Trafford - 7 - relatively little to do but other than one slightly shaky moment but stood up well to the intermittent bombardment overall.

Roberts - 7 - thought he got caught by Chong for the goal, but a glorious ball for Odobert's goal and used his experience to good effect.

Pires- 7 - caught out understandably by the pace snd physicality of the Championship a couple of times, but looks an elegant prompter from left back who isn't afraid to get stuck in. Two assists on a very promising debut.

O'Shea - 9 - if we keep him he'll boss the league. Great header for his goal.

Esteve - 9 - if we keep him we'll boss the game.

Cullen - 8 - back in the Championship and a cut above. Had to work to establish his superiority first half but grew into the game.

Brownhill- 9 - full of intelligent running and a masterclass in doing the basics. Set the tone with the goal.

Odobert - 8 - showed why he's a sought after player. Lovely finish full of pace and linked the game nicely.

Koleosho- 8 - direct running got us up the pitch.

Vitinho - 8 -did an excellent job neutralising Doughty down their left and carried a threat topped with a great finish.

Foster - 8 - not always able to hold the ball against Menghi but produced a self less performance working hard to create space for others , and his length of the field assist for Vitinho's goal, having chased back his own loose touch, summed up what he's about.

Zaroury- 7 - some nice touches.

Overall, this was the ideal opening night. 4 excellent goals, a real examination at times defensively passed with such flying colours you barely noticed it was an examination at all, and a clear tactical template executed diligently by players who have evidently bought into what Parker has asked for them. Tactically, Parker couldn't have asked for a better start to hos tenure. There is a long way to go but this is a promising start.

Trafford 7 fine apart from one scary incident
Roberts 7
O’Shea 8
Esteve 8 both central defenders absolutely dominant
Pires 9 2 assists a few shaky moments defensively but his passing was spot on
Vitinho 9 thought he was excellent tonight
Cullen 6
Brownhill 7
Odobert 8 too good for this level
Koleosho 7
Foster 5 would’ve been a 4 but for the assist, largely anonymous and didn’t make the ball stick enough

Trafford 7 - apart from 1 missed catch he did what he needed to
Roberts 7 - solid, experience, brilliant assist
O’Shea 9* - dominant and attacked that corner so well
Esteve 9 - he won’t get beat in a 1 v 1 duel all season MUST KEEP
Pires 8 - two assists, will grow into the new intensity I’m sure
Cullen 8 - back at it
Brownhill 9 - he was everywhere, excellent movement and finish for the goal
Vitinho 8 - tenacious, skilful and with an end product!
Odobert 8 - really hope we get to watch this lad glide round all season
Koleosho 7 - energetic, pressed really well
Foster 8 - even if it doesn’t come off he’s working and working and that assist is seriously special

Brilliant night. Absolutely buzzing with that. Smiles all round and Parker nailed his tactics.

Trafford 7 - Early days, but looks better than last season. He did everything right in the first half. Shouted a lot, came off the line a few times, punched the ball. Looked more nervous when they were on top in the second half, but still, a decent performance. Needs to work on his kicking, though.

Pires 9
MOTM - What a debut!

Esteve 8 -
Looked really composed, especially in the first half where he won everything against their strikers

O'Shea 8.5 - Pretty much the same as Esteve, but gets extra points for scoring.

Roberts 7
- Brilliant assist but I'm not sure what happened before their goal. He looked so out of position.

Brownhill 8
- I think it's fair to say we can file him in the bracket as the likes od Pukki and Dwight Gayle. Maybe they are not PL quality, but are far too good for this division.

Cullen 7
- Did well.

Koleosho 7 - Unlucky not to get a goal involvement because he was really electric. Full of energy, worked really hard. I just hope we'll manage his minutes carefully.

Odobert 8 - Very composed for his goal. I still think he should play out wide, but he looked scary at times when running through the middle. Just needs to be more careful when he receives the ball in dangerous areas. Was mugged twice near the middle.

Vitinho 8
- I think he's more comfortable out wide than as a full-back. Great finish for our fourth.

Foster 7
- He was probably "the worst" Burnley player tonight, which doesn't mean he was bad. I think he struggled a bit against their defenders, but I'm glad he has shown how dangerous he is. That run is something straight of FIFA games.

