I've also used the full names of the clubs in these tables to show when changes were made - for example The Wednesday to Sheffield Wednesday, Burslem Port Vale to Port Vale and Woolwich Arsenal to Arsenal.
Also Birmingham were just Birmingham until the 1940s when they added City to their name.

Big mistake but not by you CT. Bl***y Arseholes promoted to Division 1 in 1919 when expanded to 22 clubs finished 5th in league 2 in 1914-15 season behind Wolves Barnsley PNE and Derby County. Spurs and Chelsea were the 20th and 19th clubs at bottom of Division 1. Only Spurs were relegated Chelsea stayed up PNE Derby and Arseholes promoted and that cheating club has been in the top flight ever since. Appalling decision by the FL in 1919

Chelsea were given 21st place because of the cheating that went against them on the last day of 1914-15 season and then there was a number of teams lobbying for the 22nd place which was voted on and Arsenal got 18 votes, Spurs 8, Barnsley 5, Wolves 4... You could argue that the cheats of 1914-15, Manchester United and Liverpool should have been replaced by Wolves and Barnsley - United would have gone instead of Chelsea and Liverpool kicked out for match fixing...

Re: ARTICLE: Pre-War Clarets – the league tables
Such an important addition to the site, there are so many stories surrounding those early League tables particularly from the "Halley, Boyle & Watson" era. Just look at the table for 1920/21....We were Champions of Division One and conceded a mere 36 goals over that 42 game season.
Now looking forward to the results for the same period, many thanks for all the hard work.

The results are going to take some time but I'm up to the end of 1895/96 now.Royboyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2024 4:24 pmSuch an important addition to the site, there are so many stories surrounding those early League tables particularly from the "Halley, Boyle & Watson" era. The table for 1895/96 shows us finishing in 10th place in Div.1 just one place ahead of Bury in 11th.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2024 4:59 pmThe results are going to take some time but I'm up to the end of 1895/96 now.
Next season Bury feature on Padiham's fixture list, different directions over the years for the two clubs.
