Hearing from a source that is respected that the agent of a player that we don't necessarily want to leave is getting on the 'ends' of some of the suits and theyre considering shifting him because of this.

Also hearing that you'll begin to see some fairly significant movement begin to take place from this week. I did get told this earlier today so assume he means that winger we're close to and Pires, but also fringe players heading out, of which Twine and McNally have things lined up.

Also hinted that a certain club interested in Berge baulked at the price and have enquired about the availability of another midfielder beginning with B instead....
Cant say you'll be needing a hearing aid any time soon

Beyer? The agent who’s getting on peoples’ wicks?

I didn’t say there wasn’t a medical today. I said if there wasn’t then maybe it was done on a previous day.
I know…..

You said “maybe he had his medical yesterday” and you got a ‘like’ from LongsideClaret so I assume that was the case.

Other people have been saying they have heard that there was a medical booked for today. So if this centre forward had his yesterday then is it possible that there actually was another medical booked today but for someone else, e.g. Hladky?

I know I’ll take a lot of flack for saying this, but I just don’t get all the adoration of Wilson Odobert. Sure, he’s an exciting winger on the ball, but, in the cold light of day, he has little end product. He went awol in many games last season.
His stats are as bad as those of Weghorst, if not worse.
Played 32
Goals 4
Assists 2
That’s hardly someone who is worth £20 million+

Missed one rather important stat out:

Date of birth: 28/11/2004

FWIW his stats are not too dissimilar to Dwight McNeil's at the same age, albeit Dwight was playing in a much better team

It would help if you consider the broader picture, such as Odobert's age, his playing position, and the team's significant difficulties last season. To say his stats are as bad or worse than Weghorst's is incomparable, and that's being kind. It's early days for Odobert but he clearly has lots of potential, and our club and other clubs that may be interested in buying him will obviously determine his value, but I hope we don't sell him for less than £20m because I believe he's worth more than that in an inflated market. What do you think the market would value him at? You clearly expected a negative reaction - it makes one wonder why you didn't question the validity of your claims before posting it.

Somehow didn’t get awarded the assists against Luton when he crossed for Amdouni or Fulham when he crossed for Fofana. So it really should be 4 and 4 which isn’t bad going. Then you’ve got the chances he put on a plate several times which players like Fofana and JBL missed. How can we check his end product statistically? Expected assists (xA) tells us he’s in the 66th quartile when compared to his peers across the league, so in the top third. Top 25% for ‘Shot creating actions’ in the league and no one carried the ball better than him in the entire league. Basically the stats suggest your claim he has no end product is false. And to do all of that (there’s more) in a poorly performing team, at 19 and in a new league, is exactly why the fee should be well above £20m.

Great post, RV.

I’d be interested to know Dwight’s first season stats and also Olise’s in the premier league to know if they were any better.

I mention these because those two went for £20m and €60m respectively so that’s the bracket.

The key point I don’t think some of our fans appreciate though (not aimed at the poster here - a general comment based on a season of comments claiming “we’ll be lucky to get our money back” on players) is that age and potential are such important factors in valuation.

Odobert is 19 and for me has the potential to achieve most in the game of any of our recent players. We should do all we can to keep him and sell him for an Olise-like fee, rather than a Dwight-type fee, which is probably closer to what we’d get now.

Took a look at a few videos of the new striker supposed to sign for us. Firstly the standard of football was very bad. And secondly he looked awkward … did not like his movement and the goals he scored … any league 2 striker would score them. Not impressed.

Nothing to do with me but the way you responded was suggestive of you thinking that Jakob had mentioned that you said there was no medical and I was pointing out that was not the case. If you read the post above the 1 you replied too again you will see it is just a basic question about it anyway not to worry.

According to transfermarkt:

Dwight: P21 (1,598 mins) G3 A5
Olise: P26 (1,135 mins) G2 A5
Odobert: P29 (2,108 mins) G3 A3

That’s why I’ll always believe in a pair of eyes from someone with a talent for scouting watching a player over stats any day of the week. I’m not impressed either, but like I’ve said previous, he will get my full support.

