Home Grown Players
do we have the 7 or 8 who need to be named in the squad of 20 for each match if this is the rule?

Re: Home Grown Players
Last season's only homegrown were the following:
Brownhill, Joshua
Cork, Jack Frank Porteous
Cullen, Joshua Jon
Muric, Arijanet Anan
O'Shea, Dara
Obafemi, Michael
Redmond, Nathan Daniel Jerome
Roberts, Connor
Rodriguez, Jay Enrique
Taylor, Charles James
Given that three have gone (so far)...

Re: Home Grown Players
Think it’s 7 in the matchday squad.
Out of those CT listed above you could make a case we could only see 5 of them.
Cullen, Redmond, O’Shea, Brownhill, Rodriguez.
Wonder if this is a factor for keeping the likes of Twine and Roberts.

Re: Home Grown Players
I can count Trafford O'Shea Brownhill Rodders,Roberts RedmondCullen Twine and Obafemi as 8 from 9 the other 3 are under 21 1/1/24 and so do not need to be named in the squad of 25 which means we are running close to the wind should one or more of those 9 leave and we do need to cut the size of our present 37 players albeit 5 aye under 21 as of 1/1/24. We would need to waste a slot by naming one of the three under 21. Given rumours of Trafford, O Shea Brownhill Roberts and Twine having interest from other clubs without signing home grown players we may struggle to be legal when the 25 have to be named

Re: Home Grown Players
It's a simple case that a club at our level will be fully aware of the rules and will ensure we are within them. Who is and isn't here now isn't relevant, it comes into play when the window closes and the squads have to be named.

It just shows the difference in the club in the last 2 years that this is even a consideration now.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 2:52 pmIt means we will ensure the squad includes enough home grown players when the window closes at the beginning of September.
I was all for us exploring the foreign markets but didn't envisage it would be to this extent.

Re: Home Grown Players
Me neither - Pace did an interview before he took over and said he wanted to build a young, mainly British squad. Not sure what happened, but that's not the path we've gone down.FeedTheArf wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 3:24 pmIt just shows the difference in the club in the last 2 years that this is even a consideration now.

Re: Home Grown Players
Tony do you know how many keepers they normally include in the match day squad? If it’s 3 I think we could add Charlie Casper to the list as I think he will end up being third choice come the end of the transfer window.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 2:15 pmTrafford

Re: Home Grown Players
I think there is no doubt that VK influenced a complete change in ideas
Re: Home Grown Players
...And that legacy remains in abundance!
Re: Home Grown Players
Thus far we have had 5 leave the club and five arrived plus signed two on loan player in Tresor and Esteve. We remain with a squad over 21 yrs of age of 33 which means to get down to 25 and strengthen the squad 9 need to go out on loan or be sold. We would then have room for one signing. Wout will be a certainty to leave but then it is likely to be any 8 from 24 given JBG, Tresor Esteve and the four recent signings and Jay who I think signed until 2025 wont be leaving.

Re: Home Grown Players
They don’t have to leave, they can just be excluded from the squad. There are over six weeks to go yet, not even worth looking at until the window is closed.mdd2 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2024 12:27 pmThus far we have had 5 leave the club and five arrived plus signed two on loan player in Tresor and Esteve. I realise that CT but would that not really lead to an unhappy disgruntled group of players?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2024 12:32 pmThey don’t have to leave, they can just be excluded from the squad. There are over six weeks to go yet, not even worth looking at until the window is closed.

Probably a bit naive and hadn't realised the costs involved in comparison to young players from abroadClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 3:28 pmMe neither - Pace did an interview before he took over and said he wanted to build a young, mainly British squad. It's not like we we were signing young British players under Pace in the windows before VK either. More likely he was just lying.

Re: Home Grown Players
Aaron Lennon came back in summer 2021 I think. But literally just one young British signing in those windows. Then two in summer 2022 and two in summer 2023. Amidst a total of roughly one million signings.
Re: Home Grown Players
I'd guess a bit of both. If he really was intending to go for young English players when we'd been relegated then we'd have had a very expensive or a very small squad.
Twine for example probably cost more than Benson and Zaroury combined, Harwood Bellis would have cost a fortune and let's not get started on Trafford.
Kompanys plan was probably more realistic and it should have worked well if he hadn't just lost his mind last summer. We could have stayed up quite easily.

Wayne Entwistle, now there’s a blast from the past. Watched him at Bury in the Dobson, scored a lot of goals but was generally hopeless.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2024 1:34 pmThree windows before Kompany

He signed Weghorst, Cornet and tried everything to get Orsic as well in his first season. It didn't suggest he was looking for primarily young English players

How on earth have I come up with Entwistle when I meant Hennessey. I can’t even blame that one on predictive texting.

Re: Home Grown Players
Thankfully just a short term loan for us was Entwistle at the start of the Orient season. Mind you, what followed was worse.
Re: Home Grown Players
unless you went on with friends you often needed a megaphone to chat to a fellow spectator that season.According to CT's brilliant records of our stats since 1947 over the 22 games before the Orient game we averaged crowds of 2803. `Thanks to the 15000+ game 23 average 3364. Dont think I felt so low as a BFC supporter as I was when I left Gresty Road earlier that week.
Re: Home Grown Players
At least we averaged almost 1.5pts per home game slightly better than the miserable 0.5pts/game at home last season

Re: Home Grown Players
Dreadful journey home on the coach that night which led to almost five horrendous days as a Burnley fan. I don’t ever want to go through anything like that again and hope no Burnley fan ever has to.
