Re: Olympics 2024
I haven’t read the entire thread, but did any of the transphobes complaining that the female* boxer doesn’t look feminine enough for them because they’re so concerned about the safety of women and girls have anything to say about the actual convicted child rapist being allowed to compete on the Dutch volleyball team? Or does violence against women and girls not count when it’s perpetrated by cis men?
*The IOC does not allow someone whose passport states they are a man to compete in a women’s event and, unsurprisingly, current Algerian law does not permit anyone to legally change the gender they were assigned at birth.

Re: Olympics 2024
I rarely post these days, but as I have posted today, I must salute the great Andy Murray.
My favourite sportsman of all time and no-one has given me more pleasure or agony. Watched every ball today - he is obviously a shadow of his former self after all the injuries and the latest back surgery at least gave him the clarity to call it a day. Went down fighting to the end as always.
Great player, great bloke.

For some reason a lot of people want this to be a trans issue but she was born a girl and is just cis woman with higher than average testosterone.
Re: Olympics 2024
OK
Re: Olympics 2024
I guess it will surprise few that Greenmile does not understand the boxing issue today. It's actually nothing to do with trans issues. To be fair, he is far from alone and the media have a lot to answer for. For years the media has reported on athletes such as Caster Semenya as being "female athletes with elevated testosterone levels". This lie is what has led to this situation today with a male boxer punching a woman as Olympic Sport. Obviously it is not Semenya's fault to be born with a DSD and you cannot blame Semenya for having the incorrect sex recorded at birth. It gets murky after that, as whilst I suspect Semenya was manipulated by cynical South African sporting interests, Semenya cannot be absolved of all blame as a mature adult in possession of the facts. It is a known publicly disclosed fact that Semenya is male and went through male puberty producing normal male levels of testosterone and all other male sporting power advantages given by male puberty.
The link posted by Zickov with the latest IOC statement all but confirms that the Algerian boxer is male. It is also consistent with the quote provided by Greenmile if accurate. The IOC is stating that as far as they are concerned a passport stating that someone is female is all they need. Just incredible. Semenya is male but had a female passport. It seems beyond any significant doubt now that the Algerian is in the same boat. Male punching power is an off the scale different level to females. It is truly astonishing that the IOC is happy to put women in danger like this and it must surely be a turning point as day of infamy in the Olympic Games?
As Judy Murray, Sharron Davies and many others have stated this is a very easy fix with a swab test to confirm a competitor's sex. It is not intrusive (cheek swab), takes less than a minute and only needs to be done once in a person's life.

I’m pretty sure it isn’t a “known publicly disclosed fact that Semenya is male”, btw. She still identifies as a female, was born with a vagina, and is legally female. She may be intersex, but her gender is, and always has been, female. As I say, though, it’s complicated.
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2023/ ... rent-woman
Still no comment on the guy who raped a 12 year old girl, I see. It’s almost like protecting women and girls isn’t your primary driver here.
Fwiw, I’d ban all types of boxing. I fail to see the value in watching people hit each other, male, female, or any combination. I appreciate I may be in the minority view on that point, though. As you might have guessed, I’m happy to concede I don’t know much about boxing issues today.
I know a transphobe when I see one, though. They’re the ones who used to tell me that if you’re born with a penis you’re a man and if you’re born with a vagina, you’re a woman. They seem to have changed their opinions in this particular case though, for some reason.

I'm not sure that people need to declare that they are against 12 year old girls being raped. Surely that's the orthodox view by normal folk?
You would assume men beating up women would be the same, but apparently that's up for debate

