Re: Olympics 2024
Didn’t watch the opening ceremony, but browsing the socials it seems to have triggered the snowflakes.
Re: Olympics 2024
Cannot argue with this either. I thought at one point they had merged Paris “Pride” into the Olympics opening ceremony.
No wonder young children are confused.

I’ve not seen such outrage since the England kit launch.

Re: Olympics 2024
According to Facebook, it looks like a cousin of mine spent last night watching over four hours of TV that only made him very angry. It's like someone strapped him to a chair and took away the TV remote. In reality, though, I think h just likes getting angry at stuff. It's like a form of depression where he never looks for the positives.
Now, my take on opening ceremonies is this - they are too long and large parts are boring, but at least Paris utilised its main landmarks. Using the Seine to introduce the teams was a novel idea. I thought the parkour thing fine. The silver horse galloping on the Seine was impressive, and so was the Eiffel Tower light show and the balloon cauldron. But all in all, too long, as always. Then again, there were other channels available and a whole host of streaming services, unless you were strapped into a chair with no remote...

I saw two minutes of it, got a bit bored and went to do something else. Pleased for everyone who enjoys that sort of stuff, ditto the Olympics in general.

Re: Olympics 2024
Some of it was good.
But afraid my attention was lost with it all quite a lot.
I'm happy for the opening stuff to be a parade around the nain arena & then just get on with it.

Re: Olympics 2024
Concur with this. I did not have strong feeling apart from feeling like I had wasted 4 hours of my life. But if I were a fervent Christian I would have been deeply offended by the Last Supper sketch (which looked like a weird trans comic **** take version of it). Any other religion there wouldn’t just have been uproar, but riots. Simply no need and I’m not one to label things offensive, we do too much of that, but it was.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 12:08 pmOpening ceremony was a bit weird but nobody really cares about opening ceremonies.
Celine Dion belting out Edith Piaf in front of the Eiffel Tower was pretty special though.
Looking forward to some of the other minor sports, just hope Discovery + works ok.

This is fine, but when they have secrecy as to who is performing, and a family whom insist on waiting up for Dua Lipa (who didn’t appear in the end) we have fewer choicesClovius Boofus wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 1:44 pmAccording to Facebook, it looks like a cousin of mine spent last night watching over four hours of TV that only made him very angry. Completely bizarre and incredibly woke opening ceremony. Let’s hope the games are better.

Re: Olympics 2024
I'm assuming that the use of "woke" here is the label used lazily to describe anything that supports the inclusion of different races, gender, disability and so on in a global sporting event.ClaretCliff wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 3:21 pmHow can you say it’s not woke and in the same sentence say that you don’t know what woke means???
I may be wrong, the term is used so much it's damn near a cliche.
Much easier , if you're that way inclined, to be honest and say you don't like blacks, the disabled, homosexuals and so on and they have no part to play in an opening ceremony.

To be fair they'll do some throwing, riding swimming and fighting too, so there's more variety than with the Winter Olympics... That's just different varieties of sliding.claret2018 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2024 1:43 pm

Overlooking the obvious oversight( Riley humour is great) I'd say Jesus would be welcoming of anything that highlighted that we all need to be kind to those who for too long have been considered outcasts.
I'm sure I've read today that the organisers were ok if things shocked. I'm a Christian and if people want to mock I'm ok with that. It's about time Christianity got on the front pages.

Re: Olympics 2024
Bout time all religious cults got over themselves.
Time to acknowledge science, ecology and nature and admit that we were all hoodwinked as children into 'religion'.
Probably the base for all educated people to keep the 'population' down and at the same time, facilitate organised pedophile rings to flourish.
There, I've said it. Most people know it but prefer to remain in denial.
I do feel sorry for all the genuine, dedicated personnel who do their very best to protect and guide young people through their early years. Thankfully many young people survive and sometimes escape traumatic experiences. Sadly many don't.
