Rutter is Leeds's best player left by a mile.
Many of their fans see him as more important than Sommerville. He is their midfield powerhouse, transition player and creative spark.
Irreplaceable at this level, this is very good news for us.

Bringing in loads of money is obviously good news for them, but what have they got left after Rutter? Bamford? Piroe? James? Looking at Leeds squad it’s actually very poor in comparison to ours. They will clearly have a lot to spend and probably go a bit mad for the rest of the window, but it’s a lot of upheaval. It can’t be anything but good for us IMO.

Good post.Mattster wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 7:01 amThe Rutter fee shows it's worth keeping hold of players like Koleosho, Odobert, Amdouni if we can afford to. They won't lose value after a good season in the Championship. Rutter was poor for Leeds as they were relegated but a very good season in the Championship, no promotion, and he's going for £40m.

Brentford and Brighton throwing their weight around against the small Northern clubs. Just need Bournemouth to come knocking and the hattrick is complete.

We should string Leeds along until the end of the window with Benson, then pull the plug at the last minute.

They could get desperate as the window goes on. If selling clubs see that, plus having cash, they could get their leg lifted.jedi_master wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 9:15 amBringing in loads of money is obviously good news for them, but what have they got left after Rutter? Not sure how this would affect their ability to spend big - it's less than £5mil profit from Rutter.jedi_master wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 9:15 amBringing in loads of money is obviously good news for them, but what have they got left after Rutter? Does it mean they have the profit to spend or the full amount when it comes to balancing books?

Great news about Leeds. With 2 away games to come for Leeds against decent sides followed by Hull at home (who are decent) and then ourselves, it could be a tricky first month that if we really dig in could see us well clear. Even if we don’t manage it we may still be level with them having played the two other favourites away.
The difference between us and Leeds is that if (when) we sell we have others to slot in who are also really good.

I suppose we don't know how hamstrung they are with their finance, but on paper they have brought in £100m from Gray, Summerville and Rutter so you'd expect a good percentage of that is now free for Farke. Half my family are Leeds fans and I know there is also a school of thought that Gnonto will undoubtedly throw his toys out of the pram again this window too and try to force something through if there is interest.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I might be living in the past a little, but don't Leeds still owe a backlog of unpaid transfer fees? (I know all clubs have installments. But I think Leeds are overdue on some).
Sure they'll still have some money to spend on replacements, but they spent a fortune on the players they're currently selling. Can't see them reinvesting in the same calibre of player.
I'm getting carried away but my outlook on this season is looking far brighter than a week ago

I disagree. He's had a very disjointed couple of years, only making a handful of starts. I might be wrong but I don't he has the same 'issues' that Drinkwater had. I think a full season playing week in week out is just what he needs. As a loan I think it's a great deal for Ipswich.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 10:10 amIpswich are 100% guaranteed to get relegated

Ipswich will do better than any of the 3 promoted sides last season. I think they will be ok just. I’m not sure who drops though out of the rest. I’d say Forest but they’ve signed Milenkovic from Fiorentina who is a very good centre back.

Manchester United’s interest in Sander Berge has ‘stalled’ because the Red Devils feel the transfer fee requested by Burnley is ‘unrealistic’.

Very clever from United. Unsettle the player, give him the old "this is what you could have won" routine and the player starts to demand the move forcing our price down.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Phillips is a great signing for Ipswich and the type we must make if we are promoted again. I fancy them to stay up.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Quite a big risk for Ipswich signing Phillips. When he was on loan at West Ham he looked a million miles off it. Directly responsible for at least 2 goals and then dropped to the bench.
If he’s finally got himself fit it might be turn out to be a good signing. Ipswich seem to have a really good manager and if he stays that’s there biggest chance of staying up for me.
Always had a soft spot for Ipswich because of the great side they had when I was a kid. Paul Mariner, Cooper, Burley, Mills, Wark, Muhren, Thijssen, Brazil etc….loved that team !!

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
That is a big IF.
I am trying to look at it in the NOW.
After seeing how he performed for West Ham last season, i personally don't think £10m just for one season is a great deal.
This is just my opinion.

Which is fine, unless the player is now totally peed off with us because he could have been playing PL football on almost double the wages (notwithstanding he'd probably not be starting many games for them).ArmchairDetective wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 12:10 pmGlad to hear it sounds like we're standing firm on transfer negotiations.

Depends if he’s the Kalvin Phillips that tipped up at West Ham last season on loan, or the one that City thought they signed two years ago. It’s a move that could go either way.

It is, but that's the reality of the transfer market.
Yours is also an "If" as you're basing it on "if" he is crap or "if" they don't stay up.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Rutter going for £40m and only because there is a release clause. He is good, but is he any better than Berge? Berge more in the Casemiro mould but I would say a similar standard. A bit younger so add on a few million for that.
If as rumoured we are asking £30m that seems fair, I personally would settle at £25m, but not a penny below. On that note, O’Shea I wouldn’t sell below £20m. Ditto Trafford.
They key is to be firm and consistent with these players - if they want to go make sure the other club pays the asking price. We have so many players we could easily freeze a player out on the bench for 12 months, these lads won’t want that, I doubt they will kick up a fuss.

They cant have it both ways...if they feel he's good enough to be in and around their first team they need to pay a fee that that status entails.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
He’s a funny one is Kalvin Phillips. I’m pretty sure before Bielsa turned up he was well down the pecking order and not really expecting to establish himself. I think the young lad Roman Viera or something similar was hyped the better player. Then Bielsa turned him into an excellent centre midfielder and international. He’s left Leeds and dropped off a cliff.RicardoMontalban wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 12:29 pmDepends if he’s the Kalvin Phillips that tipped up at West Ham last season on loan, or the one that City thought they signed two years ago. People saying it is a good deal for Rutter but didn't Leeds pay £35m for him and will still owe?
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
It's hard to predict how Phillips will do. He really needs it to work out after a difficult time at West Ham otherwise his career could nosedive.

This was all part of Pace’s 5 year plan.
Get promoted, buy players, get relegated and get said players on the cheap, go straight back up and get top 4, win the champions league the following season

United allegedly want £30m from Fulham for McTominay, yet find the same fee 'unreasonable' for Berge - who they presumably intend on replacing McTominay with. If he's not worth that much to THEM, that is fine, he is to US.

The first time ever United have viewed a transfer fee as unrealistic. Usually they will just pay whatever nonsense quote clubs throw at them.
Not that I want Berge to leave, but if he does, then we should pump them for every penny.

You only have to look at how utterly lost Ross Barkley was until he started enjoying his football at Luton, maybe McKenna will have the same affect on Phillips. Some fall for Phillips though, Man City to Ipswich.

My argument is that Man United has pretty much caused the increase by throwing their financial weight around to get players.

Correct about them causing themselves issues. Clubs know they will overpay, so why settle for less.