Subs - 6

Parker 9
- Brilliant tactically. I know it's early, but he has shown a lot of versatility.

Trafford 7 - only really one hiccup at the beginning of second half but some good punches on set pieces and some good passing.
Roberts 7 - quietly solid and a fantastic assist too. Glad to see him back.
O'Shea 9 - Adebayo is a cracking CF at this level and Dara had him his pocket all night. Great goal and could have had another bar a great save from the ex-barsteward
Esteve 9 - equally as good if not better defensively than O’Shea tonight. Really hope we can keep hold of them both.
Pires 8 - needs to change his boots but a fantastic debut. Good delivery on set pieces is something we’re not used to…
Brownhill 9 - captain fantastic tonight. The composure for the finish is fantastic and think he’s overall play was brilliant.
Cullen 8 - as you’d expect from Mr Consistent. Ticked us over all night and interesting the way he was utilised tonight.
Vitinho 9 - MOM - Parker got it spot on playing him on the right tonight. Supported Roberts in pocketing Doughty for the majority of the night and then gave him nightmares going forwards. Think a season of being torn to shreds in the PL will make him a star this year.
Koleosho 7 - forgot how fast he was. Threatened in the first half and then faded before being subbed. Can’t wait to see more from him this season.
Odobert 7 - might be a bit harsh but he gave the ball away a few times through dallying. Think he’ll grow into the league though and undoubtedly has the talent to be a big player for us this year.
Foster 8 - +1 for the assist (absolutely unreal) but I think some of the posters on the match thread missed how much he was doing off the ball. Constantly found space, pressed well and gave Mengi a really good game. If he plays like he did tonight and our other attackers find him more he’ll easily score 20 in this league.

Zaroury 6 - don’t feel like he was hugely involved once he came on but it was great to hear and feel the love for him. If he can rediscover that first half of 22/23 form, we’ve got the best attacking options this league has ever seen.

Beyond wildest dreams tonight. Parker got it absolutely spot on and we’ve comfortably beat fellow pre season favourites in arguably the hardest ground to play at in the league. It’s scary to think what we could potentially achieve in the league with more time on the training ground. The whole performance oozed professionalism, maturity, attacking threat and defensive resiliency - not a single one of those phrases would I have used last year!

UTC!

Very impressive team performance which gives lots of grounds for optimism. Must be a really good for the players to enjoy that winning feeling again. A (slight) note of caution in that although they are undoubtedly a decent team Luton were a little under strength so possibly turned out to be a good time to play them. For example arguably the first two goals over the top came from errors by Luton’s two teenage debutants. Still extremely pleasing how we went about things though.

From the TV. Early days - super performance. Parker got it spot on: quicker, sharper, more pragmatic, played it long to beat the press. I'll find something to moan about but it'll be a bit of an effort after that...!

Trafford 7 - anyone can have a shaky moment but that was a 'Trafford shaky moment' otherwise fine
Roberts 8 - Solid
O’Shea 9 - Solid plus a goal
Estève 8 - Solid without the goal
Pires 7 - Hmm 8 going forward 6 defending meets in the middle
Cullen 8 - Solid
Brownhill 8 - Solid
Vitinho 8 - Solid
Odobert 8 - Playing through the centre is a big role for a young player used to playing on the wing. Like last season he really has promise in this role but along with Foster the ball sometimes struggled to stick and we relied on pace.
Koleosho 8 - Works so hard
Foster 7 - Not sure he is the kind of forward that likes to lead the line. Played well for all that...!

Trafford 7 - decent overall. Was a bit concerned at the start of the second half, but we didn’t let them rain many balls in

Roberts 7 - solid, lovely ball for Odobert goal

O’Shea 8 - dominant, great header for goal

Estève 8 - accomplished

Pires 7 - tidy, cultured and looking forward to seeing a lot more of him. Lovely ball for Brownhill goal.

Cullen 8 - makes this level look easy

Brownhill 8 - Darren Huckerby, Robbie Blake etc etc. Great at this level, took his goal really well. Ran all day as usual.

