I went to Haydock once. A festering hive of Scouse and Manc chavs.
Truly awful.
The sport of kings though, apparently.

Re: Haydock
The winter jumps meets can be good but the summer meetings , especially if there’s “ entertainment “ on after the racing can be as you’ve described , not unlike a day in BlackpoolTheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 10:00 amI went to Haydock once. A festering hive of Scouse and Manc chavs.

Re: Haydock
To be fair that’s how most racecourses have ended up during the summer months in particular.TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 10:00 amI went to Haydock once. A festering hive of Scouse and Manc chavs.

The last time I went to Chester races we were walking through the centre and saw crowds of people carrying boxes of beer, wine and spirits after coming out of Tescos. They were all heading towards the racecourse and we realised that they were allowing people to bring in their alcohol and pay a small entry fee to get in.
Not surprisingly it was absolute carnage - fighting, collapsing, ambulances, police arrests….the lot. None of them were in the least bit interested in the racing or putting on a bet. I never understood what was in it for the racecourse - a few quid entry fee, no alcohol sales and a massive clear up operation.
Sad thing is that even at fantastic courses like York with some of the best flat horses in the world on show during the summer months it’s stag do and hen party city.
Best to avoid at the weekends and maybe go to a mid week race day. Or wait till the winter months.
Re: Haydock
I don't go to Haydock after my first two experiences. The first time they were 6 or 7 horse races and the last was a 2 horse race. The second time, something serious had happened the night before and half of the horses didn't turn up. At least I went home with my money
.
