We should be top two quite comfortably this season watching this
Re: TONIGHTS FOOTY
3-1 Szmodics
Re: TONIGHTS FOOTY
They need wins where they can get them so let em have one
They are playing a league 1 standard side

Re: TONIGHTS FOOTY
This is too easy for Rovers, not what we wanted.
Re: TONIGHTS FOOTY
Not sure how watching two likely bottom half-relegation teams has any relevance to us finishing top 2 let alone comfortably. Sheff Utd looked pretty good tonight with a strong looking 11, and we play a Luton team that finished above us last season.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 9:35 pmWe should be top two quite comfortably this season watching this

Re: TONIGHTS FOOTY
I’m watching both games.
Quality is crap. Three out of four of the teams on display can barely put together 5 passes.
Sheffield look ok, but I would argue a lot of that is because of how bad Preston are.
All the relegated sides will be right up there this season

Come on Riley,
Just a smidge of realism.
We have by far the most expensive squad in the league and have spent by far the most this window.
We have just watched four teams in this league play and they are shocking.
We should be aiming for top two without a doubt and we should comfortably achieve it
Re: TONIGHTS FOOTY
Don't think anyone can make any predictions from the opening games but you can say the defending from both sides has been fkin garbage
Re: TONIGHTS FOOTY
Derby beat Stanley 4-0 and 3-0 the last two times they played them.ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 9:47 pmChrist, they're playing Derby, who'd struggle against Accy Stanley.
They'll start sinking soon enough, stop worrying.

Re: TONIGHTS FOOTY
Derby have been really naive at the back. Typical of a team moving to a higher level and not being properly prepared. They look dangerous on set pieces and that is it although they did have Blackburn penned in for a large part of the start of the second half.
Blackburn have been shaky at the back and a better team will overrun them in midfield. Both teams will be down there this season but I'd be more worried if I was a Derby fan on this showing. A reality check.

Re: TONIGHTS FOOTY
How can you claim we should be top two quite comfortably based on the four teams you’ve watched tonight? Also, how can you claim Blackburn are shocking based on tonight’s performance?Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 9:49 pmCome on Riley,

Of course we should be aiming for top two but saying we should comfortably achieve it is dumb. Luton were stronger than us last season and have the stability of retaining their manager. Leeds were very strong last season and will no doubt kick on. Sheffield United have strengthened and started the season with an away win. Then there are a number of other teams who will also challenge.
Having an expensive bunch of players does not necessarily equate to being a good team as we found out last season.

Re: TONIGHTS FOOTY
Means nothing
Did you watch our last championship outing? First 10 games were irrelevent
Both sides there are bang average
Rovers let 2 in at home against a newly promoted side of league 1 standard. could have been 3 or 4 they let in too (Line clearance and hit bar)
Smodics is on his way - nobody to replace his goals from last season
Re: TONIGHTS FOOTY
You think we’ll score more than four at Luton? I hope you’re right!
But to say that other teams in the same league won’t affect us is somewhat naive.

Re: TONIGHTS FOOTY
Already got a copy of league table from my Rovers supporting son in law
Re: TONIGHTS FOOTY
Watched Ayr United pull Airdrie to pieces. Finished 5-0.
Some good performances from the honest men, but it's too early in the season to work out whether Airdrie are just this years Brechin.
At half time, we got to the part where we get to see the Airdrie chances, but having announced that we'd reached that stage, we were then reminded that there were absolutely none, so we'd have to see a few more from Ayr.....
A delight to see no Rolling around, no diving, no var.

For pity’s sake read the thread, I’m responding to a statement saying that other teams in this league won’t impact us.Robbie_painter wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 10:06 pmWhere have I said that we’ll score more than four at Luton???
If we don’t beat Luton by more than four then one of those other teams will be above us in the league come Monday night.
To me that is impacting us.
I get that the inference is that by the end of the season today’s result won’t matter, Let’s hope so.

Blackburns best football came in the first half without szmodics despite only scoring 1. I'm not sure where you are getting the idea from blackburn have been poor over the 90 they played well even taking into account derby could have played better.AGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 10:27 pmTake Szmodics out of the team and its a 2-2 draw against a league one level team Blackburn have been POOR

With all the singing and dancing at full time I think they thought they’d won a gold medal or something. Embarrassing celebrating a win in the first game of the season like they’d won the league. Absolutely tin pot as usual.

A bit like when we conceded 2 at home to a newly promoted Rotherham 3-2 and won with 2 injury time goals after they had a man sent off. Some weird takes tonight.

Szmodics would have doubled fosters tally by may even in a bang average rovers team. So Danny Ings like just a pity 29 years old.

Re: TONIGHTS FOOTY
I watched the Preston - Sheff U game. Preston were very ordinary, no spark at all with only Brady and Potts looking anything decent. Sheff U were much better. In the first half O'Hare was very lively but hardly saw him in the second half. Hamer looked good as did Arblaster. Ahmedhodžić doesn't seem to have made any progress at all, looking good at times and at others vulnerable. Moore was lively in the second half but needs to settle into the team. However Sheff Utd only won because of a wicked deflection and an atrocious throw out from Preston's goalkeeper which Hamer anticipated well and superbly lobbed the keeper. Other then that they didn't really look like scoring. If I was a Sheff Utd fan I'd pleased with that start.
Incidentally, I'm using a Virgin Media 360 box to watch Sky Sports+. What I found was that the Preston games was being shown on Sky Sports+ channel without having to use the red button. In this way I could pause, rewind etc. as normal. However if I watched it on the red button I couldn't do this. I don't know if that is peculiar to Virgin or of that limitation occurs on Sky too?
