Chuffed for Watkins, great finish that. Harsh on the Dutch as England shouldn't have been level but they had their own chances to win it, they just haven't got any decent strikers.

Watkins made the striker run weve been screaming out for to turn the back line - fair play to Southgate ,

He could make his substitutions earlier. - but england are growing into this tournament. And the players do seem to be playing with a bit less weight on their shoulders

Delighted for Watkins there, you can see how much that means to him.

Now, if someone can do Kane between now and Sunday, that’ll be the cherry on the icing

An excellent finish from Watkins. We look a different team in the last two matches than at the start. Tailed off a bit second half but the subs worked.

That movement from Watkins is exactly what people have been crying out for and what a finish. Should have come on a bit earlier, but it doesn't matter now.

Credit where it is due we were superb first half and kept battling second half. Deserved the win even though the penalty wasn’t one.

Are the Dutch a major nation? Maybe, maybe not. But I have criticised Southgate for not beating a major nation in a finals (apart from a rebuilding Germany) and he should be praised for tonight.

It is better to be lucky than good. Last minute equaliser. Penalty shoot out. VAR atrocity in our favour. Last minute goal again.

Do I think we will beat Spain?

Yes.

Clearly England deserved to win the game , the Dutch did very little and successfully negated us in the second half to get a 50/50 after losing the first half easily.
We have shown we have some great match winners off the bench

I think Kane won't start due to the knock he got for the penalty he even commented about how he could feel it during his post match interview.

We will start the game with Kane obviously, more obviously he will be nothing more than a passenger and occasional penalty taker. We have to somehow overcome this obvious weakness.
We can still win this tournament with Kane starting because other teams have ragged it in the past. While Spain are superior by some distance we have those match winners on the bench.
The bottom line is that Southgate has to remain faithful to certain players in the squad despite there being better equipped players on the bench

Southgate hater here. I've hated his entire reign. I don't like him and -infinitely more importantly- I don't rate him. I think he's a bad manager with a great pick of players.

England were great tonight and Southgate played his cards well. Tonight.

Anyway, here's the point. I'm delighted.

I think it is enough to say two finals really. You have to get through quarter finals and semi finals anyway.

Southgate did excellently with his set up of the team in the first half and made a talented Netherlands side look very ordinary.

The second half was a little more Southgate modus operandi, where he struggled to adapt to Koemans changes, and I did find myself screaming at the TV when you could see Kane being totally ineffective (even when he was in the box). He even made Weghorst look mobile.

Thankfully he made the right changes and as I’ve already said I’m delighted for Olly Watkins.

Well done to Southgate though and I hope he finds a way to make Spain look equally as ordinary on Sunday.

nonsense, all I've seen people criticizing him for is not being pro-active with substitutions and today he was finally and credit to him for doing so. Watkins wasn't rocket science though was it ?

Let's hope they can somehow win it, I've said all along I think Southgate isn't a world class manager (because of the above reason) but he is a thoroughly decent bloke and a superb representative of the country.

First time I've seen a full 90mins of an England game this tournament I think. They were very good first half, Koeman did a job on them the 2nd and either side could have nicked the winner. I don't really get the hate for Southgate. Most international football is pretty boring on the whole but tournament football is cup football. Only the result matters and he keeps getting them.

I thought he had the choice between bringing on Watkins or Toney. He had brought on Toney before so for me Southgate gets great credit for his decision on Watkins

Can't we just enjoy the result? It's not a lot to ask, or are some of you so anal that the result is less important than your personal reaction to it?

You know what?... Fairplay Gareth!

When I saw Watkins coming on instead of Toney, I said to my mate, "interesting - I wonder if he's gone for Watkins for a bit more pace thinking that De Vrij & VVD could deal with the strength/power of Toney but not the speed of Watkins?"

What a sensational goal that was btw - one of the best finishes that I've seen in years!

Like an R9 finish that, just superb.

Don't get this whole "Southgate haters will be upset" lark

He's had very fair criticism this tournament. I'm no fan of his tactics and passive style but he and the players deserve great credit for digging in when the going got tough.

Also it has been a bit strange watching England win a quarter and semi final and each time a current Burnley player has played for the opposition

His teams are grinding out results, that’s what good teams do we always get told

The haters are whinging about everything whilst ignoring that fact

I’ve seen people state they’ll be annoyed if we win a trophy with this style of football, such is their irrational hatred of Southgate
