Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
Cardiff have offered all Championship clubs a reciprocal ticket deal of £20 for adult away fans. It gives the other clubs an opportunity to recognise and reward their away support while Cardiff fans will benefit each time a club takes up the deal.
A week next Saturday, we are charging them £30 for the match on the Turf so obviously we’ve declined the deal.

Or alternatively, why flush 20 grand down the pan for no reason.
Re: Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
If Cardiff sold 2000 tickets, to agree the £10 reduction would have cost our Club £16,000.

Re: Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
And it works both ways - but Cardiff are prepared to take a hit to benefit their own supporters who travel away. Reciprocal deals are being encouraged until hopefully a cap is agreed similar to the Premier league.

Re: Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
Thats even assuming our refusal to lower prices doesnt mean a lower attendance of away fans. If the away following is reduced by 10% or 20% the extra money the club feel theyre making is even further reduced. Very short sighted in my opinion

Massive well done to Cardiff for at least attempting to make things better for supporters.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 3:46 pmAnd it works both ways - but Cardiff are prepared to take a hit to benefit their own supporters who travel away. As for our club, I’m not surprised we’ve taken the opposite view.

Re: Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
I’m a little surprised as we offered a similar deal in the last championship season although slightly more expensive. maybe our home seat prices prevented us going for it I can imagine 1 or 2 Burnley fans frothing at the mouth if they are paring £50 and Cardiff fans are paying £20 for the same game.

Re: Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
Since we usually take more to away ground than most you would think it would be an attractive proposition to a fan orientated club. Cardiff in particular probably won't bring a massive amount. Seems unusual that we'd decline, but maybe they are worried about then having to accept similar from other clubs. All depends how the deal was presented to them I would presume. Hard to tell.

Doesn't really surprise me unfortunately.

Re: Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
Because football operates by the laws of supply and demand.?
In times where fans are happy to take part in the mass scramble for so called loyalty points to obtain tickets why on earth would one reduce the price?
I cant think of any other buisness that would work in such a manner.

Loyalty points are for our fans, the £20 reduction would be for their fans. So not sure what point you're trying to make??fatboy47 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 5:01 pmBecause football operates by the laws of supply and demand.?

Re: Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
Think this is pretty pathetic Burnley.
Just shows how far away from a community club we have become and how little disregard we now have for our fans and those of other clubs.
£16k is nothing. If you want to pay for that just get rid of some of the staff at the club who spend al their working week trying to get our supporters to upgrade to our over priced hospitality packages.

It’s only like the Premier League when we were paying £30 to go to grounds like Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal and the home supporters cheapest seats were around £80.JarrowClaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 4:20 pmI’m a little surprised as we offered a similar deal in the last championship season although slightly more expensive. maybe our home seat prices prevented us going for it I can imagine 1 or 2 Burnley fans frothing at the mouth if they are paring £50 and Cardiff fans are paying £20 for the same game.

Re: Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
Yes of course they should if there is a reciprocal agreement in place for our fans in the return fixture.
Cardiff (who aren’t the most popular club by the way) have simply recognised that most away games are a fair distance for their fans to travel and that their ground is a fair distance for opposing fans to travel.
When you look at the cost of travelling to away games a ten pound saving on the match ticket can help reduce costs for loyal supporters.
Perhaps Alan and co view getting another ten to fifteen thousand pounds in the coffers more important than our travelling support to Cardiff saving £10 each? Probably.

Re: Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
Because away fans pay anything from 20 to 150 quid to get to the game before buying a matchday ticket.
Without away fans there isn't much atmosphere in any ground.
It benefits our away fans.
Our offers last time were 25 quid to other clubs. We rejected Readings offer of 20.
Re: Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
A lot of Burnley fans pay that to get to a home game as well, probably more than the 900 or so who would benefit at cardiffQuickenthetempo wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 9:43 amBecause away fans pay anything from 20 to 150 quid to get to the game before buying a matchday ticket.

Re: Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
I really don’t get your argument. Any incentive to reduce ticket prices for away supporters should be welcomed.
We have a decent sized away support so it would benefit our supporters in the pocket.
Clubs who value their supporter base should participate in the reciprocal schemes in my view.

Cardiff being patted on the back for helping their fans but then charge them £2 per ticket booking fee. So they are happy to charge a family of 4 £8 for 1 transaction of pressing a few buttons but want other clubs to help them out.

Re: Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
You really aren’t getting it are you?
That is what happens in the Premier League and has done for years. In one of my earlier posts I mentioned us getting away tickets at London clubs for the £30 cap whilst home supporters were paying a minimum of £80 for a ticket.
It’s nothing to do with fairness, it is to incentivise and reward supporters who travel away to watch their team. I’m all for it, clearly you aren’t.
Re: Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
Reciprocate by charging them £22 a ticket then.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 11:18 amCardiff being patted on the back for helping their fans but then charge them £2 per ticket booking fee. Poor from us to not take the offer up, sums up the boards greed.
We shouldn't be charging so much for home fans either is the bottom line.

Re: Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
Don't ticket sales make up a very small proportion of the annual turnover? If so, why would the board risk alienating fans for the sake of a few quid?

I can understand why the club wouldn't want to charge £20
I can also understand fans who travel away being annoyed
But how many fans do you think the decision will alienate?

Re: Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
I couldn't put any sort of figure on it, but let's use Cardiff as an example.
You would expect them to sell at least 1000 tickets regardless of the price. It's their first away game of the season.
If the prices were capped at £20, I would then expect them to bring more. Would it be considerably more? Who knows, but they would definitely bring more support.
A bit like us really - if away games were capped at £20 a ticket, I would expect us to sell out more often than not - which has not been the case at the further away grounds, historically.
Re: Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
That's still cheaper than equivalent home ticket prices at Burnley though so it looks like a bit of an in-between decision: cheaper tickets but not as cheap as Cardiff were suggesting.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 3:35 pmCardiff have offered all Championship clubs a reciprocal ticket deal of £20 for adult away fans. I guess it comes down to what people think is a fair price. Obviously precedent for £30 given the reciprocal deal in the Premier League but on the other hand this is in the Championship.

Re: Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
They are not reciprocal deals in the Premier League, the league has set a maximum of £30 for away fans. Arsenal were the only club who charged us less last season.aggi wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 2:48 pmThat's still cheaper than equivalent home ticket prices at Burnley though so it looks like a bit of an in-between decision: cheaper tickets but not as cheap as Cardiff were suggesting.

There are no such limits in the Championship but Cardiff have done this to try to benefit their own supporters. Reading did a £20 deal two years ago and Leeds did similar last season.
Re: Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
Who are we expecting to be the most expensive away ticket, Sheff Wednesday?
Re: Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
My memory is not what it used to be but I seem to recall Leeds charging us £40 around 15 years ago?
Can someone confirm I am not having a senior moment? QPR also took the **** also several years ago.

Re: Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
Not sure who QPR are playing first home game but they are charging away fans £38 for most of the seats.
Last time we played Leeds in the Championship they charged us £37. It went up to £42 on the day but we sold out ahead of the game so no one paid the higher price. They admitted some fans in for £20 last season on reciprocal deals but then charged Southampton fans £47 because their club wouldn’t agree a deal. I believe they are charging £30 for away fans at all games this season.
Sheffield Wednesday btw are charging Plymouth £36 this Sunday.
Re: Cardiff’s reciprocal ticket deal
Thanks Tony. So we are likely to be circa £40 at Wednesday as we will probably be category A.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 9:33 pmNot sure who QPR are playing first home game but they are charging away fans £38 for most of the seats.
