Having decided I needed to read it before finishing my trilogy, just finished it. Well done Evan, I loved the fast paced action which kept me interested.
I discovered I have also read another of yours, Trans Mission! Another good read from memory too.

Just done!
Re: The Claret Pals - a crime thriller
Hi TC just received the book and to my amazement the first 2 words are: Mario Spiteri - a typical Maltese surname! When England played Malta way back in the 70s, the English press was awash with comments on our players being "Maltese waiters". Hope you haven't got the cue from there
Joking apart the "waiters" tag couldn't be further from the truth nowadays as our catering establishments are full of foreign catering staff and a Maltese waiter has become as rare as an ice-cream in hell.
Up to chapter 7 so far and liking it, but too early to comment fairly.

Thank you jtv. I did research Maltese surnames when writing the book! I hope you enjoy the remainder of the book as much as others seem to have done.jtv wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2024 5:10 pmHi TC just received the book and to my amazement the first 2 words are: Mario Spiteri - a typical Maltese surname! Myself and one of the group the book is based on have just finished recording a No Nay Never podcast special about The Claret Pals. Listen out for it next week.
Re: The Claret Pals - a crime thriller
Book finished, absolutely loved it despite it not being my usual genre, it really keeps you enthralled. I've given it a 5 star Amazon review.
It could easily be adapted for a TV crime drama.

Having lived in Kent for over 50 years ( Herne Bay, Ramsgate and Broadstairs ) I wonder whether our paths may have crossed travelling to and from Burnley. Did you ever get involved with the London Clarets? I retired to Rochdale 8 years ago and surprisingly enough I love it here !! Good luck with the book, I am looking forward to reading it.
Just finished the book, in record time for me ! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I must admit, my travels from Kent to Burnley with the London Clarets in the mid seventies and beyond, whilst being good fun, were fairly dull by comparison….thank goodness! I look forward to reading the sequel.
Re: The Claret Pals - a crime thriller
Enjoying the book. Being picky I know but page 205 should it be ‘will we play ….rovers’ rather than ‘till we play’?

Re: The Claret Pals - a crime thriller
Hi Carport, thanks for reading the book. You're quite right, 'will' would be the correct word, but I did a survey at away matches of what fans actually sang, and even the two fans who firmly stated that they knew the correct word was will, still sang till. Then at Chelsea away, together with a couple of the real Claret Pals, who the book is based on, we listened carefully to what was being sung. There was absolutely no doubt about it - nearly all Burnley fans sing 'till we play.
Well spotted thought, I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned earlier.

The hard 't' probably wins out over the soft 'w' but I think the majority of Clarets know it is 'will".

Hi Doug. You are right, the majority know it is 'will.' The question I asked was what they sang, and people said 'til,' including two older supporters (one of them my best mate) who stressed the bit about knowing the right word is 'will.' Sorry I didn't explain it better.dougcollins wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 8:50 pmMy one and only criticism!

Thanks Foreverly. As usual, sales were good at first,, but they've slowed down a bit now. Local pubs and podcasts have been very supportive, and the club have said they will announce the book in a home programme.

Re: The Claret Pals - a crime thriller
Finally managed to get round to reading The Claret Pals and I must say it was a fantastic read and one that every Burnley fan that enjoys a good book should read.TonbridgeClaret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 10:33 pmMy 5th crime novel, The Claret Pals, is officially published tomorrow, although for some reason Amazon are already selling copies. The idea was given to me by a group of Burnley fans my wife and I often meet up with at away games. They asked me to write a crime thriller built around them, and that's exactly what I've done. I've used several locations in and around Burnley in the book, although most of the action takes place at away fixtures. I made contact with the club several times during the writing process, and I'm happy to say they've sent me email confirmation to say they had no objections to me using the club's name or other references.
The book describes the match day experience for the group, and includes several Burnley songs, which you will all know so well. However, it is not just about football, it's also a fairly gruesome crime thriller, so be warned! I would greatly appreciate any support the Up The Clarets community can provide, so I've posted a link below.
My wife and I have our tickets for Luton, so we'll see some of you there!
I will be doing a book signing at The Royal Dyche on 14th September (before the Leeds away fixture).

Keeps you gripped from start to finish and couldn’t put it down.
Also fantastic advert for Burnley and the surrounding areas too
Great work and one I will reccomend to all my fellow clarets and beyond.
Hope you sell a tonne of them

Bang Bang was my first novel, followed by Sleeping and Trans Mission. However, I had so many requests on Twitter to do a sequel to Bang Bang, that I then wrote Good Riddance. So Bang Bang before Good Riddance is the only order you need to worry about.
Thanks for your interest and I hope you enjoy them!
