If it was based on attendances then I reckon the richest would be playing the poorest this weekend
Who are East Lancs playing?

Sure, but that would be as relevant to the discussion as how well Lowerhouse do at hiring out their facilities for Birthdays, christenings etc and their Bonfire. Its either a cricket debate or it isnt
I would class that as Lowerhouse doing great things for the community too.

As a longstanding supporter Tony you must be scratching your head as to where everyone is at the BooHoo. Must be dispiriting to see and especially so when they have a good team to watch?
It’s a long, long time since I went although I was on the pitch last year having a drink with my friends from Spurs when we played them.

But for over forty years I saw some really good cricket there, watched some good players and some outstanding professionals as well as making lifelong friends. And they used to attract big crowds.

Yes, I used to mock Lowerhouse but for most of those years I’ve had good friends who support them and it’s just friendly banter.

Can’t mock them now. The likes of Stan Heaton and Dave Wren in particular made sure of that.

In any case, my vitriol was always really saved for East Lancs.

Thought it'd be worth creating a new thread as last weeks descended into chaos.

Burnley vs Lowerhouse on Sunday

Predictions?
Didn't take long for this new thread to go down the same route as the previous one!

Some excellent, thoughtful comments and banter - and some that don't try to even dream of attaining that standard

Two very well run clubs, both playing to their strengths to continue competing at the top end of the league. Two grounds where you can go and chat to anyone and have a great afternoon out. I’d much rather the league stay in burnley than be won by another team.

Sadly there’s a very small minority of House fans, who whenever I state I’m a burnley fan, flick a switch and can only say certain sentences “No fans”, “You’d be nothing with the football next door” , “We’re a proper club”. These people strangely seems to be the older end of fans.

Hoping for clear skies at the weekend and a food match for all.

And 12 points for Burnley!

Unfortunately it is only to be expected when the same people keep throwing the same unfounded accusations around without any sort of substance...all in the name of p*ss poor banter..or so they will claim........probably.

When living in the town I would occasionally go and watch Burnley but this was back in the late 80s and early 90s. The people I would go with never mentioned Lowerhouse. When in town on a matchday the ones in our group who go Lowerhouse also seem to manage to talk about Lowerhouse with a seemingly odd obsession with Burnley.

The constant mentions on here about crowds is dull also, I thought it was just Leeds who banged on about crowds and it is never a good luck to be in the same category as them. The comments about masks being needed do they use them when attending the football or do the manage to overcome the same thoughts when being in the same footprint ?

Does Lowerhouse have a football team ? If so makes me wonder why they don't support them instead, if not perhaps one should be formed for them to follow. There are probably some who would rather have Darwen win the league than Burnley. To an outsider it looks a very weird way to be.

I would imagine Burnley will try and produce as dry, dusty a wicket as possible to try and nullify the Lowerhouse superior batting line up and to suit their spinners and make it a low scoring game.

I think Burnley has a better bowling unit, and Lowerhouse a better batting unit so if I was the home captain I'd want a pitch that suited our strengths for sure..

I didn't think you'd find a bigger set of whingers in cricket than Australian fans....a year on, they're still whinging about a ball change..... but some of these lowerhouse fans take it to another level.

They're well balanced though, they've got a chip on both shoulders.

PS - Burnley get their revenue from the football, to provide cricketing facilities for the community to play cricket. It's not hard to understand is it?

Stockport.

you can keep saying "stockport", nobodies taking you on.

it's all fun and games, no need for people to get so uptight about it. Sure it'll be a lovely game on Sunday, just hope they've got enough Bar staff on, be a good work out for them ready for the footy

A Lowerhouse win will pretty much hand the title to Darwen which will no doubt please many on here. A Burnley win will pretty much ensure a 2 horse race for the title which will please the rest of us

Always thought there's an element of disrespect from LH supporters towards Burnley CC, and probably some jealousy too given the relative overall historic success of the 2 clubs. This willy waving 'we've got more fans than you' is particularly tedious and irrelevant - we take the p1ss out of Leeds fans for this when it's football so some double standards here. Both clubs have some very good players and are having excellent seasons so fingers crossed the weather holds. I'll be hoping for a Burnley win of course, but if it came down to a league title for either Darwen or LH, I don't think any Burnley supporters would be rooting for Darwen, whilst several LH fans seem to have an 'anybody but Burnley' attitude. Very strange.

