It speaks volumes that there's a note on sky sports about the friendly but absolutely no mention on the official website.ArmchairDetective wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 12:26 amNew Burnley head coach Scott Parker is taking a close look at Scott Twine, with the 25-year-old having scored a 45 minute hat-trick in a behind-closed-doors friendly for the Clarets vs Barnsley.

It seems we, as fans, aren't being treated particularly well atm.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
It's just a training session, we don't publish the results of all training games, neither do other clubs, Celtic haven't and Utd didn't last season when we played them a couple of times, and I haven't seen anything from Barnsley regarding that game.burnley007 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 8:47 amDoes anyone know why this is being done?

Ah but don't tell that to the ones that want to consistently moan about our club about any little thing.

It might not be groundbreaking but it relates to the wider context of people writing players off already as dross and deadwood.

Granted, I wouldn't want to hear we'd lost every friendly, but I honestly couldn't care less about these behind close doors games.
It would have been nice to take the little ones on a home friendly against decent opposition before the season started but those days look to be gone

Fans upset because the manager wants to play some friendlies behind closed doors. They are training sessions and the club don’t have to publicise every detail. Just let them get on with preparing the squad. Think some people will just find anything to complain about or maybe have too much time on their hands.

There definitely will be deadwood unless we shift some on due to the sheer size of the squad. But not necessarily through lack of talent. I suppose my original point was that we can't assume to know who that will be. Parker might see things very differently to the last manager.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 9:54 amI don’t agree with the dross part but there is certainly deadwood at the club

Twine scores a hat-trick = Positive news
Get beat against lower league opposition = Meltdown
Best to keep the info to a minimum and treat them as they are, glorified training sessions.

If the regular contributor, who first brought up the 'dross' and 'deadwood' discussion wouldn't mind I'd be interested to see which players he thinks fit into which category. Again, I'll wait as I have before for a reply from him on a contentious issue.

I cant believe we have signed 5, and lost nobody, when the squad was already 10 men heavy.
15 players is a hell of a lot to place, and if we don't lose them we will have a very disgruntled squad.
The board have their own way of doing things, which is their right, often at the upset of the fans, but this situation makes no sense and if not sorted could impact our whole season.

A lot of the outgoing loans will no doubt come near the end of the window when other clubs have gaps to fill.

In years gone by we would have been hamstrung having to sell before we could buy, essentially meaning we missed out on targets as other clubs moved quicker.
Our transfer business so far has been nothing short of impressive in terms of speed and efficiency and not reliant on other clubs.
Parker can assess who we want to keep and who can go based on who we have managed to recruit.
As already suggested on here it seems next week is expected to be the exodus after Parker has run the rule and taken advice from his coaches on the players already here.
Mike Jackson, I assume, will have a big say on who stays and who goes?

Berge shouldn't be leaving at all, unless it's silly money.
I wouldn't want an unhappy player, but the length of his contract and his importance to the starting XI.......
We have players we know won't start. Players that are good, but not at a level where they may make the leap to the Prem. These players should be up for sale. If we can make even a small profit at least it will have been worthwhile. The wages our inflated squad is costing the club must be well outside our P&S limit

No need to see pre season, just let SP assess the players and then move on those he doesn’t want. Once they have gone it will be looking good to me.

Lots to leave both loan and perm but it’s not a bad idea for sp to see what he has first, in fact it’s pretty sensible.

Roberts struggled to get a gig in that Leeds team so I don’t think that was ever really a goer.
Seems a good deal for Leeds and I’m surprised Blades are selling him to them.

5m for Bogle is an excellent price IMO. Effectively a champ to champ transfer and defenders always tend to go for less. I bet we’re asking for less than half of that for Roberts. I can see him joining Swansea on loan towards the end of the window for peanuts.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Yeah don’t disagree on the fee. I do wonder if they may keep aim to keep Roberts here given our lowish homegrown numbers.FeedTheArf wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2024 9:39 am5m for Bogle is an excellent price IMO. Fair point. But you’d think us signing Sambo and extending Vitinho at the start of last season would mean we were always looking to move Roberts out. I do think we need a good core of British players in the squad so I’d be hoping to increase the home grown numbers anyway once we can start to move some squad players on.

What is Parker's go-to formation, was it 4-2-3-1 for Bournemouth and Fulham?
He may see Roberts as an option for the right of the 3, further forward.

I would bet he is pulling his hair out, unless there are clear 'no sell' agreements with the chairman.
Otherwise he could be making decisions, based on certain key players, who disappear overnight!

He’s had a few loans now. Maybe it’s time to step up. I’m sure he could cover left back and play a handful of games at this level with good players around him.

If he's being counted as a player coming in (and it looks like Colburn did) you've got to count him as one going out too.

He does for me - there has been an identical one at Millwall with Shaun Hutchinson released and then re-signed. I've included both on the transfers thread.

Just looking at Hladký's playing history and it seems that he only really got his shot with Ipswich last year when their starting goalkeeper picked up an injury and then he performed so well he stayed in for the duration of the season..
I honestly feel like there's so, so many players like that out there. Come into the game in slightly unorthodox ways, don't have a reputation so always need an opportunity somewhere, often through good fortune, to show what they can do on the big stage.