Vitinho 8 - important to the tactical set up first half giving Roberts added protection. Aggressive throughout and a goal to cap off a lively performance

Odobert 9 - love seeing him down the middle. He showed glimpses of what he can do down the middle at Everton (a). A real talent on our hands. Showed his pace for the goal and a composed finish

Koleosho 8 - he’ll tear some teams apart this season

Foster 7 - a bit rusty in terms of hold play but what a powerful run for the Vitinho goal - let’s hope he opens his account early on this season and kicks on

Zaroury 7 - did what was required

Currently on my way back from Luton, they all get a 9 from me. Want an away performance that was. Solid at back, clinical on the break. Worked their socks off, that more like the Burnley we love

Trafford 7 - not much to do, a bit wobbly under air assault but did enough
Roberts 8 - great ball for the goal and kept Doughty quiet
O’Shea 9 - super solid and a threat at the other end, gets off the ground so well, suspect he will be off for £20m to Brentford and to be fair we can afford to lose him but it would weaken us
Estève 9 - also super, will grow with a year at this level and will be a France international soon. Loved his shielding of the ball.
Pires 8 - two assists on debut, a slightly wobbly first touch but great desire and battle.
Cullen 7 - quiet but kept us ticking, Luton flood that area so a tough game
Brownhill 8 - again hard to shine with Luton tactics, the space is elsewhere, but great move and finish set us up for the win
Vitinho 8 - some lovely touches and I maintain he is a better right winger than left back
Odobert 9 - too hot to handle, will get 20 in that role. A year in this proving ground could make him a top player, toughen him up.
Koleosho 8 - desire, speed and directness
Foster 8 - ploughed a lone furrow but battled on and got his reward with the assist that was all him

Zaroury 7 - some lovely footwork we have missed

Non scoring subs Weggy, Massengo etc - did very well, perfect for this role and meant we saw the game out easily.

This was what I hoped and expected but maybe not the margin. I feared a slow clicking and maybe a draw at worst. But we are miles better than every other side, the bookies odds (post game) of 5-1 to win the league seems like easy money on an each way. Things can go wrong of course, and will, but this side is miles better than the 2022 version, it is too hot to handle whilst better in defence. More pragmatic while still dynamic and attacking. More entertaining, faster in transition, exciting for fans.

There will be problems - too big a squad, teams sitting back. But as long as we get through August while keeping Luca, Maxime and Wilson I feel we will be fine. Berge, Trafford, Weghorst and O’Shea I would love to keep but assume we need to raise £50m+ so in truth we can probably launch HMS pi$$ the league without them.

Other players like Amdouni I like too, but cannot see where they fit in, and at this level the only hope of keeping them is if they play.

Great start to the season. Perfect result, but still looked as though we had areas we could improve.
Hats off to the manager, for his tactics, his lifting the players, his inclusion of Traffand Wout, and his bearing infront of the cameras. Looks the real deal, and he wouldn't have been my choice, but always had my 100% support.

I would just like to record for posterity…. The use of “An Elegant Prompter” by Spice.

He wins the Garth Crooks award for flowery writing for this season already. Chapeau squire.

Watched in a bar in Magaluf. Maybe it's the beer talking but that was more impressive than Kompany's first game in charge (ironically another game I watched on holiday!). We were head and shoulders above Luton, and we've more to come. It's taken one game to see what a little pragmatism could have done with this team last season.

Trafford 7 - one shaky moment
Roberts 8 - like getting the old band back together!
Esteve 8 - a breeze
O’Shea 9 - a breeze, plus a goal
Pires 8 - looks like we might have a steal on our hands
Vitinho 8 - at fault for their goal but other than that he looked quality
Cullen 8 - back to the Josh of two years ago
Brownhill 8 - back to the Josh of two years ago
Odobert 8 - this lad will have too much for this league
Koleosho 7 - looked rusty but my word he has pace to burn
Foster 6 - poor for 80 minutes, then the assist of the season!

Just like last time we were here, we're the best team in this league by a mile, even without our best midfielder. Let's hope we don't have too many departures before the window shuts.

As much as Hudderfield was a surprise two years ago, this was as expected but with a swagger. A few things to work on but this is as good a start as we could hope for.

Trafford - 7 one shaky moment when they hit the bar but otherwise fine. He'll get better the more he plays at this level.

Roberts - 7 sound in this division, lost his man a bit for the goal though

O'Shea - 9 great header for the goal but him and Esteve bossed the the game tonight. Best pairing in the league.