I haven't got a clue what you are on about to be honest.

Someone had posted that Hountodji had not had a medical yesterday (Tuesday) and all I did was post that maybe he'd had a medical before yesterday. Then again he could be having one today or tomorrow. That's it, nothing more, nothing less. Why it needs a debate when I was replying to someone I have no idea.

I didn’t want or expect it to be a debate if honest I won’t reply about it again after this, but for clarity this is the post from you that I replied to:

“I didn’t say there wasn’t a medical today. I said if there wasn’t then maybe it was done on a previous day.”

All I said was I think you misread as nobody at any point mentioned that you said there wasn’t a medical on that day. I guess you meant for Hountodji and not in general, as it looks, I was just trying to help, anyway keep up the good work.

Hoping we might see a bit of what Tresor did in his YouTube clips next season if he does end up sticking around. Not sure how happy he will be to be here but I'd be surprised if another club is happy to pay what is needed to recoup what we reportedly spent. Could see him go out on loan perhaps.

Not feeling quite as excited watching these new signings come in when compared to say VK's first summer. More looking forward to seeing who out of last seasons squad we can keep around.

That's a lot of money to pay to then loan straight back out. Unless a club pays us a ridiculous loan fee, I'd be surprised if we did that.

I think Houtondji looks decent in the clips personally. Shows a good degree of pace, scores a few headers (something we lack up top) and only 21. Getting 16 in 39 at that age at a relatively decent level is no mean feat. To put it into perspective, Georges Mikautadze had just scored 23 in that league at a year or two older and he has kicked on hugely since and seemed to exclusively be a striker. Houtondji seems to be someone we could maybe play as a 'wide forward' in a Tella style role if needed. Good price too, fits the model and we definitely were short up front (maybe we still are).

Seems to be a bit of a poacher and has a turn of pace. One or two of his goals looked to be a bit on the lucky side but he's still young still improving. I'm never sure about the level of D2, I reckon you're probably talking League One at best. I'd be surprised if he was to walk into the first team, more of a finisher from the bench I'd have thought as he gets used to the demands of Championship football. That might suit us if Jay Rod is starting games.

If the last two were spoken to last season we are still signing Kompany's players.

I don’t think that all of the previous signings we “Kompany players” and I don’t think we’ll see a change of strategy now he’s gone, which will prove that.

I think Parker has been signed because he was prepared to continue the clubs vision, which will revolve a lot around transfer approach, so I think we will all ultimately realise Kompany wasn’t the sole influence in our transfer policy.

I was thinking this, that these players may have already been in the pipeline before Kompany left.
Maybe the board have learned via Kompany what players we need to be going for and how to find them (stats).

I think you're right. The board have identified that player trading can be a great source of income, teams like Leicester have made plenty of money from it and it was part of the DNA of Salt Lake City where some of Alan Pace's associates cut their teeth. Buy cheap young potential sell the successful ones for big money, try and get your money back on the others. It'll be interesting to see if we break even or make a small profit on the likes of McNally, Obafemi and Twine. All of them are now Championship regulars which they weren't when we signed them.

It has to be a happy-medium though. Sell all your best players and fail to be promoted and overall, you can make less money.

The issue with the fringe players being Championship regulars means we'll probably lose money on them if sold. A Premier League side won't want them and let's say a Millwall, Preston or Stoke type Championship club wanted any of them they won't be able to afford the fee we initially paid, so they'd be shipped out on loan to get the wages off the books or sold at a cut price deal.

I suspect with Parker being ‘head coach’ he won’t have as much dealing with transfers.

I think you’re right. The first influx of players from the Belgian leagues were probably Kompany signings. It wouldn’t surprise me if everything after that was the recruitment team.

I'd be amazed if Parker signed up to have no say at all. It doesn't fit with his track record. He might not be identifying these signings but that's not to say they will be the case for all signings, or to say that even these have been forced on him. My guess is that if he'd strongly objected, he'd have had a veto.

Exactly. If he wasn't likely to work with any prospective signing it would be daft of the board to sign them