We did our bit in attempting to stop the title going to Darwen last week. This week we will be attempting to prevent it going to Burnley whilst in the meantime keeping our own aspirations alive.
That is the nature of competition.
....but yes we will let you win just so it doesn't go to a Blackburn based team

Funny. That is exactly how i feel the other way round. Constant belittlement and snide accusations and the tropes you accuse LH fans of stem from this.
More fans? Used to point out that LH is a club rooted in its community to counter this nonsense.
I couldn't care less how Burnley do personally as long as we do better. I couldn't care less if Darwen or Burnley win the league. It's cricket not football. I don't hate Darwen CC as much as i don't hate Burnley CC.

It can't always have been this bitter between the clubs, as plenty of players have played for both clubs.

For some much needed neutrality here -

I played for Burnley up to 2nd team and throughout the age groups as it was the closest team to where I lived - but I will always be thankful to and have deep admiration to Lowerhouse CC for hosting a summer kwik cricket camp back in the early 00s that gave me and many other youngsters their first real introduction into cricket, many of which also went on to playing for their schools/districts and joined other clubs.

Bit of banter is fine of course but there's a bit of an edge which is a bit too far, imo.

This edge is only on here though I find. I have never encountered it at the actual games. The only issue being the Burnley groundsman getting a little carried away (an understatement) with his banter and throwing abuse at female House supporters. Not entirely sure if it was alcohol induced with him surely needing to be on duty (although he may have delegated). He certainly had quite a mouth on him. A Burnley fan sitting nearby was that disgusted with him that he reported him to a committee member and we were informed later that he'd had a stern dressing down. I know that can happen anywhere when alcohol has been consumed and the game is at a tense finish and it certainly isn't a Burnley thing.
I don't find Burnley fans gobby at the games. The same can't be said of Clitheroe (perhaps with reason) and Walsden in particular.
It certainly looks like the players of both clubs get on well and there is a few friendships there and that can't always be said with regards to other clubs.
As I've said many times now the snide accusations really don't help on here.

Having played at Burnley CC for over 40 years 3rds through to the 1st team albeit mostly spent in the twos and having served as Junior Chairman, Director and Committee man at Burnley I find this “toxic” rivalry that seems to have sprung up in recent years rather sad…without trying to point score Burnley were always the “premier” Lancashire League team in the town, a fact borne out by the number of league championships and cup wins since the formation of the League BUT I have a large number of friends at Lowerhouse, friendships made over the years due to the competitive nature of local cricket derbies….always a beer to be had after the game though and cricket played the right way….what Lowerhouse have achieved over the last twenty or so years is absolutely fantastic, from a club house and changing rooms completely transformed from what they were to a top class facility for both seniors and juniors and a highly competitive team full of top cricketers…that’s down to the hard work of “House” stalwarts like Stan, Frank, the late David Wren, this forums own Hopey and many others who’ve absolutely removed the “Cinderella” tag from the club…I obviously want Burnley to win the League but even as a die hard Burnley CC fan I absolutely DO NOT want a Darwen or other out of town club to win the league so if it’s not Burnley I’m quite happy for Lowerhouse to edge it….to those on here making digs, cut it out and let’s hope for decent weather, a dry turning pitch for Baz and Ocky to upset the House power hitters, and 12 points to Burnley 😉

Here here.

To be fair, I did wonder what I had started - only asked for predictions

Doesn't take much for a thread on here to descend into chaos though.

There was no chance Hopey. From post 3 the CPCC fans were giving it large and thus it descended.

..and it's they who say it's a one way rivalry

I think they are trying to gaslight us personally.

Tell us more about number of fans, bar takings bar mtzvahs and birhtdays, scarce resources, bonfires and behaviour of Burnley employees / volunteers

So we can keep laughing at the small time mentality of it all.

We all drink together under the Burnley FC banner, we have the banter but it has become slightly vitriolic with snipes at BCC of late, turning into obsessions. Firstly, as the CPCC, what does that actually mean? LH has more support so what it wasn't always the case. I was in India with a LH fan who told me LH has the largest support of any amateur cricket. We enjoyed the crack as it can't be true or is it? No one want Darwen to win the League or do they? Come on boys let's enjoy the cricket.

What snipes at BCC? It has seemed pretty one way in terms of unfounded sniping

I'll bet that was my Dad or Dave (Ted), they travel to a lot.

I won't get involved in all this crap, it's just your usual gobshites on the wind up.

I'll have the craic with Ken, Niall (crustycrouton) and Cronny on match day and one of my best pals is a Burnley fan who posts on here now and again.