Re: Olympics 2024
Wait, so you’re telling me the sex and gender assigned to them at birth were wrong? Like Elliot Page or Dylan Mulvaney, to pick another couple of examples off the top of my head.
Re: Olympics 2024
I'd prefer we use scientific analysis whenever there is doubt, which is the case here.
As stated above, its really easy to prove
Re: Olympics 2024
Both the child-rapist and the “not feminine enough” female boxer have been allowed to compete at the Olympics. The IOC are only being criticised for the latter. Seems a bit hypocritical to me, is all, particularly for people whose sole concern is the safety and well-being of women and girls.
Re: Olympics 2024
Have the IOC not been criticised for allowing a rapist to compete?Greenmile wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 10:43 pmBoth the child-rapist and the “not feminine enough” female boxer have been allowed to compete at the Olympics. I don't watch much news and I thought there had been quite a bit of fuss about it
Re: Olympics 2024
"Not feminine enough" isn't a category in the Olympics sorry. There are male and female events
Re: Olympics 2024
But loads of people have told me that if you’re born with a penis you’re a man and can never be a woman. I always presumed this to mean that if you’re born with a vagina, you’re a woman and can never be a man.
You’re not telling me it’s a bit more complicated than that, are you??
Re: Olympics 2024
Have you tried the search function?
I'd imagine a thread debating if they should allow a child rapist to compete would slip down the board quite quickly after multiple replys of "I agree"
Re: Olympics 2024
No. Finally we agree on somethingGreenmile wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 10:52 pmBut loads of people have told me that if you’re born with a penis you’re a man and can never be a woman. I always presumed this to mean that if you’re born with a vagina, you’re a woman and can never be a man.

Re: Olympics 2024
Sorry Greenmile but you are way out of your depth here.
It really isn't complicated and the Guardian article is a good example of the nonsense that sportswomen have had to put up with. As disappointing as it might be for you, I can reiterate with 100% certainty that Semenya is male. Not female and not intersex. The specific DSD that Semenya was born with has been disclosed and it ONLY affects males. It results in internal testes at birth but details about genitals don't really add to the conversation. The point is that Semenya is male had a male puberty, normal male testosterone levels and so on. It is perhaps worth noting that many people born with DSDs (whether male or female) are not at all happy about being labelled as "intersex" and find the misnomer insulting.
Not sure how much more it is worth adding for you as you seem to be resolutely fact resistant!

What are we agreeing on? That sex and gender aren’t binary? That it’s possible to transition from one to another? That trans women are women?
Here’s something I think we can definitely agree on. That Algerian lady shouldn’t have been allowed to punch that Italian lady in the face. But then again I don’t think Chris Eubank should have been lowed to punch Michael Watson either. In fact, I think boxing should be banned completely. If repeatedly heading a football results in a massively increased risk of dementia in ex-footballers, surely being repeatedly punched in the head would cause similar problems, only more so.
Re: Olympics 2024
You’re one of the people who told me that being born with a penis makes you irrevocably male, btw.android wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 10:59 pmSorry Greenmile but you are way out of your depth here.

Re: Olympics 2024
I'm looking forward to the "everyone is identical" Olympics where the results will be a predictable draw for every event and everyone gets a medal for not losing, but I guess someone will complain about that too.
AAAAAaaaaannnndddd back to the actual Olympics where the running and stuff starts today so we can see people who were genetically disposed to be better than me in order to run faster and be the best at what they do. I want a medal though, because life's not fair to me. Anyone spare me a Gold...? no, I'll take a Bronze...

The British lad was more of a whingebag...him getting p1ssed on was the down to the course design and his millions of injuries and bad luck.
Still not sure why they use kiddies bikes though.

Then the Mixed 4 x 100m Medley Relay heats around 11am.

Shame about the rowing, pipped at the post but great effort and a silver regardless.
Got to hand it to the French, I thought the games would be a bit of a shitshow after the flat opening ceremony - but they've done a fantastic job so far.

Must be exhausting having such a bitter outlook on things. Anyway, you've made your feelings clear (not that anyone asked) so no point filling up the thread with your negativity from here on.
Next Brit up for a potential medal for those actually interested;
"Bryony Page stunned the field when she took the first Olympic trampoline medal in Britain’s history, silver in 2016. She added bronze in Tokyo and has won two of the past three world titles, setting up on more bid for gold aged 33 before she pursues her dream of joining the acrobats at Cirque du Soleil. Qualifying is at 11:00 before the final at 12:50."

Trampolining might not be for everyone, but it certainly takes a lot more skill than sitting around whining about "wokeness". But if grumbling about the world keeps you entertained, who am I to judge? Just try not to get too red-faced and winded—wouldn’t want you to pull a muscle!