Pires - 7 obvs still adjusting to english togger but 2 assists will do nicely - the first was a peach

Cullen - 9 standard championship runnin' ting. His booking was a joke.

Brownhill - 9 mad how many people write him off. Great run and finsih for the opener and he keeps our tempo on point.

Odobert - 8 we'll do very well to hold on to him

Koleosho - 6 lots of direct running but his end product is still lacking. It'll come, he's young and had a long lay off.

Vitinho - 8 played to his instructions perfectly, scored a fine clincher and could have had a couple more.

Foster - 8 selfless performance that showed exactly what a team player he is. His defensive work and then pitch-length run to set up the 4th summed him up. Will be massive for us this season.

Zaroury - 6 a few touches but nothing major

Keep this team together and we should romp this league. Cracking start.

Trafford -7 punched well against the expected air assault

Roberts - 7 delightful ball for the 2nd. Maybe could have done a bit better for theirs but good to see him back
O’Shea -8 - excellent at both ends
Esteve - 7
Pires - 7 - really good debut marked with an outstanding assist

Cullen -8
Brownhill -8

Koleosho - 7 - if we can keep him fit he will rip up this division
Odobert - 7 - great composure for a cool finish
Vitinho -9 - when he’s not at fullback he can be outstanding. Great goal. Almost two. There’s loads of competition for his spot but it’s his spot.

Foster - 7 - was a little deep but worked hard exemplified by the superb 4th.

Zaroury - 7

About as good as we could have hoped against a team well fancied to bounce back.

We have sent a message to the division already.

Trafford 6 - not much ro do really - couple of hairy moments, couple more solid
Roberts 8 - solid and a great assist
O'Shea 9 - goal against the only blemish in a terrific performance
Esteve 8 - as O Shea
Pires 7 - looks great going forward, will be great at this level
Vithino 8 - has improved so.much since that first season
Cullen 8 - metronome in the middle and played well
Brownhill 9 - busy, aggressive and a great run and finish.
Koleosho 8 - energy and guile, caused problems
Odobert 9 - caused them no end of problems - super goal
Foster 8 - worked hard. A bit light sometimes with back to goal but terrific run and assist for the 4th

Zaroury 7 - held the ball and gave them something else to think about.

Other subs all did well hit not on long enough.

A very impressive performance against a rough side at an even tougher place to visit - not many sides will go to Kenilworth and take the points comfortably.

This was far more impressive than that opener against Huddersfield.

I liked how aggressive we were and looked to quickly move the ball forward to putvthem on the back foot. It's inky 1 game but I think this augers well.

Trafford 7 - really pleased he's back this season and he stood up well on the whole to Luton's aerial threat, the one error apart.

Roberts 8 - again, really pleased he's back in the team. I thought Parker got it tactically spot on with him dropping into the right side of a back three when out of possession stop Chong's runs into that channel. And what an assist for our second goal.

O'Shea 9 - a colossus for us and he showed again what a threat he is in the opposition box. I'd absolutely love to keep him.

Esteve 9 - another colossus who is too good for the Championship.

Pires 7 - some sloppiness in defensive moments and on the ball, but overall a really pleasing debut with 2 assists and lots of promise.

Vitinho 8 - an excellent performance and a well taken goal.

Cullen 8 - this league is a stroll for him

Brownhill 8 - a captain's performance tonight and was non-stop the whole game. A fantastic first finish to set us up.

Odobert 8 - full credit goes to him and to Parker for his work rate tonight that was all too often lacking last season. If he can match that with his Premier League quality, which was on full display as well tonight, he'll be the league's stand-out player.

Foster 7 - a tireless effort of sacrifice trying to occupy their backline and create space. What an assist.

Koleosho 7 - tireless effort and energy, but like last season needs to keep working to find some end product

Zaroury 6 - not really on long enough but contributed to locking the game down

I'm absolutely over the moon with that. For the first time in a long while, our manager produced an outstanding tactical plan and got his players to execute it almost perfectly. So, so refreshing to see "principles" and "ideology" done away with in favour of adaptability and a desire to work hard above all else.

My only concern is that there are still a fair few members of this team that could be sold in the next 3 weeks. If somehow we manage to keep O'Shea, Esteve, and Odobert, I think we'll be in for another fine Championship season. Please Alan and the board, do all you can to make it happen.
