You barely need to aim to get it past Will Norris.

How did they get 9 minutes of injury time out of 5 minutes.

Champions elect steal a point and so nearly stole 3. DA even more apologetic
Re: Today's football 10/08/24
Understandable Leeds taking their foot off the gas given that they’ve already won the league.

It's not looking good for us, we are already 13th. So much for automatic promotion.

Re: Today's football 10/08/24
You can’t make any judgments after one game but even Leeds looked today like a side we’d have finished above last season. The disparity in quality between the leagues is noticeable immediately.
Unfortunately for us, that doesn’t apply to Luton for our first game as they have barely changed bar Barkley. That’s about as hard as this season will get I think. Really good test and opportunity to set a marker.

Must admit i'm looking forward to this season now. Great to be back in a competitive league where anything can happen.

Yes, me too.
If we can just hang on to most of those rumoured to be
moving on to pastures new, id be really confident, particularly after witnessing the (mostly) dross so far.

Re: Today's football 10/08/24
I watched the Middlesbrough - Swansea match. Swansea were neat and tidy but pretty toothless and although Middlesbrough had some defending to do in the second half their goalkeeper wasn't really troubled. Eom looks a useful player. Middlesbrough seemed to have more energy and more threat but that didn't really materialise. It's the first time I've seen Lathe Lath and he's a bundle of energy but didn't look very sharp. Our old boy Vigouroux was pretty comfortable in the Swansea goal but only had to make a couple of decent saves. Very left footed but mostly passed out well. Score just about right.
Re: Today's football 10/08/24
Been some fair treks for away fans today, especially given the early kickoffs. Swansea at Boro, Pompey at Leeds and Sunderland at Cardiff. Still wouldn't be surprised if Pompey and Sunderland sold out.
Re: Today's football 10/08/24
Portsmouth sold out and took 2,900 to Leeds and Sunderland took a very good following to Cardiff

I'd class is at the same strength as 2 seasons ago + Leeds. So it'll be more difficult but we have a better squad.AGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 5:28 pmNothing to fear at all in this league. Bang average we'll be okay

We may seem to have a better squad but I’m not yet convinced we will have a better team. The first 5 or 6 games will give us much clearer picture.

Re: Today's football 10/08/24
So far, across 3 divisions the ante post favourites have either lost or drawn on the opening weekend. Leeds in the Championship, M K Dons and Chesterfield in League 2 and Barnet in the National League. The shortest priced favourite across the entire EFL, Birmingham, currently being held 0-0 at home by Reading.
The transfer window hasn’t closed yet and some of the owners of these clubs have very deep pockets.

Not really a job for a rookie manager in Chris Davies who won’t last long if the owners feel that an immediate return to the Championship starts looking in jeopardy.jedi_master wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 6:14 pmThey've looked exactly what they are really - a bunch of mercenaries cobbled together. Re: Today's football 10/08/24
Will Norris in goal for Portsmouth at DL? Many Clarets fans wrote him off but he’s now playing at our level.
Talking of playing at our level (or nearly) Stockport County now only 17 places below us on the English football pyramid. If we’re not careful our biggest football rivals in the north west will be playing us once again. Only seems a short time since we were established in Prem league and they were non league club. How did that happen?

Playing in the same division, but I thought he was very poor today. He didn't look to the level we'd want here.beeholeclaret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 6:41 pmWill Norris in goal for Portsmouth at DL? Many Clarets fans wrote him off but he’s now playing at our level.

Are players now allowed to pass back to the keeper? Just seen the most blatant back pass to the Reading keeper which went unpunished.

I saw Clitheroe beat Chasetown 4-1 at home today, coming from behind to win with ease in the end, and a couple of lovely goals.

Re: Today's football 10/08/24
Didn’t think Norris looked that great today. Not been impressed by Derby and Portsmouth. They looked slow and ponderous in defence and deep midfield. The contrast between these sides and the sides we payed at the beginning of last season is stark.

I've watched a lot of Championship football over the weekend the standard is abysmal if we don't get a 100 points this season I'll be very disappointed

I'm not going to go for a points prediction, but most of our second 11 would make other team's starting 11.Muric Leggings wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 4:22 pmI've watched a lot of Championship football over the weekend the standard is abysmal if we don't get a 100 points this season I'll be very disappointed
Our second 11 is good enough to make the playoffs.

Re: Today's football 10/08/24
I'll see how we setup first before making predictions, but I must admit the majority of games I've seen this weekend, have been of a poor standard.
We need to eradicate the soft underbelly we saw last season, to allow our attacking talent to flourish. One of the places it will get severely tested is at Luton tomorrow.

On paper, probably the most difficult game of the season.
A good game to start with.
