Oculus quest 2

Post by tarkys_ears » Thu Mar 24, 2022 9:37 pm

Has anyone got one? I've got a question.

Just bought one for a tike but I've just started to wonder how it's powered.

I believe the handsets are run on AA batteries but what about the unit itself? I've bought a USB c cable for when using it on the pc but how does it work standalone?

Cheers

Sons have one need to have a good usb C cable although it does have air link (wireless) which once connected is good, it should have a USB c plug as well to charge.
Handsets do use AA batteries the compartment isn’t easy to get into though. Stand-alone you are stuck with the games on the quest itself my sons do both happily.

So the headset comes with a chargeable battery in it?

Great bit of kit, had the first then upgraded to the second.

Would definitely recommend the pro strap I think it’s called.

Some of the games on the store are a bit lacking but I’ve managed to side load a fair few really good ones.

Superhot and Moss are probably my 2 favourite games.

Yeah it has a rechargeable battery, isn’t the best though, I sometimes use it with a portable power pack in my pocket.

A bit expensive but the pro strap is a good purchase I think it helps it all sit better in your head as well. I have turned into Johnny 2 shits but my son has that as well only thing with it is if you connect to a pc using the cable it can’t connect to the strap it must still go in the headset it self. We got one with a case as well.

Just bumping this instead of starting a new thread, as I've been looking at the Quest 3.

Has anybody used both Quest 2 and 3 who can give feedback on the difference?

If you can afford the Quest 3 then I'd defo go for that one. Much improved processing power and also offers a very good passthrough experience. This means that you can play certain mixed reality games with the Quest 3. The Quest 2 doesn't have great passthrough, but is still a great VR headset in its own right

As others have mentioned, it is powered by a usb C cable. The headset battery is built into it. So as long as you have a decent usbC charging cable you should just be able to plug it into a power socket and charge it up.

Point to note is that not all usb C cables are equal. The official link cable that you play standalone PC VR games off your quest does both, but some cables won't work with Oculus link as they are specifically for charging, so keep an eye out for that.
