal and Al Dakhil were also decent. McNally is experienced too so Phillips would be an odd one unless we sell a few, which I suspect we will.Hipper wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 4:28 pmOur current centre backs are O'Shea, Beyer, Ekdal, Al-Dakhil, Delcroix, McNally.

As much as the reporter is respected I do think it’s a very lazy link
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Beyer and Ekdal were two of the best in the champ. Delcroix but in a fantastic display away at Spurs which suggested to me he would be more than good enough at that level.Hipper wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 4:28 pmOur current centre backs are O'Shea, Beyer, Ekdal, Al-Dakhil, Delcroix, McNally.

The big difficulty is working out which 2 play nevermind signing another one.

Its generally felt you need 4 centre-halves. For me we may need to be single minded and sell three ie McNally, Delcroix and loan or sell Al Dakhill. All three are surplus and I would rather move on the fringe players like these three avoiding the need to sell stars like Berge and Odobert

If we're planning on spending £8m on a centre back, we must be selling one (or more) for a hell of a lot more.
"If", of course.

Very strange to write Al Dakhil off. He was excellent in the championship - a cut above - and played well enough for Belgium to scramble around to make sure they gave him a full cap before any other country could get him.warksclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 8:31 pmIts generally felt you need 4 centre-halves. He was made a scapegoat in the PL being moved around to play positions and in formations which were suicide for him and then he got injured and we didn’t see him.
It’s criminal to write him off!

Funny how the Belgian National Coach described him as a ‘big loss’ and our best form year before last was after he joined in January but were willing to write him off. Will be a hell of a player in a few years I imagine.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 9:06 pmVery strange to write Al Dakhil off. That's why it was an option of mine to loan him out. There is no way he starts in front of O Shea, Esteve, Beyer if fit, or Ekdal and to have him maybe not even making the squad is going to be demotivational. . We are never going to have 5 centre halves in match day squads. Game time elsewhere will aid his development. As Parker made a point of saying today, we have a squad of 35 before we bring in anyone. Tough decisions will need to be taken that dont please everyoneJakubs Tash wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 9:06 pmVery strange to write Al Dakhil off. Instinct is that if we are looking at Phillips there's a likely substantial fee coming in for an existing centre half. I'd not be that surprised if it turned out to be esteve.

I wouldn't be spending money on Nat Phillips to be honest, he isn't as good as what we have.
If Celtic are serious about O'Shea then cash in on him and Beyer and use the season to establish a partnership between Al Dakhil and Esteve.
If Esteve is sold then I'd keep O'Shea to partner Al Dakhil.
Keep Delcroix and Egan-Riley as backup.
Sell McNally and Ekdal(think he said somewhere he wants to play)

Wouldn’t shock me if O’Shea or Esteve are deployed as full backs in certain games with the opposite full back playing higher up the pitch. Especially if Parker is looking to shore us up.

Beyer, Esteve, Ekdal and O’Shea have all been linked away from the club in recent weeks/months. As much as are well stocked with good centre halves for this level, I think it’s highly unlikely they all stay next season.warksclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 9:13 pmThat's why it was an option of mine to loan him out. Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Delcroix is a left footed centre half and can fill in at left back. Surely that gives us extra reason to keep him.
It seems like Ekdal is the odd one out to me, too many injuries.

We are spectacularly strong in this area. To say O’Shea is the only one to be proven at championship level is, to be honest, bizarre…Hipper wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 4:28 pmOur current centre backs are O'Shea, Beyer, Ekdal, Al-Dakhil, Delcroix, McNally.
