The one a few years earlier after we'd qualified for Europe was worse
Have to agree, we missed our opportunity to strengthen in that window when we were arguably more attractive than ever from the outside.
To me last years recruitment looked to be a “ get them whilst we can” attitude for quite a few. As if we’d put the feelers out and decided to sign players before their prices may have gone out of our reach.
On that list I’d include : Odobert, Amdouni and Ramsey, probably Tresor too.
On the face of it Amdouni came off the back of being the top scorer in a European competition albeit the third tier comp, but his stock will have risen.
Tresor , player of the year in Belgium, 24 assists etc.
Ramsey, decent loan at Boro at the end of the season impressing.
Odobert, highly rated and emerging talent, turned out to be one of the better performers for us.
You can see why they’d be attracted to them especially for resale value - however they don’t always work, certainly not all in their first seasons and to add to that , if you don’t strengthen the areas of the squad that you actually need that’s when you get the lob sided squad that we created.
Time will tell on the signings but I’d guess that both Tresor and Amdouni will move on from this selection, probably Odobert too.
I would love to see Amdouni Will a little more bite and work rate because I think he’d then develop in to a fine player .
