England ladies on ITV

Post by Tricky Trevor » Tue Jul 16, 2024 6:37 pm

Away to Sweden, need a point to qualify. 0-0 after 35mins.
A joy to watch after the last month. Progressive passing from back to front. Problem being the front 3 keep making poor choices. Just had first decent effort.

“A joy to watch”
You must be watching a different game to me, it’s shocking.

The overall standard may well be down compared to the men’s game, but tbf to the OP, he goes on to explain why he thinks it’s a joy to watch. I agree.

Just treat it as a separate sport, you don't compare mens tennis to womens tennis, or athletics or any other sport, if you try you can enjoy it for what it is.

women's footy still doesn't merit the coverage it has.

one day though.

The thing here is that it's not a separate sport.
Impossible not to make some sort of comparison

Do you watch the womens 100m Olympic Final and say ‘well that was crap compared to the mens’?

Comparison is not exclusively a negative thing.

Comparisons are only made when it's a traditional "men's" sport.

i don't.

do i win £5?

would you pay to go and watch an under 16s match up the prairie? that is pretty much the standard.

just because women's footy is far behind the men's game and folk point it out doesn't mean they're misogynistic. well at least i'm not.

Indeed it was. Could get crowds of 50K or more in the 1920s, more than the men's game at the time.

No, but mercifully the race doesn’t last for 90+ minutes. :?

If it did I probably would. 8-)

If the ladies 100m final took 90+ minutes I don't think anyone would be making comparisons at all

Only once. It was for an armed forces charity day on Boxing Day 2020 when there were no men's matches played. There was once another women's game that had a crowd of over 30k as well. But it wasn't the norm.

There were very few women's teams and no league structure, and whether the game would have taken off, we don't know. (Women's cricket didn't, and they had no ban on using men's facilities.)
