I'll bet that was my Dad or Dave (Ted), they travel to a lot.

I won't get involved in all this crap, it's just your usual gobshites on the wind up.

I'll have the craic with Ken, Niall (crustycrouton) and Cronny on match day and one of my best pals is a Burnley fan who posts on here now and again.
Crustycrouton…. that’s a blast from the past.

I'm making a guest appearance Sunday with about 10 mates, so that'll double the usual gate.

Sadly they're "Burnley supporters" so it's their annual game this weekend, so we've decided to meet up

Sorry to interrupt on the local Derby debate.
Just a heads up to a 20/20 Charity game tonight, Bacup has beens v Stacksteads has beens up at Lanehead.
As I say, a Charity game in the memory of Dave Thompson and Peter Usher 2 great Lancashire League lads.
Hopefully the rain keeps away and they get a great turnout, get there if you can.
Thanks, now back to your big game on Sunday👍

Hope it's a success. Great lad was Pete Usher.

Shame that Stacksteads folded this year, they have battled adversity for years to keep their club going.

Surely the big Lancashire league derby is Rawtenstall v Bacup a.k.a the Jackie Barnes derby?

Another defeat for Rawtenstall at home to East Lancs however the game saw another 5 wicket haul for Keith Roscoe which helped him achieve 2000 wickets. An unbelievable achievement.

Even more so when you consider he had a few years pro'ing at Edenfield.

The only pro I ever saw bat at 11 mind.

Tyrone Greenidge at Colne batted at number 11 at least once. One noted occasion in about August, I think it was at Rishton, the players gathered on the balcony and gave him a big cheer when he reached about 6. Someone asked why, and they said they were cheering his 50. "But he hasn't got 50". "He has - 50 for the season."

Good bowler, though. He took 80-odd wickets in his first season. Apparently he had pneumonia over the winter and wasn't the same man afterwards, and did much worse the next year. He died far too young.

One anomaly - his Worsley Cup batting average was higher than Ben Johnson's, even though Johnson holds the all-time league batting record!

Nothing but admiration for him. Incredible that this part of the world has two magnificent cricketers, Kes and Jimmy Anderson. Different levels of cricket, I know but no recognition( up to now) of their wonderful careers from the towns they are associated with.

I was at Burnley when Tyrone Greenidge played when Brett Matthews was the Burnley pro. Greenidge batted number 10 for Colne that day and Matthews at number 9 for Burnley. Neither, based on batting ability, was too low in the order either alhough, on that occasion Greenidge scored 19 and Matthews 39 and neither of them were out. Eighteen wickets fell and the two pros got a total of three of them.

Ridiculously late finish too, based on the fact that Greenidge was taking so damn long to bowl each over.

It's so unfair on such a good player that the one stand out moment for me when I've seen him play was back in the 1980s at Burnley. He came on to bowl the last over of the game at the football ground end with Burnley needing 18 to win and Terry Townend on strike. It was August by then and Townend hadn't scored a run all season. He promptly hit the first ball straight for six, the next another six into the pavilion before the third ball sailed over the pavilion and gave Burnley a win with three balls to spare.

I suspect that as the game has got slower and slower, he wouldn't stand out as being particularly slow nowadays.

Back in the fifties, there was a game at Burnley (time cricket then, of course) when Colne looked like winning (!) and Burnley were wasting time. Their time wasting was so obvious that (according to the Colne Times) they were booed off the field by their own supporters. They had bowled only 6 overs in the last half hour, but as they were 8-ball overs those days, that's the equivalent of 16 6-ball overs per hour.

So then, 16 overs per hour was so slow as to be worth booing. Now it's considered a target to aim for. If they went back to say 20 overs per hour, then games would take 5 hours + the tea interval and be over by 6.30.

(Colne and Great Harwood yesterday finished at 8 pm because both sides were taking far too long over field placement and changing at the end of each over. I would be surprised if Colne, at least, don't lose a point for slow bowling, but time spent on drinks break and lost balls might - at a pinch - keep them safe. But still, another win for the mighty Colne!)

I remember that game. Colne had an amateur bowler called Jim Stead who took 7 or 8 wickets for spit. He didn't do much else for Colne but had a good Ribblesdale League career with Barnoldswick.

I'd say an even more remarkable achievement considering what ground he played most of his cricket on. Bacup Road is about as anti spin friendly as you can get, short square boundaries and usually a good batting track..

Another not well known fact about Kez is that he's totally red/green colour blind. Not a great combination for a cricketer I'd say but certainly explained his batting and constantly running the wrong way whilst he was in the field 🤣.

Unlike modern spinners too, he only has two deliveries, an authodox ball that spins away from a right handed batsmen, and an arm ball, but boy could he bowl them well and he's made some world class batsmen look foolish over the years..

Totally agree with your final paragraph. Constant tinkering with the field between balls became a real irritation yesterday and as you said, the game dragged on and on. Tbf, several lost balls hit clean out the ground didn't help with players spending too much time searching for them. Still, a really good game which I couldn't see Colne winning at tea time so fair play to them. (The "sponsors" certainly drank their money's worth though!!! Crikey! 😉)

Looks like lots of clubs in local cricket won't be playing with a professional again this Saturday. The 10th and 24th have proved very difficult with all leagues playing and so many clubs needing one.

My club Padiham have confirmed they're not playing with one.
If Darwen don't for the two fixtures, it puts Burnley as favourites for the title I think.

Clubs are that desperate, they pay huge amounts for average cricketers.
