Me neither. But then I never thought WW would go there either.

We all (?) want Berge do stay but if we get offered proper money, he'll go.

I really hope Dara O'Shea stays because I think he'll be a true leader.

I’ve always rated Egan, I don’t see him as a massive downgrade from O’Shea excepting for the fact he’s 32 in October. If we can bank £20m+ for O’Shea and get him on a free (assuming he’s fully fit) then I don’t think that’s terrible news.

Just don’t think we need him, plenty of players in the squad should be able to step up if we lose O’Shea

In terms of Egan, we might have players with similar ability in the squad already but his experience could prove invaluable. We lacked experience last season and since then we’ve lost two of the more experienced players. We need leaders.

Tbf the players that are going for big money are players that have had great seasons.

The difference is some of our fans think players with crap seasons will still go for big money
Dwight went for good money and he was getting slaughtered by some on here

Good or bad season, fans are short sighted at times

Would agree but all injured I think (Ekdal, Al-Dakhil and Beyer).

Linked with John Egan who is on a free after leaving Sheffield United - Nixon
Egan has been in training for the last two days but a deal for him looks unlikely.

O’shea to Brentford - looking like there’s a good chance this gets done although he will likely play for us on Monday unless the deal accelerates over the weekend. Possible replacement is someone we’ve been linked with many times before

Not sure why Nat Phillips wouldn't be good enough from what I have seen and heard he would be the prefect replacement for O'Shea.

Added to that Parker has worked with him before and knows his strengths.

Obviously I could be wrong and blinded by highlight videos that make him look like a world beater and a great sales pitch by Liverpool fans.

Not a criticism just interested to know what you base your assessment of Philips ability or rather lack of it on?

In which case, I would assume the reason signing is unlikely is because he wouldn't be able to pass a medical?

If we really intend to accept an offer for o'Shea then that's fine.
We got promoted without him last time.

It's difficult (and I know he's injured), but Kompany's insistence that Al-Dakhil play out of position in a team that didn't know what it was doing defensively has made him seem like a bad player.
He's 24, has four full caps for Belgium and he looked great in the Championship.
The sh1t show last year has damaged the young players and their reputations (see Trafford etc.), I'm not sure it was their fault.

His career just hasn’t seemed to go anywhere. Had an awful stint at Celtic last season, their fans thought he was shocking, spent the second half of the season at Cardiff where, in fairness, he seemed to do well, albeit bottom half of the table. I just think it’s telling no PL has gone in for him yet (even Bournemouth who got promoted) and at £6-8m (supposedly what Liv want) there should be better options. When I’ve seen him he’s never really stood out and never really got the hype, which has since died down. Happy to be wrong (if it is even him) but right now I can’t see how some of our current players like Al-Dakhil, Beyer and Ekdal are worse. Admittedly he’s homegrown so helps with that if O’Shea leaves.

If it is Phillips the issue is he’s 27 and only played 125 games in his career, there’s a reason he’s not made the next step. It could be the fee Liverpool demand

So if it’s a choice between Egan and Philips to replace
O Shea … I’d pick Egan. Only 31 loads experience and leadership.

Egan is no better than anyone we have
Not sure Phillips is either
Would rather we looked at central midfield - looking at the Chelsea squad surely there's someone there who we could maybe loan

I don't know why we need another cb really. Esteve, Beyer, Al Dahkil and Ekdal is more than enough in the championship. We can't expect to being players like Al Dahkil on of he's zero chance of getting a game. Buying young potential only works if they play, otherwise they're just depreciating assets you're paying for nothing.

If we get 20 million for o shea, that's excellent business and 1 squad number/wage less.

Any idea where Delcroix is?

He never gets mentioned. Apparently he is training but there have been no pics of him. He’s another should be comfortable at this level.

If we end up getting £15-20m for O’Shea and Egan comes in on a free to replace him I’ll be on with that. O’Shea is very replaceable and Egan is the right sort - a leader/captain. As long as he’s over his injury issues…

I'd be happy with Egan.

As others have already pointed out; we have plenty of cover at CB (unless others are leaving which we aren't yet aware of). The loss of Berge worries me more. Height or power is needed from positions other than just 2xCB.

I would rather keep McNally and sign Egan on a free if we are to sell O’Shea and Delcroix rather than spending money on Nat Phillips or Joe worrall if those are the 2 we are linked with

The CB cover are all injured / injury prone / not good enough.

Tressor was VKs vanity project and his chasing Tressor despite Mike being reluctant to come bizarre. When Tressor played he was awful no tackle, no passing ability and a total cba demeanour. We needed steel in midfield not putty
Was he reluctant to come? I personally have seen nothing to support that theory other than how long the transfer took maybe I missed that not sure. Look things didn’t go well for him last season that is clear, I think there are a number of factors for that some of which we are not aware of and all built up in him which affected his football. also I agree defensively he is not good and needs to improve hugely there. I have no issue with you disagreeing with me about him football is a game of opinions and we all have 1, but I saw glimpses of what could be a fantastic footballer in this division and in the prem in the future if he is used correctly.

I think reading between the lines of what Parker had to say about him yesterday it strikes me as another MH issue and he will be missing for a while anyway.

Is McNally being incorrectly overlooked? 2 decent seasons in the championship on loan - still only 24, not sure there would be any great benefit to pay for Nat Phillips and bigger wages over just keeping him

Egan has been good and is a leader in the dressing room but it was a very serious injury last season and he turns 32 next month

When you've got Beyer, Al-Dakhil, Ekdal at various stages of their recovery journeys along with Delcroix and Esteve even if O'Shea leaves maybe he is the better bet to cover (and even Egan-Riley for now)

Brownhill could easily be the difference between being promoted or not.

25m for Berge
20m for O’Shea
20m for Trafford
5m for weghorst
4m for twine
1m for mcnally
500k for Delcroix
1m for obafemi

That should help finances and be able to invest in another keeper and centre midfielder whilst bringing an Egan type in

If this Conway / Twine swop is legit we should be pulling out all the stops to get it done.

If both Berge and Brownhill go without experienced/quality replacements, then it's a gamechanger for me, as it could well indicate how much we have a financial problem (caused by the likely ridiculous overspending last year).

Have you seen Conway play? Is he good?

If we brought in a Riley as well as Egan do you think we could con the ref into playing twelve players by putting Egan-Riley on the team sheet?

Any idea where Delcroix is?

He never gets mentioned. Apparently he is training but there have been no pics of him. He’s another should be comfortable at this level.

If we end up getting £15-20m for O’Shea and Egan comes in on a free to replace him I’ll be on with that. O’Shea is very replaceable and Egan is the right sort - a leader/captain. As long as he’s over his injury issues…

He was married last week in Sri Lanka.
